The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Game journalism has always been about being the Karen of gaming companys, so it doesnt surprise me
Fixed that for you.
The last ten years have been like a genocide, but for IP's. What I don't get is why they keep handing the reins to people intent on poisoning one multimillion dollar franchise after another. Seriously asking, how does this keep happening? Has the rot set in too deeply?
My best guess is that industry leaders don't know diddly squat about what goes on outside their glass tower office day by day so when they first learn about Anita Sarkeesian or any other troon/feminazi trends, they instantly think that it's caught on for a reason and want on that gravy train before it leaves the station, and they don't realize what a bad idea it is until they're already nose diving off the cliff.

Actually it's even easier; bigwigs still think everything is ok, because they're still in the black

Why do I get the feeling wokeness will be to the 2010s-2020s what edginess was to the 90s-2000s only cringier and even more dated?
I would happily take 90's-2000's edginess back, thank you very much. At least that had something other than estrogen in it.

As I recall the reason there was no Femshep/Tali romance was that Talis va refused to do it because she was a muslim and it was thus against her religion to be involved in any girl on girl stuff. Although that could have been just something somebody made up during that epic "find any reason to shit on bioware and mass effect" period just after 3 released.

I thought the lines were recorded but then it was dummied out later on? The "it's against her religion" line seems to emerge from 2017, just after Andromeda released to universal execration.

The only narrative of SJW esotericism that's believable is a coming of age story, where the protagonist learns that some rules are stupid. SJWs demand that this happens on a scale of millions in a single generation, like a bugfix in the human operating system, or the sudden death of metaphysical oppressors, or more accurately consequential inertia of thousands of misfortunate events just STOPPING.

Except they never do limit themselves to that in SJW fiction, do they. They always have their protagonist be the fucking Chosen One.

Harry Potter is to blame for this. The current crop of SJWs grew up with Harry Fucking Potter and internalised its storyline as "trustafarian Jesus saves everyone," its monochrome bad guys who have no redeeming features whatever and no motivation other than "for the evulz," and since they were trustafarians and they'd read enough feminist theory to understand that there was this great nebulous force of evil called The Patriarchy from whom they had to be saved, they were clearly Jesus.

This is why Rey gains new powers as the plot demands.

We're in uncharted territory here. Never have leaks been this damaging or this extensive to a title.

Erm... Game of Thrones series 8? The Ruse of Skywanker? Maybe in gaming, yes.

Yeah, I was mainly referring to gaming. The closest we came in gaming was probably when disgruntled employees leaked the entirety of the nearly completed Thrill Kill to the internet, but by then, the game had already been canceled and shelved.

To spare you the details of a typical longpost, I'll cut it to the point. There's three reasons:

First, Marketing is overrun with these assclowns, and you have to understand how and why they got there. If you're familiar with how clickbait rose to prominence (and subsequently fell), it's the same shit. Publications worked out easy ways to dick-ride the Facebook recommended algorithm and used that to promote themselves over their rivals, something that persisted until Zuckerberg specifically nuked clickbait off the platform. It was never popular; they developed what was basically an algorithmic Gameshark. Most Facebook users were female and left-wing, so appeal to those demographics with rage-bait, something the Progressives were already doing. This inevitably led to this content getting frontpaged and everyone who could do the same thing doing so. When the clickbait model got shot in the head, they never adapted. The people who pushed clickbait as the wave of the future and Social Media audiences as the other wave of the future are still doing it, even now, as company after company chases something that failed half a decade ago.

Second, while people are quite correct that the single most dangerous aspect of Progtards is their propensity for incompetent cronyism (because they see someone who's incompetent but one of the flock as inherently more moral than someone who's peerless at their job and a filthy wrongthinker- See also: Why Druckmann agitated for Amy Hennig's removal), you don't actually need that many at a company to fuck everything up: Just one or two idiots at the wrong position can make all the difference in the world. If you take a look at Star Wars, for example, the decision by George to put Kathleen Kennedy in charge began a cancer that would inevitably result in the downfall of that franchise. It was Kennedy who pushed for the story group full of diversity hires with absolutely no experience, who pushed for Abrams and later Rian Johnson, who pushed for Progressive themes, who actively encouraged policitization of the films and antagonizing fans. All it takes is the wrong person getting high enough in the tree and into a position where the restraints are off, and they'll spare nothing at bringing about their "vision," often without regards for anything else.

Third, companies are fucking huge, and very often, have departments that are completely seperate from one another. It's not uncommon for departments to cook the books against one another and pretend everything is fine to the point of lying to the investors, when it suits them. Very often, the people in the chain of command who very well could do something about it either have absolutely no idea what's going on, some idea, but are willing to overlook some of it as long as it meets its quarterlies, or are actively on the take and don't give a fuck as long as it pushes ideology. Regardless of the three, the situation is often such that there's no way to mitigte it by the time it rolls about - they have to either release the resulting clusterfuck or waste time and money effectively redoing the project. Even when action is taken, that action can get mitigated if, again, the wrong people are in the proper departments.

The good news is that this shit is dying. It's economic poison, nobody wants this shit, and it sells like testicular cancer. The bad news is that it's going down kicking and screaming and it's going to continue to fuck things up in its death throes.

More damage control from Troy Baker. Funnily enough, he only mentions screenshots, not the actual video that was leaked

What an odd thing to do. First of all the way he talks and the argumentation in this video is like addressing children. Only kids could possibly be fooled by this type of 'logic.' Which is extra odd, considering the intended "very mature" adult audience for TLOU2.

And to rebut his claims, it does not matter that ND made the Crash trilogy 30 years ago, and got awards for them and other games. What matters is what talent of those days remains in the studio today. (very few, could even be none for all I know) And not only that, but what direction the new games have trended. And the trend has been away from gameplay, and that trend quite clearly has continued. Also, as he damn well knows, it was not a few screenshots that leaked, it was essentially the entire story and hours of footage showcasing all aspects of the 'game.'

Will the sad damage control convince even a single person who has seen the leaks? Almost certainly not, not even one.

Another thing I don't like and never understood was the abject anti-intellectualism in woke media. There are no subject matters to be concerned with outside the ideology, it's everything for the ideology and nothing except for it. Once wokeism enters the media, it becomes the sole focus of attention as the be all and end all of intellectual concerns. It's not good enough to simply have it as a presence in the story, it must be. the. story.

Fantasy is the enemy of their ideology. Thou shalt have no other gods before Social Justice. They fundamentally don't know how to tell good stories and because they've raced to the bottom to chase any writer to the right of Lenin out of the community, all they get are bedshitters like Chuck Wendig and N.K. Jemisin who exist in the community solely because they fellate the ideology, not because they've actually done anything of note.

Leftism has some place in media but not as a sole driving force of all content for an ideology imo. You need a variety of minds to keep a medium alive, not a mandated tunnel vision.

Absolutely. There's tons of great stories with that perspective in mind, and it sucks that there's good stuff that will get overlooked specifically due to blastback to this 'tism.

People are being way too :optimistic: thinking it's gonna bomb. At worst I think it will underperform but still make a small profit. Journos are going to suck this games dick(female) until the cows come home. They'll try to make it seem like the people bashing the game are contrarians to the layman. And that's all before the payola Sony will no doubt offer, you'll get reviews like the Easy Allies one for The Last Guardian which was basically "Framerate is shit, tutorials never stop popping up, controls are ass, and the AI is annoying. 10/10".
It’s gonna be the same situation as TROS. Sure that movie didn’t technically bomb and still edged over $1B, but looking at the raw numbers misses the point that it’s part of arguably the biggest franchise in the West, and that the sequel trilogy has been on a MASSIVE steady box office decline after TFA.

I doubt this game will bomb, but I’d be surprised if it does anywhere near as well as Sony had hoped for a sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games of the 2010’s.

I'm just imagining Sony going up to Jason Rubin, Andy Gavin, the old Naughty Dog team that's now with them at THQNordic, and/or Amy Hennings, groveling at their feet, begging for them to come back after Druckmann thoroughly and completely destroyed the company, because otherwise they'll receive bad optics as a result of a possible staff wipe/studio closure due to poor sales, and all of them just collectively telling Sony to go fuck themselves.

I know that's not at all what's gonna happen at this point but hey: a man can dream.
A company, especially one the likes of Sony, would never do that. Corporate culture dictates that the company can do no wrong and makes no wrong decisions.

I think your description is right for most companies, but not so much by big media, which is driven by a minority of people on the top. In those cases the problem is primarily of nepotism. After fantastic decades of memorable media, the people on the top left and put their spawns/biggest ass kissers in their place. Making media the playgrounds of either copy-pasters with no realization why the copy was liked (JJ Abrams) or people who actively despise their position in life and take it on the audience (Rian Johnson).

It doesn't help that the academia that supposedly cultivates the talent of the next generation turned into an ideological sinkhole that actively despises self-criticism, beauty and fun, and I doubt the writers guilds for films/games doesn't torpedo anyone who comes from outside. Furthermore, because consolidation of power there is no real choice in media for normies. As long as they don't go overboard, movies and games can continue pushing their ideology on the player knowing very well that people will buy them because there of hype and lack of competition.

This entire scenario is beutiful. A giant "citizen kane of gaming" violently explodes in a giant shitbomb while reddit get cucked out of their lesbian masturbation fantasy.

If Abby is actually transgender I think I'll go ballistic. It's like a dream come true.
Everybody knows that Half Life 2 is the real Citizen Kane of vidya, anyway.
Ah, quality wasn't great so I couldn't tell. She was still talking and begging not to kill that other girl though, so I figured she was mostly fine.
Considering that this very same character shot her through the abdomen with an arrow, it's not likely that either she nor the baby survives.

I just had an idea:

TLoU2 follows the story of Abby, a tomboy with no friends but her parents, her dad specifically. Game is told from Abby's perspective, doing tasks for her organisation, missions, salvage operations etc. and sometimes tells flashbacks of her time with dad but with no mention of him being a doctor or killed by Joel. Other flashbacks tell the time she became a soldier after her parents' death when she had no other options, how she got muscular and even less popular with boys, how she learned to cope with killing people... Maybe put a mission in the middle where she saves her pet Asian from kidnapping. Maybe put a theme that the Asian kid feels frustrated at serving as Abby's emotional crutch 'cause she has no other friends. Maybe let Abby show some heroics. Maybe give her a hobby or make her an animal lover so she doesn't feel look like such a stereotype. Abby spends most of the time killing zombies not people because that's what a zombie apocalypse is fucking about.

At some point Abby learns she's immune to cordyceps. For now, she just shrugs and is happy she got something good from life.

In the second half, Abby gets intel about her dad's murderers and story is now about pursuing them. Joel dies or gets killed offscreen BUT NOT BY ABBY FFS. Abby kills/tortures lots of people to get at the murderer and is frustrated she couldn't get Joel, so she goes for his relatives to avoid emotional pain from just letting it go. The game and Abby don't know it's Ellie until the final face-punching confrontation from the leaks. Ellie persuades Abby from killing her friend Scrooge McDyke by saying she doesn't want to lose her family again. Abby swallows tears while preparing to skin NotJoel, says fuck it and leaves them. Abby thinks about the past and concludes Ellie was meant to be killed by her dad for the cure.

Asian kid asks Abby what now, she hugs him saying "Why it wasn't me?" - couch psychologists have fun interpreting whenether she meant getting killed instead of her dad or getting selected as a test subject instead of Ellie. Cut to Ellie leaving Magicka DeSmell to kill Abby for teh revengeance. Game ends.

It's still a shit on people who liked the first game but I think it follows the themes. Joel killed lots of people to "avenge" his daughter and to keep having a replacement family. Abby kills lots of people to avenge her father and to keep having a replacement family (give that Asian freak a purpose to the story, OK?). Like in the first game, nothing gets resolved, there's lots of pain and death and all we learn is that murdering shit after the apocalypse instead of building civilisation back makes more problems than it solves.
