The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

I'm sorry but I have nowhere else to vent

"Critics have been asking when video games would “grow up” for years. The real question is this: when will films catch up with video games like The Last of Us Part II?"

I'm sorry, but fucking what? Does the reviewer only watch modern Hollywood garbage? What is The Godfather? What is Come and See? What is The Human Condition trilogy? Movies have been tackling themes mature themes such as revenge since the 1910s. How can someone be so fucking ignorant yet have enough pride to write a sentence like this?

This bitch got paid 100%. She was paid by Sony to write this. There is no way you can write that line without a check coming your way.

That just gave me an aneurysm.

And approaching from the other angle - Torment. Pillars of Eternity. IHNMAIMS. Gabriel Knight. Witcher. All "mature" games with "mature" themes and, more importantly, character development.

But yeah, I suspect that cretin, because she works for the Hollywood Reporter, probably only watches capeshit and whatever other dross comes out of Hollywood these days.

Don't forget the ultimate "violence bad" movie, Funny Games.

Haneke did what Cuckman wanted in 1997! And with quality and dignity, let's stress it out.

Sony must be desperate if they're flooding even nonrelated websites with money in this sad attempt to drown out how shit it is. I bet they're also going to beg search engines and use false DMCA shit to unlist stuff too given this is above and beyond their last efforts.

And I'd suggest downloading and archiving that gameplay footage for at least the next week, so that it can and will be able to be seen. I have it myself but I'm too :stupid: to figure out where to chuck it due to its file size; it needs to be on something that doesn't fall for DMCA bullshit easily.

That's the point, we hadn't got some really good middlebrow stuff from films anymore, gone are the days of stuff like Kubrick and Coppola outside of Sundance film festivals and whatever shared out of an indie film Maker's soy latte induced diarrhea

The situation is unfortunately that bleak right now in Hollywood and sure as hell isn't gonna get bette.

I find it hilarious how the main character of A Boy and His Dog is more likeable than Abby and Ellie in this shit pile. A fucking serial rapist and murderer is more likeable than your main characters, how do you fuck up that bad?
Getting high on your own farts.

I guarantee you it will absolutely fail. It is utterly pointless to get people to try and sympathize with someone after a heinous act.

This is so basic bitch it's a TV Trope thing called Moral Event Horizon, i.e. an act so vile it completely obliterates any possible sympathy you could have for the character.

You forgot "muh inclusivity" and "muh representation" and how important (ugh) it is that a QUEER WAHMEN is the protagonist rather than a grizzled white guy.

So inclusive to have the tranny character be a conscienceless psychopath.

Even the damn leaks ommited that. The idea of a roided up monster going on a cross-country trip to kill anything named Joel and kneecapping one that saves your life with a shotgun is too extreme of a plot point to be taken seriously as a leak.

And that's within the first 2 hours. People assumed the guidelines meant the leaks were from the second half. They're going to lose their shit.

Well, judging by the review written by some podcast that apparently just redacted the stuff they weren't allowed talk about, it guidelines are based on subject matter not timeframe. So they're somewhat scattershot.

Oh fuck this bitch and fuck the “games are finally becoming art because they are more cinematic” shit. People like her wouldn’t even think that a game like Fallout: New Vegas would be art despite it having a lot more to say about the human condition than TLOU2 has.

Apparently, people are calling us "mad" about all the perfect scores:

One even attempted to "satirize" negative reviews of the game:

Why even bother making a review at that point: the redactions made this incomprehensible to read.

"So the game starts with [REDACTED], and then he [REDACTED]. Then the game [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED], then you get [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED], and the game finally [REDACTED] and that's the end of The Last of Us Part II. Overall a uniquely inspiring, yet extremely [REDACTED] [REDACTED]."

I'm actually glad some people don't like it. Proving it isn't watered down, diluted to suit people and be populist . It is strong and worthwhile. Like great art should be.

So inclusive to have the tranny character be a conscienceless psychopath.

Its writing 101. Its been done...well, since like, we wrote on clay tablets. "I want this person to unambiguously be a villain. He is going to rape and murder a child. No one will root for him, don't need complexity." I mean, the old 'villian befriends protagonist's lover/friend/partner and murders them unsuspectingly' is basically a trope to do this and build tension. Like, you don't use it to then try to sympathize with this person. People don't work this way or think this way. You're a fucking idiot if you think this is going to work.

I've never seen a work of fiction go 'Oh, now you should sympathize with this person'. There's a fucking reason the 9th circle of hell in Dante's Inferno is left for traitors. Humanity and culture itself despises traitors with the greatest of hatred. It is written into our blood. I just cannot say how any more of a basic theme this is. You can't have someone as traitorous as Abby and sympathize with her. Its not possible. It is impossible to pull off. Even when good people betray bad ones, you've got this pause if its right or wrong. That's how deeply ingrained how much of a sin betrayal is. Like only when the villains are so heinous do we not question it.

And you're expecting people to inherently go with it? Its not just against writing, its against human nature. Like its from classical literature to 'snitches get stitches' to how much human beings hate traitors. And you're trying to make the protagonist of your game an unabashed traitor. It is unbelievable to me that you'd even consider this.

Literature has protagonists who are traitors, but they almost always pay for their crimes or pay for them metaphorically or get what's coming to them. They never get a free pass. And we're expected to just go with this? Druckman isn't a hack. He's a mentally retarded child who can't write and doesn't understand people.

He wrote this as his own personal vanity product to shit on the audience. That's all this game is. Its utter garbage equivalent to a student film given a AAA budget. Fuck Sony. Good job purging your weeb audience for this you cunts. Guess what, Persona 4 is on Steam and on the top sellers. You're never getting them back again. Japanese game devs for the weebs are gone eternally for shit like this. You chose poorly, motherfuckers.

Apparently, several on TV Tropes are trying to defend Joel's death and the like.

"Well, revenge is bad, in this context, because there's a tidal wave of video games that rely on hypocritical justified violence where the protagonist is slighted in some way, giving you carte blanche to mow your way through thousands of thinking, feeling human beings.

Like how do you want this to end? A bloodsoaked Ellis carrying the severed heads of her victims turning to camera and going "gee that was a swell time.""

"TLOU is not the hill I'm going to die on but, no, video games do not have to adhere to strict definitions of fun (usually meted out through cathartic violence). It's like saying movies never should have evolved beyond pulp serials."

" Joel's a violent murderer who potentially doomed the world. The notion of Protagonist-Centered Morality feels like something this game wants to take apart. Joel's a murdering scumbag. He's been one long before he met Ellie and he might have ushered in the extinction of the human race to protect his replacement daughter. I'd like to at least know why he died before crying foul."

"Just because this game is unsubtle doesn't mean that all games have to be subtle. This game being Misery Porn doesn't mean that an author should feel obliged to make their game fun. This game killing off its main characters and suffering for it doesn't mean that the concept is impossible to do well.

That kinda stuff. I call it the Flanderization of criticism. When a valid critique is warped and made more intense over time. Like people who complain that Luke tried to kill Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi, when that didn't happen."

Like, some are still holding out hope that the execution of the plot is gonna save the game. And as for Abby being unlikable?

" You don't even know what the game is gonna do with the character yet."
