The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Loving the user review score and memes. Best thing to come out of this shitshow.

Fuck yourself, Druckmann.

I think the game would’ve been better if it took the Silent Hill 2 route and had an alternate ending where Abby removes her head to reveal that she’s actually a cute dog piloting a mech suit and then Joel emerges from the water playing Spanish guitar and doing a flamenco dance before the entire cast gathers around and starts doing silly dances to a goofy song.

Y’know, at least give us something positive in the maelstrom of misery.

You know speaking of comparing this to games that end in 3: Silent Hill 3 did the whole father figure/main character of the first game is killed off, adoptive daughter seeks revenge and learns it isn't worth it story ten thousand times better. And that game was made 17 years ago.

When they kill off Harry Mason it's off screen, Heather just finds him dead in his chair at home, her tears are visceral and haunting but the death is still respectful. If you're not playing the shit ass remaster they never even show his face.

To be fair SH2/3 dunk on a lot of modern game releases in terms of story, art design and music composition.

Not only that, we immediately get to kill Harry's murderer iirc.

Oh yeah, that too.

Last of Us no uta, minna de utaou!
Minna de! minna de! utaimasyou!

That might make it slightly better, but that wouldn't turn a shit story into a great story. Abby would still be annoying and Dina's plotline would still be there.
It's true, but my point is that I think that recutting the game’s narrative could have at least made the story tolerable enough for people to be able to rationalize it from a subjective POV ("I don't like the story but I understand the characterization."), instead of the unredeemable burning heap it is right now.

One key difference is we didn't spend an entire game about Harry and Heather bonding, so while the death of Harry was sad, it wasn't as cruel as the death of Joel.

We also didn't play as and weren't expected to sympathize as much with Harry's killer.

The fans of the franchise were still pretty attached to Harry. Granted you have to infer it’s him at first from the character model and they slowly bring you to the realization of his identity, though you’ll know earlier if you’re paying attention.

But the other key difference is his death actually had purpose in the plot and wasn’t just for shock value/purposefully pissing off long time fans so a douchey upstart can brag about how bold and controversial he thinks he is.

Not going to lie, I spent 2-3 hours arguing with fanboys on Reddit for shits and giggles. I learned that:

1. The ways they bend backwards to call this game a masterpiece borders on insanity, and their conviction is harder than bricks and my constipated shits.
2. Those same people don't seem to grasp how emotionally manipulative the game is, arguing that's just good writing.
3. They deny that developers are using the gay community as a shield against criticism, and the review bombing is a legitimate attack on trans people and lesbians, and any explanation otherwise is negrated to shit.

The consensus on Tumblr, on the other hand, is pretty harsh on the game, which is surprising for me.
Tumblr (or what’s left of it) is populated by actual gays and trannies, Reddit is populated by virtue-signaling male feminists. Seems pretty logical to me.

The original Last of Us is in fact the game I felt came the closest to recapturing the magic of Silent Hill 2 and 3, ie a horror game with a great emphasis on emotional storytelling.

I never thought it was as good as Silent Hill 2 and 3, but a respectable effort for a western developer at a time when gaming was already starting to largely move away from story really mattering much, it was also fascinating that it came from a developer who were previously only known for either cartoony games or light hearted action adventure games.

This is where they should have taken a page from Silent Hill 2 and had The Last of Us 2 have all new story and characters but the same setting, that way they could have gotten as bold and as dark as they wanted without it feeling like such a slap in the face to the first game's story.

But that would of course have taken a lot more effort to craft all new story and characters, much easier to just shit on the previous efforts in order to seem deep and 2 edgy 4 u.

is this a trans flag?

The irony is, even the woke hated "representation" in this game.

At least Nier's Kaine was a bad bitch with a dick. In this game we have a little girl with no personality running away from a TERF cult because she was about to be sold as a child bride and an "androgynous" marysue terminator who's already became the most despised character in gaming history and only be remembered for the memes.
Stunning

I know you didn't outright say it, but even comparing Kainé with this nonsense of a game isn't really applicable since she is
a hermaphrodite, not a tranny.

Troons have absolutely no sympathy or well wishes for
hermaphrodites
since they really don't have anything to do with troons.

It's weird how they blame transphobes of not liking it yet it's essentially a teen LGBT torture simulator

Everyone who's involved in the discourse surrounding this game is extremely mad and extremely autistic. You've got people screeching about how anyone who likes the game is an evil sjw leftist, and others ranting about how you're an 'eeeebil homophobe!!!111!' if you don't like the story.
