The Game Awards for me is just an overhyped penis-measuring marketing campaign for video games, I don't know why people are actually even excited for it, I actually see more discussion about people arguing at each other which PS4 exclusive is better than the other categories as if these two PS4 exclusives defined gaming as a whole.

Y'know what? Fair. Not every franchise needs to be a Mario or Sonic in terms of longevity.
Once they revealed what the Precursors actually were, the series was done, since it all hinged on that central mystery.

The reveal was perfectly done, but there wasn't really anything more to do with the story after that.

Do we really need one? Not counting that 4th PSP game it was a perfect little trilogy that told a complete story.

We may not need another Jak and Daxter, but we definitely don't need another Uncharted or The Last of Us IMO.

I'd rather see them try something new at this point tbqh. It doesn't have to be a continuation of Jak and Daxter but jesus something colorful and fun would be nice.

I've been thinking about how the game journos are supposed to judge the narrative of a game like Hades. Hades is a really good game with lots of good story content, but it takes a fuckload of time to see even some of what the story has to offer. Characters will only spout one line of dialogue per run, and it's not really like you can just kill yourself in the first room of each run, because they'll run out of meaningful dialogues (gotta get that nectar and ambrosia). Just to get the standard ending, you need to successfully complete about 9 runs of the game, and then there's things like the sidequests and the epilogue that are also a part of the story. It's a grind, and I can't imagine the judges played the game enough to warrant a well-informed opinion (shocking I know). At best they probably looked up a video, and at worst they just took one single look at Abby and just decided TLOU should win.

I can, however, imagine them turning on God Mode, only to be disappointed that it's not a a "play the game for me mode", and that it's actually just a damage reduction that only reaches it's full potential after losing a couple dozen times.

The fact that so many great games didn't get nominated for anything this year, while the last of us 2 got nominated for practically every category really does show how fucked things are these days in terms of fakeness.
You're telling me games with unique eye-catching artstyles like Mad Rat Dead Didn't get nominated for the art direction? I can name like several games aside from just that one that could've taken up the slot of the last of us 2 aside from that one but it won't change shit cause last of us 2 takes up a nomination slot on practically every fucking subject.

my predicitons:
  • Sam Houser will announce his retirement from buisness, sealing the fate of R*
  • TLoU2 will get most rewards (even if didn't deserve them - like for narrative)
  • Gamergate/Trump will be mentioned - because "we are morally superior progressives hurr durr"

  • Gamergate/Trump will be mentioned - because "we are morally superior progressives hurr durr"
Someone will say "fuck Trump" but I don't think they will namedrop Gamergate.
Druckmann will get the GotY award and thank Anita first.

Same reason I liked to watch E3 with friends. There's always some hilarious fuckups and decisions that get people on the internet seething really hard. That's become less and less the case with pre-recorded Nintendo Direct-style presentations.

For example, Final Fantasy 14 players had a massive meltdown on their communities over not winning "Best Ongoing Game" award and "Best Music" award. Case in point:

The Game Awards has always been transparent about who is on the voting panel and how jury voting functions. You had many, many people who don't realize that #1, other video games than their MMORPG exist, and that #2, there was no way in hell the jury was going to vote in Final Fantasy 14.

I don't need a bunch of game journalists to tell me what I should like or not like. Let alone validate my life choices. Imagine how sad you have to be that you need to seek validation from game journalists.

That's not to mention a bunch of cunts are on the panel, like the Steve Spohn guy that complained real hard about "blind runs" being "ableist".
