The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

The upcoming one for ps4 is it good? Ai no Kiseki
Is Ries in it?

Also which to play first? That one or the Cold Steel ones

You talking about Ao no Kiseki? Trails to Azure? It's a remaster of a 10 year old PSP game.

It's widely considered the best in the series along with CS3. Yes, Ries is in it.

I'm guessing English releases will be announced soon, it wasn't even a month since Cyber Save Editor updated and we got Trails of Azure announced.

Falcom knows these sell in the west at this point.

Yeah, Kondo said during the shareholder's meeting that the west made up 18 or 19% of total sales for the company last fiscal year, which was up from 8% or something. I assume that they are going to be working harder than ever to get their new games localized in English. Timing will be interesting, though. My gut tells me that NISA will want CS4 out in October, which means they would almost have to position Zero and/or Ao for spring, and given Falcom's history, I doubt the PS4 versions are going to launch worldwide simultaneously, especially since NISA is a small company. Unless they were working on Crossbell in tandem with or before CS3, I don't think that they could get them done in just four or five or even six months.

I'm betting we get CS4 in October 2020, Zero and Ao mid 2021, (maybe official announcement or teaser this spring) and Hajimari early or mid 2022. Ys 9 may also throw a wrench into that time table. PS5 will also be gaining steam by then, so who even knows what's going to happen. I think it's more complicated than people are assuming.

I hope they revise their policy of not discussing localization until after release due to the sales growth for Western releases because the wait between titles is killing me.

I'm really looking forward to cold steel 3. From what I can tell, they did a great job aging the characters, which is pretty difficult considering how most of them went from being teens to young adults. (close in Fie's case, and Gaius was already an adult)

Cold Steel has better writing than Star Wars at this point and actually built up a new cast replacing the original rather than doing it than such a terrible and awful way with no depth.

PC release announced today.

For what its worth, Geofronts finally finished their fan translation of the PC version of Trails of Zero.

The trailer looks great, but it feels hollow since Falcom already said they'd be porting the Crossbell games soon.

Geofront patch is out and is great. Tons of work fixing the port and adding new features. Better than alot of official JRPG ports honestly. Translation is also great.

With NISA I presume.

So Xseed has been able to keep the rights for the Trails in the Sky trilogy they may be putting out a physical collection at some point because they have jack shit coming out.

Also it's looking like we will be getting Calvard because 4 heavily leans that way.

It's amazing how fast NISA is translating Falcom games, we'll have both Azure games before Cold Steel 4 on top of YS 9 also coming out.

Well I went and bought the first 2 Trails of Cold Sterl games for ps4. I hope it is enjoyable.

What should I know before starting? Dub or sub? (Pedo furry apparently voices the main character in the dub...)
Do I need to know anything beforehand?

Dub. The dub is good.

Enjoy it. Take your time. Talk to everyone and explore everything.

I ended up canceling my order once Corona Chan happened 😭 I got worried about money

I have a few questions tho because ultimately my aim is to play them (despite how disgusting Sean Chiplock is)

Are there lots of npcs to talk to? (Thanks to the older tales games, paper mario, megaman 64, etc, I always like speaking to everyone for shits and giggles)

Is the story confusing? It looks like theres a bazillion armies and stuff.

Can you play as different characters ala the Tales games?

Holy shit Rena Strober and Ben Diskin are in this. I love them. She's the rose haired glasses wearing girl?

The battle system looks a tad confusing. Is it easy to follow? I noticed it looks like the town (school?) system is like Persona and Three Houses. Is there a lot to do without getting lost?

The length of the first two games is it good? I don't mind really long games.

Is there a romance thing? Do things carry over each game

Sean's cool, don't buy into the rumors too much.

Yes. This series is the king of NPC dialogue. Nothing comes close.

Not if you play in the correct order. Either start with CS1 or Sky FC.

Yes, but it doesn't have any real effect on gameplay.

Yes. They are both great, especially Ben.

Battle system is very easy to learn. Story is centered around a group of high school students. Games are very linear, you won't get lost.

The length of the first two games is it good? I don't mind really long games.
If you take your time, CS1 and CS2 will take you 80 to 90 hours each.

Is there a romance thing? Do things carry over each game
Yes and yes.

Exciting!

I started playing Ys Lacrimosa of Dana on switch. Is it a sister series to Trails

And is it better to get trails 3 on switch?

Ys isn't related to Trails outside of being made by the same company.

Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 are not on the switch and there are no existing plans to bring them over since they're published by XSeed and not NISA. Trails 3 is the first switch game for the series which is going to make it a weird jumping on point for the unfamiliar.
