The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

I'm not into watching anime so I can't say for sure, but I could have sworn that I read that Chiplock as well as the VAs for Aurelia (who I think also works for the English VA in the games?) and Altina aren't returning for the anime though they will continue their work for Reverie. I wonder if it's an union thing with him having insisted on union salary in the past, but Chiplock's had issues with some companies before as well iirc, I think I remember reading about one of his VA friends mentioning something about Taiwan and getting in trouble with a contract and Chiplock coming in to defend him, so if that company's organizing the VA for the anime, that might have been an issue.

Yeah it was Randy Orlando va. Spoke out against China and the Taiwan War thing. Big no no if you're a public figure. He got booted and Rean defended him. He's also a bi fag. Jonah something?

Blahaha and Sean is so vocal about higher pay. Did you see the IGN article where he talked about getting paid more for Detective Pikachu over BotW? Like cry more furfag. VA's will never get higher pay because the system doesn't work that way. Its union, non-union, or ficore. If you want both go ficore.

I haven't picked up Zero in a while. I feel stupid that I can't get into it because these and the Tales games minus Zestria, DotNW, and Arise are some of my favorite series. I really think it's going from Cold Steel 3D to older style that is throwing me off. I know Azure will be released soon too. Frustrating.....

I feel like I'm watching an old sesame street cartoon whenever I hear the English voices for trails. Like, none of them have any energy when they speak.

Ok am getting back into it. Finished chapter 2. Picked up at the end. I will say that.

It is a bit depressing not having the usual character notes section lol.

There are large lengthy dialogue portions where I'm just like ZZZZZZ which funny enough never bothered me in Cold Steel series.

I am told that chapter 3 is where it picks up and surprisingly continues that momentum into Azure where things really get nuts. This is true?

Gonna get back to it. I heard they finally implement the character bios in Azure. So Azure improves on everything yes?

No idea since I honestly played Azure through psp emulation, but if it's in Zero I don't see why it wouldn't be in Azure. Hope you enjoy, Azure was quite a trip.

I'm on chapter 4 now.
god bless Noel she is iconic with her tank that really should have been an option earlier....I saw that she and Wazy are on the cover of Azure, my copy just arrived today, so hopefully they join the team....and same with Rixia as I remember her in CS2 briefly

Overall the game is better now. Very fun. So much better than the first few chapters. Not much going on though......yet.

You've played enough to know that they tend to be slow burns, if you are having fun with it now, I expect you to enjoy it quite a bit. I'd say the Zero Azure duology is my favorite of the pack. If you do have OCD of talking with every single npc after each story beat like me though, temper yourself since this one was pretty time consuming when it came to that.

Azure is one of the best in the entire franchise oh my god.

omfg the pink haired nun
The new party members are great
Npc dialogue is always interesting
Chest messages are iconic still

What quartz should I give everyone or should I just max everyone's default for now?

About your spoiler, did you not play trails in the sky 3rd? If you haven't, you definitely should give it a go as well.

As for orbments... I honestly have a clusterfuck on what broke the game in half between sky, zero and cold steel... so not really sure what to recommend off the bat. Anything that just autoblocks hits like Tio's SCraft is never a bad idea but don't remember if this game split it into only physical and only magical... and after some quick searching, evasion tanks are a thing on this one, so shove as much evasion orbments as you possibly can into your character with most access to evasion equipment and dodge to the extreme.

I'm not a PC gamer so unfortunately I haven't played the Sky series. Yes i am aware of Her appearing as a lead in one of them.

I'm on chapter 3 day 3. Its great. I've been skipping through a lot of dialogue (mainly the political shit and side quest like the funny old lady criminal) only because my god there is so...SO much of it. Can't handle it all lol.

I am mad I didn't play these before Cold Steel but now I wanna go back to 3 and 4 and see all the NPC's again. (Tho technically Crossbell is in Reverie right)

Why would you skip dialog in a Trails Game? Thats like skipping the platforming sections in a Mario Game.

A pity. Hope they come out in your system of choice, though sky 1 loses a lot of impact if you already know how shit pans out.

I get what you mean, Azure almost did me in with it's volume of dialogue. I would have hour sessions that would just be doing the rounds in all of crossbell to see all the new dialogue.

Also, Crossbell is in Cold Steel 4, not all of it mind you, but the city for the most part is there. But yeah, if you wished to check out the honey fields, that wasn't in 4. I have no idea what is in Reviere, only know it's a day 1 purchase for me.

Don't get me wrong, games where you can go to towns and talk to everyone is a large part of why I love JRPG's especially if the script is good. I rank these higher than Tales (especially since they're straying more and more from what made the Tales games so unique in favor of.....unreal engine and limited npc's to talk to. Lazy fucks.)

But with the Crossbell duology gotta take it in moderation. Can't do it all at once cause your brain will fry. I love reading but....let's just say I can see why the one translator necked himself.

I romanced Laura in the four CS games but I think I'll go with Alisa this time. (She gets a bad rap probably because canon love interest. Rachel Hirsfield is really good as her though. The voice change for Laura is like what happened with Yuri Lowell in Vesperia. Once you hear it the immersion is just plain ruined.) I am one of the few who actually likes her. I guess technically I like the entire cast lol. I am creeped out by the thigh fanservice though.....on every single girl. Including Altina.

Sara is still my favorite character. I guess I would say for me that it's Sara, Alisa, Randy, Ash, Juna (takes a bit before I got to like her, same with Musse even though Musse is best field character in 3 and 4 fight me. That's why it is called character development)

Its the NPC's that make these games special. Now that I am familiar with the various Crossbellians its gonna be fun replaying 3 and 4 and seeing everyone but 3D lol. Someone was having way too much fun with the dialogue for the two girls outside the department store (Pruna and Lorelai??) and of course others like Shanshan and her dad, Michel being a likeable faggot, Bennet and Oscar, That girl who sits in the restaurant...you know...*slurp* Come to think of it I don't remember...can you even access the downtown district in 3 and 4?

If the nuns aren't in Reverie i swear.....I did see what looks like the Nords though so yay.

I don't hate Alisa per se, but I'm mostly baffled that she gets pushed as the "main" romantic interest when they 1, don't properly commit to it and 2, she is kind of irrelevant to the grand scheme of things till game 3. Just to get it out of the way, Emma's my waifu and so it shall be till the end of time, but she always seemed like she should have been the canon pairing, she is the most relevant by far in the first game and in the rest she always has additional insight or contacts that come into play, hell, I'm convinced half her character was stapled onto Celine to avoid her being so far ahead from the rest of the harem when it comes to relevance. Also gives a nice mirror between Rean-Emma and Crow-Vita.

As for the rest of the cast, honestly half of class 7 could be axed (along with the harem which kills a level of development for a lot of characters, that Yuna's little thing with Kurt gets snuffed out to keep her open to Rean is pretty vile) and the narrative would benefit. Laura ends up being "father, swords", Gaius is "wind" (and I'm so sorry that he was your first interaction with a Dominion, all other Domion's are cool as all hell and have true weight to their stigmas, and then you have Gaius who just kind of inhereted his) and Elliot is fine as the bro character but also just devolves into "music". You could have merged Alisa and Machias, Jusis and Laura (opposite genders, give romantic tension that develops, make Millium be more of a little sister than the weird couple thing she ends up having with Jusis), Emma gets merged with Celine (the latter just being a smarter than average cat that Roselia and Emma can "possess" to communicate and do other witch shit) and Fie stays as is. Then you have Gaius and Elliot as a "bro" classmates that aren't directly involved in all of the class 7 shit which also gives Rean someone with outside perspective to chill with. Oh, and also, Sarah does not become playable till like Cold Steel 3 for the first time, having her be in similar level as the rest felt like a huge downgrade to how much of a beast she is supposed to be.

I do know with that setup I'm leaving some threads lose (well, just the Dominion slot at that point if Gaius gets downgraded to normal class member, but you could give much bigger protagonism to Thomas motherfucking Partitioner instead whom I'd love more details about) but would help a few characters be able to grow more and have the roster a bit less bloated, at least in the first 2 games.

And I've spilled all of my spaghetti and dumped a fanfic, go me.

I agree with alot of bloat problems people have, but for some reason it just doesn't bother me. Except maybe Laura even existing. They do nothing with her. She just kinda stands there most of the time when she's suppose to be a near unstoppable juggernaut.

I got Trails of Cold Steel 3 in the mail today. I just need IV and I'm set for the summer. And yeah, I have Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure so between this and Yakuza, I'm set for the year.

It's not a "my experience is ruined" sort of deal, I did very much enjoy my time with Cold Steel, but I'd say it's the "weakest" of the 3 great blocks I've played and it doesn't need to much to be equal or better.

I hope you enjoy your time. I pretty much devoured the whole series in 2 years or so and highly suggest you pace yourself. Trails and Yakuza are dense games and are best enjoyed at a steady pace.

I'm pacing myself with Yakuza, I'm playing 4 right now and I have Isshin arriving tomorrow. I'm pretty excited to play 7 as an RPG.
