The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

Rean and Alisa where they completely flubbed that.
They keep trying to push this pairing, showing her as the poster girl front and center in a lot of promo material, but she's such an insignifcant and annoying cunt who just cries and screeches at her family members.

One of my friends dropped the series after CS2, he got tired of Rean, the awful writing, and the whole harem/anime trope hanging around like a bad smell, and I showed him the screenshot at the start of Reverie which asks you to choose Rean's waifu from this huge list of people, and he laughed the hardest I ever heard him laugh.

Altina is for headpats and father daughter dynamics. As a love interest I find it creepy due to how much she learns from Rean, unlike Millium and Jusis which don't generate as much of a primoldial revulsion even though gossip in town is that "the Albareas have a type". I do love the Altina character and think she's one of the highlights of all of CS.
Fair, for me I didn't see her and Rean too much as father and daughter because she is more of the aloof character that learns how to have feelings. If it was Millium it would definitely be on the creepier side because she acts far more childish.

But well, that's the worst thing of the Rean harem, nobody's waifu is getting chosen and nobody is getting catharsis. I'm still amazed they had the audacity of having love interests with huge lore implications (the goddamn ONLY princess currently in the royal line) as well as his fucking students...
I really can't understand who likes this sort of thing. It's the participation award of romance genre.

It's amazing how her maid is an enforcer, her mother is a mover and shaker of the Erebonia economy and her father is the second in command of the big bad yet she still manages to feel tacked on. That's an impressive feat.

And yeah, specially since from your friends perspective it's Alisa, Emma, Laura and Fie, maybe Sarah as well at most.

Nah, Tio was the aloof one (then she got flanderized into a walking Mishi joke...), Altina is outright stunted developmentally. And the person that did most of the work to develop her was Rean with some help from Millium and new class 7. That's why I have a hard time with that ship since Rean is Altina's life guide for when she stopped being a puppet. Of course she would adore him, it's almost the only thing she knows. She does give Rean the teacher, which is the only facet of Rean that I enjoy, some of his best moments though. But it should definitely be nothing more than platonic. Same applies to Juna and Musse.

Millium on the other hand may be a manic pixie girl, but she wasn't nearly as stunted as Altina when introduced and by the end of CS2, her emotional development was pretty much done with. In CS3 and 4 she is one of the more "aware" members of the class and since she's not shackled by the Rean cock vortex she can actually have character moments like helping Altina be more human or noticing how Jusis is breaking at the seams by being the head of Albarea alone. Now only hoping there is a payoff to the whole "no, the plot demanded I be a lolly, but not that the curse is gone I can grow!" and the next time we see her she's a head taller than Jusis and has tits bigger than Emma.
I really can't understand who likes this sort of thing. It's the participation award of romance genre.
I find harem's annoying outside of comedy settings and even then they usually overstay their welcome, but unrersolved harems are just pure aids. It's the text book definition of eating and having your cake. I would much rather Rean was commited to that boring vapid whore Alisa and be done with it instead of what we ended up where most characters are trapped in the cock vortex and cannot have lives. Poor Sarah was ruined by this, the comedy gold of her trying to get in Viktor's pants much to Laura's dread could have been great. And it's very noticeable when you look at the characters free from the cock vortex where Jusis and Millium are a thing and music and wind guy got themselves some girlfriends from other classes. Emma and Fie at least have enough going between the hexen clan and old jaeger life to keep them engaging, but Laura ends up with nothing as well.

Soon as I was about 70% into act 3 of Daybreak 2, I just got so burned out I started skipping cutscenes. Its so boring omg. Everything before Nameth was fine. I hope the school festival is fine because at this point I'm just ready for Sky Remake and Horizon. Yuri Lowenthal can't even get me invested in this entry and he's one of the goats imo.

The time travel is so......okay lemme say I totally get why they originally intended it to go Daybreak -> Horizon. So 2 wasn't even supposed to be a thing originally. But you can clearly tell they literally just threw shit at the wall to see what sticks. Its clear they published this to waste time until Horizon. So much of it is filler. Idgaf about faggot hermaphrodite (though lmao at the irl fag voice actor getting shafted by mihoyo), idgaf about genesises. Idgaf about either set of twins. I miss Lapis. I miss Sara, Laura, friggin Gaius, Emma, even fucking Elliot and Musse. Its that bad. I did like the school chapter and also I liked meeting Judith's grandma. I think Judith has a mom but who knows where she is.

Nameth Island....good GOD. They don't just jump the shark they fucking handspring double flip back flip torpedo sail over the damn shark. It is cool hearing Thane from Mass Effect but he is so wasted. And idgaf about the evil hoodie twins.

I'm bummed that trio of the two guys (Jess and what's his face) a girl and a guitar aren't around. Hope they are in Horizon. The NPC story arcs are what saves me from completely giving up like Kisara's for example.

Coming into this threat is always a gamble as i may spoil myself about future series, i like the challenge though.

Gotta ask though which is the worst trails entry and shoulld be avoided?

Mmm I haven't played Kuro 2 so can't say if it's pass worthy, though it sounds like the closest to that. The biggest thing you will notice is a general degradation or animufication of things. The first 5 games are gold, the Cold Steel games are a mixed bag with pits and peaks (us constantly bitching about the main character should give you an idea of one of the main contention points), Reverie I enjoyed as a putting a bow on things with "EVERYBODY IS HERE!" on top. Daybreak was just fine but I think I'm kind of burned out on the saga in general, it was the first not end of arc game that didn't end with my raring to play the next one.

The trails fandom is notoriously fractured, on YT you will see people hail Azure as the best game in the series when it's my least favorite, and I still think it's worth playing. They will also put FC near the bottom ( everyone who does this should be shot) so there is no real consensus besides the Sky arc being the best.
If anything should be avoided it's the gacha game. Which I refuse to play.

Worst for me is juggled between Cold Steel 3 and Daybreak 2 - Cold Steel 3 *feels* like it can be avoided, but some serious events happen at the end of it. The same cannot really be said about Daybreak 2, which feels like you can safely skip it, and you wouldn't miss too much.

So consensus is Sky 3rd, CS4, and Daybreak 2. People will say CS1 and 2 but that's actually bullshit. Especially compared to Daybreak 2 holy shit.

They're not like absolutely horrible shit games which is generally impressive because Falcom is such a small company. For myself, its the people you can talk to. I always always talk to everyone after a point to see what new thing they will say. And unlike a lot of RPG's a lot of them have character development as each game continues. You'll see this person or that person and recognize them from a previous entry. These small intricate things I enjoy.

Thems fighting words!

Yes, Kev's story is pretty self contained but there is a ton of setup for Erebonia and Crossbell in there that makes things hit better Star door 15 as well as the first time we see The Agnis and Grand master interacting

But even though it was mostly a dungeon crawler, I LOVED 3rd. Also, the hottest of takes, has the best soundtrack in the series

I can see why people would dislike the 3rd, it's all reused assets. For the third game in a row. And while that has become normal in the future at the time it left a shitty taste in my mouth too.
But Star Door 15 remains the most hard hitting moment in the series. Trails never goes that extreme again. In fact to anyone attempting to play the game make sure you get the uncensored version.

Also the 3rd is not skippable. Also also the green guy is a main protagonist and you will respect his name, whatever it is.

Imagine seeing and recognising characters from previous entries in an interconnected series. Wild. I also clapped when I saw and remembered the thing.
To be fair im also like him, is cool to see returning characters in such ways that dont feel forced and actually organic. It reminds you that theres cohesion and shows that everyone is on the same world. Is the little details in Trails so far that has me hooked.

How far are you into the series? With the latter games, the returning characters really do feel like they come back just to act like flanderized versions of themselves.

Shit opinion. Even if you argue it's a glorified post game it's still incredibly fun to have the option to break the combat system in half, get some cool scenarios and great lore reveals. It's miles better simply for not have Rean angst for the billionth time and having a self contained scenarios.

I'd say Reverie is the worst from the ones I played. A lot of promise only to once again devolve to Rean dick sucking and feeling like a scrapped gacha with the same. Though the worse moment of the franchise for me was the end of two with the boss gauntlet where you literally get bailed out by other people every fight, making you wonder what's the point.

Don't shoot the messenger. I love Sky 3rd. Ries is one of my favorite characters and I want her to reappear. But some people love to say its a side game when it absolutely is not.

@Estelle Bright (based username btw and welcome to the farms) its been forever for me but I still can't quite wrap my head around it. Star Door 15 imply that
Renne was not only sexually abused but she also cut herself frequently?
