The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

2. Logitech devices either require me to boot into Windows to change the settings (Ie my mouse) or don't work at all (gaming keyboard has no driver for the G keys, sees them as 1-6
I have control of my mouse with Piper, have yet to mess with the G keys as I never used them much and would dearly like to change the colours on my headset (forgive me, I’m female and like stuff to match),

My nvida card works fine but it’s a newer one which helps. Last time I put the PC to sleep I ended up having to hard reboot and not sure what caused that.

@WULULULULU try Piper, I have the same mouse

Why?
t. g502 daily drivin linux

Yeah there are a couple workarounds for the mice, although a little clunky compared to the windows version. I cannot get the gaming keyboard drivers to work though, and other people it's been pretty hit or miss.

Absolutely fuck Nvidia. That is all.
Is it just way harder to play games on manjaro linux with an nvidia card? Games run way worse on there then on linux and other than some tiny issues, its my only real hangup with the thing.

I hate the concept of needing a driver of any software for a gaming mouse or keyboard. I have two "mechanical" keyboards but both are plain USB and neither of them have RGB because I think it looks tacky as shit. and I know i'm not the only one who hates the ridiculous "gamer" aesthetic. it seems like it's almost impossible to get a nice mouse without it having some kind of stupid glowy light.

So im planning to upgrade my moms old Vista laptop to Linux, which distro is the most idiot friendly?
the curent recommendations are popOS and mint I believe. actually, if you do most of your computing in a browser (boomer facebook, social media, email) and only do a few native windows applications (like copying files around) you'd probably have a harder time getting used to a mac (stupid keyboard buttons)

Just buy a cheap one. They never have those bells and whistles.
you're right but I was thinking of maybe getting one with higher dpi for aim-intensive games (not that I'm particularly good, but would be fun to try)

I suck at shooting and my mouse is cheap, so most of my online gaming has been games like Rust or Ark where you can grind until you have way more resources and can just BTFO people through being OP.

I tend to stick to single player these days. Or co-op. I'll always have fond memories of c4ing people's bases while they cry on the mic, but I don't have time in my life for that kinda grind any more.

In my case, it isn't the RGB that doesn't work (that works as normal) with the keyboard - its the extra G and M keys that don't. RGB lights on the mouse still work too, but by default I can't change their settings. If I leave them as is they appear the same on Linux.

I do hate RGB lighting on things in general though, about the only thing I use them for on the keyboard is when I am cleaning it out and I want to make sure I got all the crap out from under the keys.

Unfortunately he cucked out after that.

I am not a fan of snaps at all but I would still recommend Ubuntu / Debian to beginners for the sheer amount of guides online on how to use it. Acutally I think Mint is based on ubuntu but it might be slightly different, maybe not enough to make a difference. But stuff like graphics drivers (i.e. nvidia) might be designed specifically to work only with an exact version of ubuntu for some reason.
The main Mint releases is generally based off the latest Ubuntu LTS release with updates. If there isn't a specific Mint package in a third party repo, you can just use an equivalent Ubuntu version- I've never run into problems with that. I think the GUI software center type tool it comes with may even automate that when adding PPAs. Using Mint is like using a Gnome 2 era version of Ubuntu- it just works. Releases come more often than Debian stable releases, and while it does have the systemd infection so does Debian so it seems like a better beginner choice

This is great, the guy seems like another Terry type who's good at coding but also prone to staring deep into RNGs. Too bad he seems to have pulled all his binaries down.
there are probably a bunch of kooky old school unix types that are just a crazy mailing list rant away from being discovered

I have been using the same mouse for over a decade now and have never felt the need to replace it. The Logitec B100. This mouse has outlived 4 computers and survived 6 cross-country moves. The only reason why I also don't use my equally long lasting logitech keyboard is because my old roomate bought me a gaymer keyboard with lights and everything.

The best part is, within the week that I got the new keyboard, the enter key started sticking, and within a month the lights went out on it. idc how boomer it makes me sound, Logitech makes durable shit.

One time when I was visiting my dad in like 2003, he needed his mouse cleaned. So I reached into my work bag and gave him the thing we could just grab off the shelf at work when we needed:

Just the Logitech Optical. The original I think? So he had a house fire last month (don't have gook neighbors), and the fucking thing is still going. Nothing wrong with Just A Mouse. I need at least forward/back buttons now though.

Fuck whoever decided the mouse control panel in MATE didn't need an option to make the scroll wheel work right, i.e. spin the wheel forward, the scroll bar moves forward, instead of that ass backwards shit that is default. I guess I at least learned how to use xinput finally.

that's what was true, but maybe not currently. their G502 was their best selling mouse but apparently their newer stuff suffers quality control problems. it's documented in some amazon reviews which is a real shame. not the first company to have a bestselling product, only to cheap out on manufacturing and tarnish their reputation

True. I had the like... first MX mouse and shit's notorious for killing the button microswitches, mine died like that.

I digress but I just want to get a reliable mouse that has a little DPI and aim, is that too much to ask
