Daily reminder that Gentoo is a meme distro. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
>shitty article that basically shits on everything that is not Debian and is most likely written by a Lesbian Troonix user
Okay, great – why doesn't Debian actually attract its users in the same way?
Setting up a minimal Debian server can be also a learning experience. Why are the other distros not attempting to copy their success?

OH. I know! Maybe it's due to the fact that the Debian wiki just plainly fucking sucks?
People often forget that the Archwiki (and the Gentoo wiki) are so well-known in fact, the first resource to search – on *any* standard distribution – are those two.

Also, the article is heavily outdated.
Other than that:
1) Building from source was the only way to get firefox to support anything else than PulseAudio. This is also the case for libressl, but that project died due to the lack of support.
2) Gentoo is actually now going the BSD way, and is offering pre-built packages. It used to offer BSD kernels as well (this post is from 2003), but again, due to the lack of maintainers ( I assume) it fell apart.

QRD: It's a problem with the distribution of information.

I actually like Debian (my next distrohop will be either that or Fedora), the problem is that the retards who run stuff don't bother to update their documentation, hence the popularity of Arch and Gentoo.

Idk. I just use arch. Like you said the wiki is one of the best around.

But also, having up to date software if i want to is great. And with the aur you can pretty easily get just about anything you want and build it from source from there. If you use an aur helper with literally the same amount of input as when using pacman. And building stuff without a helper is still nice and easy.

I see people complaining about it not being stable because everything is bleeding edge. But i just haven't had any issues with it because of that.

I've had more problems trying to get my system working how I want it with ubuntu based systemd and debian though.

I do like reading the Gentoo Handbook every time I entertain the idea of trying it out. It holds my hand as if it assumes I don't know what some things are and I feel like a lot of guides could follow that kind of way. I always set it back down knowing a little more than the last time I give it a read.

Could be worse, though. He could be an applefag.
Yes, how dare we want to just use our computers without either being force-fed garbage like on Windows, or sitting down with a hex-editor and x86assembler to change our wallpaper image, while also plugged in because we don’t have working power management.

Linux is great, but until it “just works” it won’t displace MacOS. I can’t think of any reason to use Windows over Linux though. Solidworks and games with kernel-level anti cheat? The latter you can solve by just playing better games, the former is harder to get around.

Xorg's tear-free feature is more suitable than a feature-creeping underlay for your windows.
With TearFree enabled some games start stuttering or are FPS capped.
EDIT: It also depends on the specific compositor and videogame, luckily it's possible to disable the compositor when needed.

Yet like a true nigger cattle. He uses windows because he doesn't feel using linux.
He has very stubborn beliefs about technology and I feel like arguing with him on that is a great way to end up on his shitlist.

If you're using Mac for something like Professional photography, sure.

well being a stubborn sotb is a big reason the farms are still running, sticking to what he knows and feels more productive with is excusable.

I install it on a decade+ old notebook, everything just werks. even the keyboard macros and rgb shit. not even windows can compete with that (the last software version for windows is only supported up to 7).

it's normal that wayland struggles with external monitors? i have an xp-pen drawing tablet with a screen. and, after installing endeavouros with kde and both the official drivers (first) and opentabletdriver (later), the tablet screen gave me zero signs of life. by a quick google search, it seems it's a wayland issue? i wanted to see if the nvidia support to wayland + kde started to get good...

it looks like they are just pushing the download for the beta version, and actually pretty slow on the mark. Update Manager doesn't see an upgrade to 22 nd the Linux mint website still shows 21.3

If you arent using a minimal window manager. Linux isn't like that.

You can use one of the however many desktop environments and nearly everything just works.

Maybe in the past it wasnt like that. But now its pretty simple to have a computer thats just as usable as windows immediately after installing.

Linux Mint, xfce. Currently able to set up most of my needed programs. However, headset microphone DOES NOT WORK. I am running a Baseus D02 Pro but using the 3.5mm audio jack. Audio codecs of the B650M HDV/M.2 is Realtek ALC897 7.1 CH HD Audio Codec, Nahimic Audio. I tried setting the microphone and even testing it out no response. Using the audiojack on the top of the PC case (Corsair 4000D) results in weird sounds being played on the headset.

Have you tried using pipewire instead of pulseaudio? The latter is known to be shit while pipewire works much better.

Wasn't improved multi-monitor support an explicit justification for Wayland to replace X?

Maybe in the past it wasnt like that.
"The past" being "some time in the 90s" in this case.

Did he just watch brian lunduke's video on this. And because he doesn't want to mention him. Pretending like he discovered all this himself?

I can't help but get the feeling that's what he is doing right now.
They're all scared of the consequences if they mention him. It's ridiculous.
We all saw how silent they were when GNOME hired a shaman. That type of new age crap should be mocked, not ignored for "the greater good".
