This is basically what Ageless Linux is trying to do. https://agelesslinux.org/index.html
Makes sense. I mean it's the only logical path forward I can see. Especially because I don't see anyone actually willing to put up a big fight to stop these laws from getting passed all over the country. It seems like everyones distracted by Israels war with Iran, and a million other stories that are actually getting coverage as these are getting passed.

So bating states enforcing the fine after they get passed, to then be able to challenge them seems like the only option left.

It would be the funniest thing ever if distros moved over to Dinit which has near-identical way of doing things, minus scope creep. Or they copy MX Linux.
The only thing similar about dinit is the service files have a key=value format.

Other than that, they are really pretty different.

Are there any that can interpret or convert systemd service files? I'm wondering how hard it would be to make a drop in replacement while still having full support for existing software?

Ran the newest version of Game Maker through wine-staging, and was fully expecting it to blow up. Instead it ran perfectly without any tinkering whatsoever:

Hardware acceleration is working, no performance issues. Fonts are correct. Titlebars are properly integrated. I dont know if its just me but it feels like WINE has gotten way better recently.

The biggest thing I want solved that is a consistent issue with any Windows application on it is some solution to that fugly as fuck file picker that WINE, along with DaVinci Resolve defaults to. I don't know what it is, it’s not the usual GTK4/GNOME Play-Doh ware, I would argue it's even worse than that because the file picker that it uses is not only ugly but also super tiny on big monitors which makes navigating it a pain in the ass. I wish it somehow respected portals so that it opened your default file manager instead. While I had success in patching Audacity to use portals I am sure it wouldnt be that simple to do on WINE.

This is retarded.
I think mostly it's used to vendor-lock laptops (by OEMs and by IT departments for business machines).
It 100% is mostly used by sysadmins to control business machines and enforce tamper proofing. There are ways to make Secure Boot useful and private via projects like HEADS or even Coreboot if you really wanna go down the kernel pin + sign route. I was planning on doing something similar on Guix but since you can't encrypt boot without using ukify or limine and forsaking the ability to pick prior system generations, I have held off. On ye olde imperative distro it should be possible and theoretically reduce the risk of kernel-level malware, but that's pretty ayylmao in the same vein as spectre or meltdown gimping you out of 30% cpu performance for the sake of muh seekurity.

that makes literally zero sense, ubuntu is the single linux distro supporting it out of the box. I use ubuntu images when I fucked up the initramfs and need rescue. wtf
Have you tried SystemRescue+ZFS ? Seems like it might be a solution for a rescue iso with ZFS support.

Haven't tried this fork myself, but I can vouch for the upstream SystemRescue project. I use it whenever I need to do any maintenance.

The problem is all of the edge cases. systemd is designed like cancer: it keeps metastasizing until it becomes unfeasible to fully replicate. For example, in my current Gentoo install, I've used systemd to replace /etc/fstab and eg. NetworkManager. If it was just about init, that's one thing; it's quite straightforward to port systemd units. I mean, you feed an LLM a systemd unit and a spec for whatever init system you want and it'll do the translation fine, but it's damn near as fast and straightforward to DIY it yourself, or even better, look at Artix packages to see how they port to specific inits.

Used to use it when it was still gentoo based. Guess I'll just make my own images or something.

Not sure. But it's not very complicated to do it yourself.

Or just use artix, if you didn't write the systemd service, and it just came with the package. They probably already have a package for the program but for the init you chose to use.

If it's something from outside the repos, then you will obviously have to make it. But dinit services are pretty simple, much simpler in nature than systemd services, where they have basically a whole book worth of man pages you have to look through to find everything.

The same faggot who wrote the age verification hooks for systemd is trying to put them in archinstall:
Useful idiots like this need to either be clowned on enough to disappear or be re-educated in the wonderful and essential aspects of personal liberty and the right to privacy.
At least one other contributor higher up the food chain shot down his idea before it gained traction, but another few look like they are at the very least not against it.

"lmao no"

"hm what if we just make archinstall not set up user accounts so it forces gives people an opportunity to enter their information"

I have a feeling this is only the beginning...

Might be the "worst", but eventually it may be one of the few remaining ones that is safe to use.

What if we pulled a ranjesh and mass-reported his account for pushing malware into others software? This might trip an algorithm and get his account temp-banned if enough reports are filed simultaneously.

The devil you don't know, in this case, the Communist Party of China? They're immeasurably worse in every conceivable metric.
I can tell you right now, having dealt with both governments, is that they are incredibly similar in thought process, dysfunctional, and retarded policy wise. The red lines are just different (Shit talking chosen ones vs the CPC, for example). Money talks, it's just legal in the US for donations. It's not legal in China but everyone does it anyways (while shitfaced drunk).
The only difference that is keeping the US from immediately becoming "Dystopian China but with less people" is the fact that people have guns, lots of guns, and the theoretical capability to just light up the government a way a disarmed population can't. Also that representative republics and democracies (well, the factions behind them) fucking hate strong leaders unless it's them.
Core 2 Quad supremacy.
Phenom II x6 > C2Q. Don't mind the house warmer dual-use.
Dylan guy is that he's young
Nigga graduated in 2015. If he was 22 then (went to uni at 18) he's fucking 33 now.
But then again, this is a fintech bro.

How big of a team is needed to fork SystemD, or at least the essentials? Could CachyOS and Linux Mint and a couple others get together to maintain a fork?
Depends what you want to do with it. If you just want to fork it as-is and leave it, you could do it yourself in a lunch break. If you want to re-write it in COBOL* and keep it updated you'd probably need several dozen very bored - and probably insane - friends.
The Mandriva fork keeps the most egregious shit switched off, and has 12 contributors, so about that many is a good ballpark. Or you could just use theirs if you like it.

*What do mean "Why"? Where's your sense of adventure?

Just enough to remove the overreaching crap but still have a normie friendly "it just works™️" distro where users don't need to fuck around in the terminal to play games or browse the Internet

Do yourself a favor and install XLibre's X-Server, ignore all the propagandists who tell you X11 is dead in the water.
Yes, X11 never died. I've been using Debian for over 10 years now and I've exclusively used X11 DEs (Gnome/Xfce initially, then Budgie and now Cinnamon) and you don't need xlibre or whatever fork if it's not available for your distro. But there's a concerted attempt by a group of assorted fags to kill it and push Wayland. They've been doing it for a decade and a half at this point.

I personally don't have anything against Wayland even though I have only negative experiences with it, as it's been a long while since the last time I tried it (~2017, Debian Sid had broken GNOME's Xorg and I was forced on to the Wayland session). I just don't see why I should be switching to a worse system just for handwavy "security" and "performance" benefits; it's like systemd all over again but this time I'm not letting it be forced upon me.

It suddenly occurs to me that rust progressively and totally taking over what it touches until it's completely destroyed is precisely what rust does.

View attachment 8760751

Guess I had that 'semantic satiation' where I see Rust bitched about so often I forgot it refers to an actual phenomenon.
Funny enough, Rust isn't named after literal rust, but after an order of fungi (named that way because it tends to look similar to rust on plants) because it's said to be "over-engineered for survival"... and itself is a fungi that acts like a parasitical disease on plants and is considered a major concern in agriculture.

That's Mandriva, then, and 12 people. They're also working on a switch to Xlibre+SonicDE, but I'm still waiting to see what they do with age verification.
