The Matrix Resurrections Thread - Woah

To be fair, that's one of many reasons that Revolutions was trash. On top of just being an hour of people shooting machines and another hour of two invincible people punching each other repeatedly, it apparently forgot that Neo was supposed to truly free humanity from machine control when all he did was ignite a "truce" between the two, which is just lazy writing. Humanity doesn't come out on top because there's absolutely no guarantee that the machines won't just go full Megatron and enslave humanity again, basically all Neo does is transfer them from one slime pit to another.
Explained in Matrix Online and Resurrections, you cant just press Start---Shut down at a system as complex as the matrix, Neo perfectly knew that killing all the machines was impossible because they would just destroy Zeon (thing that they actually did as confirmed in 4) like they have done several times already, the best he could do after the path of the one was completed (that's the name it has) was achieving a truce between the two factions with the hope that mankind will liberate itself like they were doing by now but there are 2 things that shocked the truce hard one was...

Part of the social commentary in this film is how now people want to "stay in their pods" (an actual phrase in the script) and enjoy what the matrix pipes into their brains. It's clearly a barb aimed at terminally online people (there are scenes of people together in physical spaces but staring at their phones) and branch COVIDians who would rather cower in their houses and let the governments of the world run things rather than live their lives.
This, funny enough this was one of the reasons the truce was destroyed in Matrix Online, your player leadered by Naobi discover that the machines are fucking the truce by subtly brainwashing people on the system to make them not wanting to be redpilled and leave, mankind would have the moral ground here but they also fucked the truce by breaking the cease fire creating a fuck all fortress deep underground with all the guns they could muster that i suppose is now Io except that the entrance is a little different as how it was described (its supposed to be high as shit of EMP weaponry that no machine could ever survive)

My take about the new timeline is this, i think Morpheus came back after his cringe death in Matrix Online (is hinted that he is alive)and leadered Zion as best as he could but his faith in Neo and what he did was so absolute that he believed the truce would last forever, sadly he did not see all the signs of the new faction rising and was teabagged alongside Zion, in my discord there was a joke that he literally became a religious extremists and the best part Matrix Online support this theory because of his talk with the Oracle after the Matrix 3 where he is enraged at the Oracle because the machines refuse to return Neo body to Zion, he believed his body has to be buried and made a holy place, and he was so pissed off that went full Sam Hyde on the Matrix to force the machines to return it, doesnt help that there was a faction E Pluribus Neo that is cyberpunk Al Qaeda

Another little thing: in MO there is a part of the lore where is mentioned that a machine received a order from someone to not recycle Trinity body now we know who it was in 4

Yes, I have played Online. That "explanation" was dumb back in 2005, let alone 2003, and it's still dumb now. The Wachowskis are garbage stoytellers. And the way the film presents the resolution to the conflict, it does so in a way that makes it seem like humanity comes out on top when as a matter of fact, it's just a slap on the wrist.

If they had made the Catrix, with Neo as the black Deja Vu cat and Agent Smith as a Persian then we could have Trinity as a Sphinx cat and then Morpheus could be a black Panther, the possibilities are endless, it would have been GOAT (I am a cat larper of course I would think this).

To be honest as soon as I saw the beginning, which was a rehash of the first movie's opening scene, I zoned out. It was cool when everyone was still using landlines and dialup, cell phones had just become common but it just felt dated and out of place. The gritty setting of the original world is gone and now the Matrix is sunny and pretty San Francisco minus drug addicts, hobos nodding out amidst poo and piles of discarded syringes and boarded up Walgreens while rich latte sipping tech fags walk over them as if they don't exist. SF sunny, you know its fake!

Even the world in Free Guy felt more real and it was a literal cartoony game world.

Yeah i even found it weird, i got confused a little because i readed the developer log that contained all the material that was prepared for the game, and the only things that remained were Zion getting butty fucked by the machines after the break of the truce and the merovingian surviving but no mention of Morpheus being directly alive, is hinted that he is because someone else get the special bombs he was using to destabilize the matrix that no one except him has

What it did survive was the concept of Data Morpheus that he was around as a decoy from a villain

Does this movie bombing mean the Wachoskis are done making movies? Who will give them any money to make anything now?
All their movies since the original Matrix trilogy have flopped. They were given chance after chance after chance and just kept failing. So it's funny that they still whine about how studios don't give originality a chance and just want franchises and sequels.

If even Resurrections bombs hard (which should have been impossible just based on nostalgia alone), I would hope they never work again. But studios will probably still keep giving them money and hope they somehow catch lightning in a bottle again, even though it's clearly not happening.

This is a one man job actually (heh get it?) the other brother doesnt appear at all in the credits not even as a producer

No one has ever fought an agent and lived..............

(magical dangerhair easily runs away as multiple agents shoot at her with automatic weapons from a few feet away)

The funny thing is that that's actually the best action scene in the movie. The move she does with suplexing an agent by his neck with her legs is badass, as is the jump where she smashes the corner of a building. Too bad the rest of them are just lame shakycam [edit: actually I meant fast cutting, not shakycam. either way it sucks].

Jean Baudrillard was a big influence on the Matrix but the Watchowskis didn't really understand his work, the matrix being much more similat to Plato's cave than simulacra & simulation.
Here's a video if you got time to listen to something on this special day (I sure do!)
The basic tl;dw is that the Matrix presents a binary system, you're either redpilled or bluepilled but the postmodern reality presents endless layers of truth and falsehood.
Here's a twitter splurtchain if you got even more time to waste.

So years later we get Matrix Resurrections and it does contain some lines about the binary but has the same red/blue separation. Why couldn't it attempt to address Baudrillard's criticism of the matrix? Why do we get references but no substance?

Well the director already answered this question, it's because this was his way of coping with his parents deaths; he cracked open the toybox, pulled out Neo and Trinity and got back to playing. But since he's a troon now he's identifying with the girl and not the dude we get Trinity being way more important to the plot.
That's right, this is basically Matrix Revolution 60 by our own Brianna Wu, it even has action girls and motorcycles, which are as dear to Wu as to Watchowski.

For something better go read the manga Joshi Kouhei by Matsumoto Jiro. I won't elaborate further because it's almost certain nobody here heard of it and any discussion on the connection will spoil everything. Go read it, it's like Apocalypse Now with giant girl mechas. Go read it. They finally finished translating it. Go read it.

Why bring back the Merovingian for this. Like, what was the point. This is the entirety of his lines (aside from some ranting in French):

You? Oh! It is you! All these years. I can’t believe it. You stole my life! Kill him!
(..)
You ruined every suck-my-silky-ass thing! We had grace. We had style! We had conversation! Not this beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep! Art, films, books were all better! Originality mattered! You gave us Face-Zucker-suck and Cock-me-climatey-Wiki-piss-and-shit!
(..)
This is not over yet! Our sequel franchise spinoff!

Did someone think it was clever? Whoever wrote this shit should just be taken out back and shot.

You know I read some comments on here and I thought "Well, I did only watch half an hour of this shit, perhaps I was too brash" so I watched the rest of it.

OMFG. How can anybody come on here and defend this utter piece of shit tripe? If the first 30 mins were bad, the last 90 minutes was a spectacle of the worst kind.

If any person reading this thinks this is a film with any merit, please get the list of Academy Award Winning Films and the nominations that didn't win from 1968 to 1980 and then tell me if this film (Matrix 4) is worth anything more than the shit on the soles of my shoes.

I feel like the first 30 mins was like taking home the ugly chick at the bar; and the last 90 mins was when I woke up in the morning and realized I was so drunk that I thought she looked ugly , but in fact was more akin to a Kraken and I had to chew my arm off to escape.

It is right up there with Season 3 of Westworld, but even worse if that's even possible. "Plot flaws" is the least of this film's problems. Childish, hammy, ridiculous, poorly written, terrible sequences and a worthless plot line.

The point of the film was to make a few bucks because she/it/he/whore trash new we would watch it regardless, but the point of the film was to show us that just as with the Directors choices in personal life, everything they touch is a dumpster fire.

Yeah, the competition and the lukewarm reactions to the film pretty much doomed it from the start.

Still though, at least it doesn't end on a cliffhanger or leave a whole bunch of plot-threads hanging.

Yep, this movie was drizzling shits. From the first half hour or so where the movie itself is basically saying “we didn’t want to make this movie so fuck you”, to the rest that’s alternating between being boring or horribly shot action scenes.

Not sure why the Bros couldn’t just take a nice check and show up at the premiere and let people who maybe actually wanted to make the movie make it instead of whatever the fuck this is.
