TBH is there a non gay librewolf type thing?
I built Ladybird a few months back and it looks very promising. It renders a lot of stuff amazingly well, although there are still a lot of performance issues. They've got some major funding though, and the lead has done a lot of work on Webkit and other engines. It's still at least a year away or more from prime time though.

Null appears to be using Librewolf, so it should be fine for now.

I'm hoping It won't be bought out by microsoft or some shit and they flood it with pajeets to ruin it.

Posting this here since I didn't see it mentioned elsewhere on KF and I just learned about it today:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/202...ket-and-fakespot-services-to-focus-on-firefox

Mozilla is shutting down both Pocket and Fakespot, presumably to focus more resources on Firefox. They had just acquired Fakespot in 2023. I've personally never used Fakespot but I do use Pocket to save news articles to read on my e-reader, so I am a bit disappointed by this news. Oh well, another two things to get added to https://killedbymozilla.com/

Didn't even realize Fakespot was a Mozilla product (I use Brave) but now I'm mad at Mozilla for killing the one product of theirs that I still used. Especially shitty since it wasn't developed inhouse it's something they bought out just to end up killing it for no reason.

Anyone else experiencing some new problems since the last update? Alot of webpages have started to just freeze up and FireFox even gives me a pop-up about how it's slowing down the browser.

So here's all the settings you need to do to stop Google and/or Mozilla from spying on you.

K3V1991 / Disable-Firefox-Telemetry-and-Data-Collection (at GitHub)

toolkit.telemetry.server Delete URL
toolkit.telemetry.shutdownPingSender.enabled false
toolkit.telemetry.unified false

(this is in about:config BTW)

And to stop Google from constantly downloading a blacklist of bad URLS?

It looks like that mysterious ~20 MB of writes are a constantly updating blacklist of bad sites -- which would explain why the free space on the drive doesn't change and why it only happens when online, so disabling it may increase the risks of running into a malware site. That said, disabling that could be with going to about:config, looking up "safebrowsing", and setting the "download" related settings to false. But again -- and especially on Windows -- this could mean the increased risk of going to a bad website.
I think it may be as simple as going to about:preferences and disabling "Block dangerous and deceptive content"?

(but could also be disabling the download-related preferences mentioned earlier)

Is there a good Pocket alternative?
never used it, but depends what you need it for. iirc there are quite a few tools doing parts of it, if not a full replacement by now to not upload all your data to mozilla.

So I found out that FF is still doing many writes to "CW /home/[ToroidalBoat]/.mozilla/firefox/[profile]/datareporting/glean/db/data.safe.bin"... so how do I stop that crap?

Since you're on Linux, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, you could probably just mount that db directory into tmpfs.
You could use unshare to mount a private tmpfs without using root, or if you do have root access, put tmpfs and the path in /etc/fstab.
Not ideal, but it would protect your SSD from killing itself in the meantime until you find a solution.

I'm not that skilled in Linux yet. But at least the writes are far, far less than ~20 MB every half hour, back when "Safe Browsing" was on. That crap downloaded from Google.

(I use uBlock for protection from scumsites now.)

Is there a good Pocket alternative?
/Switched to Raindrop.io since the day I learned about Pocket being closed soon.
Liking it so far, especially that it could be installed on Linux as a separate app (repacked from snap via epm on my Alt KDE). Though it could really use an addon that'd allow to open pages in private mode (which Pocket had).

People also suggest trying Obsidian web clipper. Didn't try that one YET, but sounds like a nice app.

Just tried it but I keep getting errors on the browser version. I'm not sure it's any better than other options at the moment.

I logged into Pocket from my old browser and apparently hadn't saved pages to be viewable offline. Pages that are now offline for good (since sometime in the past year).

I think I need to take it a step further and rely on archival tools like WinHTTrack or something that'll make a thorough local backup instead of an account-based tool.

>Mozilla IRC
>In 2019, Mozilla announced that it was shutting down its irc.mozilla.org IRC network and looking for alternatives, due to ongoing issues with abuse and harassment, as well as technical barriers.
>abuse and harassment

Let's be real, it was totally the technical barriers but they had to tack on something else so they didn't look like complete fucking idiots. Although IMO this just makes it worse... """abuse and harassment""" has to be the gayest reason to shut down something, ever.
