The NBA Thread

I’ve always joked that playing NBA Jam on the Sega Genesis is a much better worth of your time than watching the NBA Finals in current day. If anything, aside from the fans you see on television, I don’t know who would root for the Celtics or the Warriors.

NBA Jam was great but I loved NBA Street even more.

Edit: It looks like Golden State Warriors won the championship. Guess I shouldn't be surprised but I would had liked Dallas to be champions.

Same. NBA Street Vol. 2 had a great aesthetic to it. Though, it’s a real shame we’ll never have another great game like that again.

BOOOOOORING.

Was pulling for the Celtics just to see Al Horford get a ring but Jesus fucking Christ, the game is barely watchable with all the isolation and bricked shots.

Europeans couldn't take this league over any sooner.

Stephen Curry wins his first ever Finals MVP after winning four rings and two MVP awards with the Warriors.

Also, Colin Cowherd predicts that the Warriors team style will be the future for what new talent and teams will try to duplicate in the years to come:

Not much of a bold prediction. There are teams still trying to copycat the super-team formula after the Warriors success with KD. Might not happen right away, but a few teams will take the chance.

One of the things I've noticed about the NBA is that they can have a 7 game series, but every game is a blowout.

The problem with the NBA Finals is that every game was won by 10+ points, and it wasn't like the game was close late and then the winner pulled away.

I don't know; it just felt like there were a lot more blowouts this year (and the past couple years) than usual.

Watching live reactions to the draft, my people cant shut up about Kai Sotto for 5 seconds. Can't blame them, imagine having the average height of 5'6 and being obssesed with Basketball.

If he gets drafted by the Kings because of Jimmy Alapag im going to laugh and cry myself to the toilet.

The average height of a male from the Philippines is 5’4”.

The Philippines is one of the shortest countries in the world.

Never heard of this dude so looked him up...

He's not NBA ready, he's barely NBL ready where he is playing. His biggest asset is his defensive timing from what I can see, but I'd have to watch full games to see if he actually has a nose for defensive or its because he is playing low caliber players who don't have the ability to change pace to throw off defenders.
What will really keep him out the nba is he can't shoot for shit, he's slow and unathletic, and he plays a very old style ball that would fit the 70s but not today's game.

I don't think international audiences (or even national audiences *cough Jeremy Linn*) really understand that vast amounts of talent that don't make it to the league and have a poor judgement of how good a player really is.

Yeesh, i'm probably bad a gauging heights since I always forget that my mom is 5'2 and not 5'4. Also doesnt help that as a middle class guy who went to private schools, I tend to see taller than average people more often especially at school, but even I'm still the tallest or 2nd tallest in school/community standing at a whopping 6ft flat.

Admitedly I havent seen much of his play but it seems like most sensible people feel very torn with everything about him with all of those people agreeing that he would be at best an undrafted project whose ceiling seems to be a competent bench player. NBL stats seem to indicate that he seems to the potential of having a soft touch yet understandably it may be due to his limited minutes.

The painful amd obvious reason why teams would want him is the increased fan support from the massive Filipino community once they learn that, for the first time in NBA history, an actual homegrown, full-blooded Filipino plays for them instead of another half-Filipino from the USA who has American dad. People really cannot comprehend the absolute frenzy we Filipinos have about this fucking sport to the point that they could use it as a metaphor when it comes to our socio-political incompetency (kinda like a modern version of the Parable of The Mountain Bike: https://correctphilippines.org/mountain_bike/)

Speaking of centers, Rudy Tabootie Gobert goin to the Timbs. Cant wait to see him play with KAT. I knew the team will go sour once Ingles left, dude was a great glue guy.

Aye I saw the Rudy trade. Some people are marking it as a win for the Jazz but they've basically just showed the league they are out of any contention for 3-5 years. Timbs gave up a few prospectives and PBev. But Jazz just gave away their entire defense and PBev is a great solo defender, but not a team defender.
Timbs on the other hand gain a real paint defensive anchor, something they've never had in Kat, and the rest of the team have showed real defensive promise around the perimeter. Kat is also decent as a perimeter defender so pushing him to a big PF Wing role seems like it might work with Rudy. Basically the Timbs get even more defense in a position they need it, and Rudy gains a team that can defend and score without him... which actually really frees him up to roll to the basket on offense and, well concentrate on the things he is actually dangerous at, and surrounded by a team that will cover for his shooting.
I know Rudy has a poor perimeter defense aire about him, but I think most of that has to do with the teams absolute shit play on the defensive end. He can't be everywhere at once, but the Jazz required it of him.

I agree that the Jazz have effectively shown the league that they are not contenders for the next few years. However, I think their trade with the Timberwolves was a smart move. They got rid of an overpaid player in Derrick Favors and gained some much-needed draft picks and young players. In addition, they freed up cap space to sign other free agents in the future. Overall, I think this was a good move for the Jazz long-term.
