There once was a time, in 2011, where the Dallas Mavericks Basketball team and the Texas Rangers Baseball team where looking to be on the top of their game. The Mavericks won the finals of course, and with the Texas Rangers making it to the World Series finals, many Dallas-Fort Worth dwellers were hopefully to see 2 championships within the same year for the first time ever. The Texas Rangers would go on to choke in one of the most heartbreaking losses (or miraculous victories to most people) put to sports film.

With the Texas Rangers winning the 2023 world series, we have a similar situation just flipped. I'm not going to say that it's a guarantee that the Mavericks will choke, but there is a precedent, and if it does happen I might actually start to believe in curses.

I don't think I've ever seen a less involved crowd for a playoff game than Celtics fans were in the Pacers series. Will they wake up for the finals? Celtics fans have a long reputation as being kind of elitist, yuppie scum compared to the other local teams. Sure looked that way vs. the Pacers.

Also, parking in Boston around Government Center these days is a nightmare, Lovecraft crossed with Kafka. It is insane that the old City Hall garage was not replaced when it collapsed. The current chink mayor is basically who /r/fuckcars would elect. I'd probably turn down tickets if I was gifted them at this point, the aggravation factor is that bad. I guess you could park in the subway garage in Cambridge and use the Orange (or is it the Red?) Line into North Station, except for the fact that a million other people will probably have the same idea.

This Celtics teams seems to play up or down to their opponent's level, so I can definitely see this. Kind of a hard team to figure out. But if the Mavericks team that was leading the T-Wolves by 25 to 30 points for most of last night's game shows up I doubt the Celtics will do much but fold.

I gotta think Mavericks in 6, sigh.

silver should fix the games to make them closer, especially during the playoffs
playoffs are fucking boring this year
Lakers didn't get their patented Lakers whistle until game 5 and then they just kept bricking every free throw.

That was the series Silver really wanted to extend but sometimes the refs just can't save them.

Anyway I expect Celtics in 5 or 6. It's going to be a game of offense though since Celtics aren't really set up to defend Luka/Kyrie lobs and Mavs aren't set up to defend a 5-out with amazing 3 point shooters. Wouldn't be surprised if the combined point totals for both teams break records.

I almost never use Redd*t in the last years other than for tech support. This proves that no one should even do that.

So yeah what happened to Hardaway? He went from being the third scorer in 50 games to unplayable.

Timmy Jr can’t make shots like he used to and takes dumb shots. Also, less touches for Luka or Kyrie is bad, especially when those two can actually create shots for others. Jaden Hardy being a solid bench sparkplug also limits Tim’s minutes.

Mavericks vs. Celtics could actually be the most competitive Finals matchup we’ve seen in recent memory. Though, there’s no doubt Boston will end up winning it.
God I hope not, if only because I was going to start listening to Bill Simmons again, and that man's torture is hilarious every time.

So what would be more interesting overall, A Celtics or Mavericks win?
Mavericks would be a real storybook win. They were never expected to be here, whereas the Celtics have been favourites or close to it for years now. Besides, the Celtics have enough championships, although I do relish the idea of them passing up the Lakers again. However they are a boring team to watch and their players have boring personalities.

Luka is a real hothead and Kyrie is an out and out weirdo by sports standards. It would also be kinda interesting that both Mavs championships were led by white European players. I hope the Mavs win.

Fired from ESPN, made his own sports/pop culture journo site, made lotsots of money selling it and the podcast network to Spotify, doesn't write anymore, generally disconnected from reality, still cheats at Guess the Lines with Sal.
I stopped listening to him around the time he left ESPN. I tried giving The Ringer a try but it ended up being woke Grantland without the talent, plus around that time Bill was giving some retarded takes that soured me on him.

I remember reading his stuff way back in high school, and every now and then go back and read random articles from his archive. Tuned out after The Ringer as well, too much focus on pop culture bullshit. Every now and then this quote from his 2003 Draft Diary gets posted on Reddit and causes mass butthurt.

I don't have the time for podcasts that I used to, but Guess the Lines is still fun, especially with Bill and Sal's misery. I'd suggest trying to give his Finals coverage a listen just to see him be either elated, coping, or in complete denial. RIP the BS Report, that was some good times. I mean, look at this face from when Boston lost to Golden State and tell me it's not hilarious: FxWBVEbWYAIraKK-832x447.jpeg

If the Mavs win Luka and Kyrie could get some confidence and then they could both start saying crazy shit in interviews. That'd be the most fun result from this.

Celtics are just a team built by analytics that stick to the gameplan. Nothing too interesting here.

With game one tomorrow, I'm expecting Brown + White catching fire in the first half but Luka and the extras will stoke the flames in the second half and steal it in Boston.
