Coaching contracts are, afiak, fully guaranteed 99% of the time and there is nothing legacy owners (where the team is their whole income stream) are more allergic to doing than paying someone to sit on the couch. It's why the Bears keep getting stuck in this cycle where they pair a highly-drafted rookie QB with an obvious lame duck head coach, sabotage his development, and then make him learn a whole new offense (with a coach who may think he's ill-suited for the offense he wants to run), QB doesn't develop, have to draft a new one, etc, etc, etc.

Remember that this team is currently run by Virginia's 2nd choice to run the team (first son already died on her), and his job before that was managing their ticketing office, because counting good is pretty much all he could be counted on.
What he is not, and will never be, good at is properly evaluating coaching talent, and that is why Chicago's best outcome is the McKaskey brood squabbles over who gets to actually call shots once the old bat finally, finally dies, and they're forced to sell the team, Broncos-style.

And I dont mean to be "that guy" but there were at least half a dozen missed holding calls several of which where it looked like the Bears lineman had the pass rusher in a fucking head lock. They didnt want the Lions to run away with it like they have been the past few weeks, the NFL wanted a competitive game. That was something where it’s obvious on plays where Williams is a running QB and gets like 20 yards when you see an offensive lineman drags a defender to the ground. Or the edge rusher getting obviously held as Caleb throws a pass in a broken play for a first down.

The whole coaching situation in the NFL is absurd. I forget if it was last season or the season before, but Goodell sent NFL owners a letter highlighting that owners were collectively paying $870M to coaches who were no longer on staff for the team who gave them the contract. All the gambling and streaming money has allowed owners to lose their minds with coaches. Some of them are losing their minds with who they hire too.

Thinking of Urban Meyer's NFL tenure will never not make me laugh.
