The most threatening thing is injuries, really. I'm sure most GMs and coaches take a franchise tanking and rebuilding into account when considering who's good and who's not.
Yeah but the problem is that the players who are trying to keep their job are going to show they are good enough by winning, which essentially ruins the tank. The idea of tanking for a good draft is a concept really only known to fans. Anyone on a coaching staff, back room office, or NFL squad who is looking to tank will be let go and justifiably so

Of course the players aren't in on it. They'll always play as hard as they can, whether it's trying to stick around for the rebuild or get on some other team. Coaches as well.

FO is who calls the shots though, and that's where you get stuck with fucking Geno as your QB.

Rashaad probably gonna lose a limb on the turf.
Penny's going to break his elbow walking the 30 feet from his front door to his car, let's be honest here.
I was hyped about drafting Walker but he's also already on IR and proving our post-Marshawn RB curse true.

tbf they tried getting Drew Lock as a potential upgrade (upgrade on Geno smith, not saying he is any good). The issue with the QB position that I have noticed after watching the NFL for over 20 years is this. There are maybe 5 people on the planet at any time who can play the QB position amazing. There are another 5 who can play the position really well. And there are 5-10 who can play it at a decent enough level. That's it, no more. So at the least, there are 12 teams without a good QB and there isn't much you can do about that as a team. Its why Minnesota keep signing Kirk Cousins despite him being decent. There isn't anybody better that they can realistically get. So when Russell decided he wanted out, idk why the owners didn't try and keep him instead of Pete, but the front office really was struggling to find a replacement because it takes a long time to find a franchise QB

Lock was like the freebie they just threw in with their draft picks. I strongly doubt the Seahawks expected him to do anything.

Pete's trying to pull a Jimmy Johnson with the complete tank rebuild and develop.

Probably expected him to be better than Geno Smith

That doesn't work anymore. Jimmy Johnson revolutionized the draft and made it something worth paying attention to all the way to the last pick. Now every team does that, especially after Al Davis died.

Schneider absolutely thought he had swindled the league with Lock and is inwardly seething right now. This man wanted to draft him in 2019 and still thought he was an uncut gem this spring.
Pete, I dunno. Geno's basically his ideal QB, doesn't do shit but hand it off in RPO plays.

Yeah but its either that or he walks for free. Sometimes getting a few shitty draft pics is better than nothing
But he wasn't in danger of walking free. Dude still had a full year on his rookie contract. If the Saints wanted, they could have sat him for the year if he wasn't willing to play, or keep him till a good offer comes a long. There was no real reason to literally just give him away.

You get him for another year and then he walks for free. Or you trade him now and maybe get something. Tough call tbh

But even if we accept they had to trade him now (they didn't, they can trade him at any point prior to the trade deadline), they could have easily gotten more for him, considering he's one the best Cornerbacks, and probably one of the top 3 nickels, in the league. They could have at least found an AFC team to trade him to. This deal makes no sense under any calculation.

We're bringing the running game back baby! And the wishbone triple option.
being a run-heavy team while also having a nutjob in charge of strength and conditioning is a recipe for pain, which is exactly where I will live this fall.

Saints safety Marcus Maye has been arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm. Fucking moron.
Jesus FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKK!
Now that's who you should have traded to the Eagles for table scraps

Season tickets should include a gym membership to this insane guys gym. If you are gonna go through the pain, might as well be strong enough to endure it too

No idea why the Chargers are signing Sony Michel. Guess another running back helps.

I think someone like Sony could really benefit from the type of offense the Chargers run. I don't recall the Rams or Patriots using him all that much in the passing game when that was the extra fold that made him so good in college, unless his hands just totally dropped off.

If there's ever a part of the team that can benefit from just another guy, it's the RB room. I'm sure he'll get you 3 yards dependably enough.
This is entirely true. Running backs can be amazing with recognition of space and potential to catch screen passes and short routes but there are some plays where they just have to take the ball and run into 300 pound men who are trying to tackle them. And getting another guy who's entire job is to just run into them all season so the star doesn't have to is very beneficial
