Baker requested the release since he was 3rd on the depth chart but he was apparently well-liked in the Panthers locker room. After seeing Garoppolo go down with the 49ers having a shot to do something in the playoffs, it makes sense and it's where I think he ends up
I'm having a hard time reconciling him being made 3rd string behind Darnold and Walker if he wasn't a disruption. It's not like he is a 3rd behind Lance and Jimmy Grapes.

Well, he's just been bad. There have been 521 starting QB's since QBR became a stat in 2006. Baker's QBR this year is 18.2. The worst is Jimmy Clausen's 13.8. I didn't see that Shanahan said that the 49ers weren't interested so there goes that potential landing spot

While I don't have much faith in Baker Mayfield the good news is that you could practically put a scarecrow at QB on the 49er's and the team would probably still be mostly fine.

lol @ Clausen. Why did anyone think he could be a NFL QB? And I haven't seen Shanahan say anything myself. The talking heads are the ones that put Mayfield in SF the minute he was released.

Mayfield got claimed by the Rams. Also it appears now that Jimmy G may return this season for the Niners as it's being reported that he won't need surgery; still probably at least 7 weeks away from coming back, however.

The only way Jimmy G is back this season is if Purdy goes on a run that makes Big Dick Nick look like some chump. The math works out that a NFC championship game is his earliest return.
This is officially the Seahawks' division to lose (please get better defense holy fucking shit)

The announcers were talking about how McVey coincidentally was on the same flight as Mayfield when flying to the combine. They chatted football the whole time. Apparently McVey liked him, but they already had Goff and wasn't QB needy. And Mayfield went to Cleveland anyway.

Baker is still pretty young, and if the Rams can turn things around for next year, then they could be one dangerous team.

Not sure if Baker will stay with the Rams past this year. The Rams have already got their quarterback. If Baker does well in the position, he make seek a team were he can start.
In a hilarious twist, I really would not be surprised if the Texans pick him up. The great Browns-Texans QB swap with extra steps.

The QBs in the upcoming draft class are all major coin flips so any team taking one is going to want a reliable backup like Baker.

They'll have to get in line. Probably a lot a teams will be looking for QBs come next year. The Saints, for example. At this point, they'd probably beg Baker to walk through the door.

Free agent QBs are crazy next year though.

Brissett's the big one. Guy has been playing amazing this year and will be on the prowl for a bag. Jimmy G has it in his contract that he can't be franchised tagged, so he's probably looking for who gives him the biggest payday as well.

I'd take either of them over Baker. Then you've got Cooper Rush, Zappe and Minshew around too, who are...worse than Baker but whatever.

Also I'm not sure what's going on with the Saints. Jameis must have pissed someone off.

There's also the potential of Lamar Jackson not getting that contract he wants.

If the Panthers players liked him but he was still 3rd on the depth chart there's a good chance the Browns Couched him trying to will that team to a second straight playoff berth. His shoulder has to be fucked and his mechanics fucked with it. I was busy Thursday so I missed his comeback against the Lawl Vegas Raiders so I couldn't see how well he threw the ball.

There's also the potential of Lamar Jackson not getting that contract he wants.

Baltimore will probably tag him once, possibly twice to see if he's worth paying, or hope he stops listening to his broke ass mama about how an NFL contract works and stop believing he deserves top 3 money when he has one playoff win. By this time in Flacco's career he had been to TWO AFC championship games and his play each year in the playoffs got better. Flacco got that dogshit contract because he went on a 11 TD tear and a super bowl MVP. While it was a shit contract, he got us to the promised land, and after rebuilding with Kubiak as OC, he was looking like the guy who won that super bowl again too.

Lamar's trying to get a fully guaranteed contract and he's gotten worse with each passing year since getting the regular season MVP, including injuries in two consecutive seasons. He has an awful habit of showing his body language when shit doesn't go the way he wants it and his play starts to suffer. He's also responding to fucking fans on Twitter like a petulant child which should have the owner squinting at Harbaugh and wondering who really coached that team to a super bowl in 2012. If Lamar doesn't know better when it comes to doing stupid shit like that towards fans, it should have the owner wondering how much preferential treatment Lamar is getting from the coaching staff. Or who the fuck is leading this team because I guarantee no player would have been tweeting shit at fans like that when Ray, Ed and Suggs were there.
