I think they didn't have much of an opportunity to deal him tbh. Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield were the first 2 who needed to drop before anything could happen. The Bears fucked up by not having a few trade partners ready to go in case they didn't get Mayfield or Cousins. Now they are pretty fucked with Fields even if they can take advantage of the Chargers cap hit (yet again).

A lot of players have to have this ego in order to make it this far. Unless you are just an unreal talent, any doubt that you might not be good enough can just destroy you. There is so much competition to get into the league that you have to be an ego maniac in order to take an NFL talent and make it in the league

It works to their detriment pretty often too. If you are any good AT ALL you can have a long, lucrative career as a backup QB. Teams are still fucking signing Peterman and he should be banned from ever touching a football.

Matt Corral essentially ghosted the Patriots because he wanted the starting job and now he's in the UFL. That's not a good career move.
 
I can’t find it again now that I’m looking for it, but I did get a laugh out of some morons accusing the Falcons of being racist for getting Cousins rather than Fields, or drafting a new (Black) QB. No points for guessing what demographic said morons are from.

They’ll give anyone a podcast these days.
 
Justin Fields has been traded to the Steelers for a 6th rounder (could end up as a 4th rounder based on playing time) in 2025.

I mean, 1 Superbowl in 17 years, with an argument to be made that he won it with the previous coaches team considering it was 2008 (remember, Tomlin only took the reigns in 07), and beyond that the Steelers have been a team that's always just been middle of the pack. The Steelers under Tomlin have just been spinning their wheels for years now.

That said, The Standard is The Standard - Tomlin will somehow get a record over .500, only to get btfo'd in the wildcard, and will likely be employed until his deal runs out or the sun dies.

I hate that you're most likely right.

However, I do feel that most GMs saw Fields and realized "hey, he's just not that good." He has no capability to make anything more than one read before trying to run (granted, the Bears OL until last year was pretty fucking pathetic), he is very fumble-prone, and his record speaks for itself. Who would want to give up more than a can of Stick-Um for a guy with his track record? I feel Poles was trying to massage something more out of potential suitors, but the market dictated that Fields isn't very well-regarded and the Steelers immediately said that Justin will not be competing for the starting spot, he's strictly a backup.

In defense of the Steelers-Field trade, and Fields, I don't think this was that bad from Pittsburgh's perspective.

While you'd obviously like to have your picks, the earlier the better, at most they gave up a 4th rounder for him (the stipulation on that pick is if Fields takes at least 51% of the snaps or more for the Steelers, which is definitely possible.) They probably wouldn't have done much with the pick anyway, to be honest.

Wilson's on a one-year deal; if he sucks he's on the bench for cheap and at least you can take a shot in seeing if Fields just needed a change of scenery to see if he can be a viable NFL quarterback (not saying great, just something you can work with even if that means an upper-tier back up.) Barring injury I think Wilson gets to play at least enough of the year to make it just a 6th rounder going back to Chicago.

I think that ultimately it'll be one of those trades no one cares about in three years as whatever pick goes to Chicago probably won't amount to much, and Fields can be justified by the Steelers as one of many QBs throughout the league that was "worth taking a chance just to see if any of that potential might be there."

Tomlin = Doc Rivers, both are coasting off a title won in 2008.

Oh yeah, he's athletic as fuck and when his running game was on, he was damn electric to watch. But when it came time to pass the ball, if his first read was covered, he had no chance.

He's basically what everyone was saying that Lamar Jackson would become.
