It used to be that Rookie QB’s needed a few years of riding the bench to truly absorb the intricacies of a NFL playbook and to be able to perform.

These days, I’m ready to call a guy a bust if he can’t play perform as a Rookie QB in a starting role.

Why ? Because NFL playbooks have been dumbed down to the level that low IQ nigger QBs can do their whole “1 read and if it ain’t wide open, run”.

Not to mention how soft coverages have to play by nature. Yards are the most useless stat there is.

So yeah, if you can’t even be decent and consistent with this much watered down complexity and degree of difficulty then there’s nothing to see here.

Fields is a bust. Russ with all of his cooking shit is still a midget QB who gets figured out halfway through the season because all of this “off platform” shit is just QBs running around trying to make something happen (which is entirely predictable).

I don't believe there were many teams clamoring for someone that is 10-28
Kirk Cousins, Gardner Minshew, Sam Darnold, Tyrod Taylor, Jacoby Brissett, Jimmy G, and Mac Jones all made moves during this. There could have been a market for something like a 4th or 5th rounder if played right.

However, I do feel that most GMs saw Fields and realized "hey, he's just not that good." He has no capability to make anything more than one read before trying to run (granted, the Bears OL until last year was pretty fucking pathetic), he is very fumble-prone, and his record speaks for itself. Who would want to give up more than a can of Stick-Um for a guy with his track record? I feel Poles was trying to massage something more out of potential suitors, but the market dictated that Fields isn't very well-regarded and the Steelers immediately said that Justin will not be competing for the starting spot, he's strictly a backup.
We will probably never know but if the Bears GM was shopping him as a first round pick and stupidly believing the pundits, then he was an idiot. But he could have been shopping him around as a good back up qb. If Mac jones went for a 6th round pick this year, I think Fields could have maybe gone for a 5th round. If he's a back up, then you would want him to be a bridge until the starter gets healthy again. Fields can do that better than Mac Jones imo

I can’t find it again now that I’m looking for it, but I did get a laugh out of some morons accusing the Falcons of being racist for getting Cousins rather than Fields, or drafting a new (Black) QB. No points for guessing what demographic said morons are from.

They’ll give anyone a podcast these days.
There's always a contingent of Falcons fans extremely butthurt that the blackest city was robbed of Vick, it's one of the reasons Matt Ryan spent so long being criminally underrated despite being their best QB in team history.
That city didn't deserve him and I was happy when he skipped town in response to them trying to replace him with a serial rapist, even if he played like ass for the Colts.

I'm getting Fields Defense Force'd by my friend from Oregon who's a Seahawks fan. I am blind sided.
Oregon is a shithole, much like Da Bears are. I would know, born into both.

It doesn't matter who Chicago signs or drafts at QB. The culture of the franchise will ensure their middling, and rapid, demise. Thats probably why Jay Cutler did as well as he did, the dude didn't give a flying fuck.

which is hilarious because Sam Howell was a better get for us to replace Drew Lock than Fields would have ever been.
I mean, not by much, but at least Howell can progress through his reads.

Why is this happening? I get Seattle was looking at him but why try to gaslight me, a bears fan who hates the bears, into believing he's a top half of the league starter

To paraphrase Perna - the Steelers QB Competition is between Russel Wilson and a younger, less accurate Russel Wilson.

I get this feeling the Steelers Office are trying to see if a losing season is what they need to get rid of Tomlin. Cause y'know, they can't just fire anyone - look how long it took to get rid of Matt Canada...

Now that you mention it, this is the final year of Tomlin's current contract, and waiting until he doesn't have to pay coaches to not coach is standard with Art. Though both camps also repeatedly insisted they want to get an extension done before the season starts. That's part of why it took until this year for Canada to get fired, he was on the last year of his deal.

The Steelers should have pulled the trigger on Tomlin after the collapse they had at the end of the 2020 season IMO. They really are in a no win situation, do you stick with the guy who never had a losing season but who's last championship came 16 years ago and the ceiling for the team now seems to be going 10-7/9-8 and lose in the wild card round?

You can fire Tomlin but the grass is not always greener. You get the next hire wrong, you could end up with seasons that end 5-12, 4-13 consistently and you make a 10-7 season and a loss in the wild card round seem like a super bowl appearance

Rooney's in a pickle if he dumps Tomlin. What other black coach is going to produce like he has. His own policy will bite him in the ass.
