It's pretty funny how having his dad's name made Marvin Harrison Jr. catapult to the top of the list of WR prospects this year almost automatically. So with Ladd, Cornelius Johnson, and Jerry Rice's son, Chargers are going 17-0 and winning the superb owl .
Same thing pretty much happened to Eli Manning in 04. If his last name was something other then Manning then I don't think he's considered one of the top qb prospects in that class. It's pretty funny how having his dad's name made Marvin Harrison Jr. catapult to the top of the list of WR prospects this year almost automatically.
Sure, he's also a better WR than Brenden Rice is, but if he wasn't literally named Marvin Harrison there'd be more debate among the media about which WR goes off the board first, instead of that only really happening in the last few weeks when all the talking heads are thoroughly bored talking about the consensus top prospects.
Let's be real, Eli's marketable last name and two fluke playoff runs are going to put him in the Hall of Fame in a few years when he statistically does not merit inclusion.Same thing pretty much happened to Eli Manning in 04. You also have to consider Eli is pretty charismatic and still doing commercials and the media circuit. This matters for HOF voters. TO got snubbed for a while, AB has a borderline case but will absolutely never get in, etc. The HOF is supposed to only consider on-field performance but we all know that's not true.Let's be real, Eli's marketable last name and two fluke playoff runs are going to put him in the Hall of Fame in a few years when he statistically does not merit inclusion.
The cope I eternally tell myself is that they aren't as bad as baseball HOF voters but it's really sorting out different degrees of fucking awfulYou also have to consider Eli is pretty charismatic and still doing commercials and the media circuit. It's an okay middle ground between the baseball hall of fame full of grumpy old heads and the basketball hall of fame who just let everyone in.The cope I eternally tell myself is that they aren't as bad as baseball HOF voters but it's really sorting out different degrees of fucking awful
The media giving Rodgers the Curt Schilling treatment would be the fastest thing to rob the HOF of any legitimacy. It's an okay middle ground between the baseball hall of fame full of grumpy old heads and the basketball hall of fame who just let everyone in.
Next test will the Rodgers, I guess, who should be first ballot. But also he's openly hostile towards the media and they might not want to give him podium time.
I wonder whats going to happen with Shedeur Sanders. He has his dad's name recognition but I think people are slowly starting to realize Deion Sanders is fucking insane, hence all the transfers out of Colorado. I think this next season is going to expose just how crazy Deion actually is, and I wonder if that would effect his draft stock. If I were a team I wouldn't want the Lavar Ball of football hanging around my locker room constantly, which could be a reality should he only win 4 games again this year with them moving to the Big 12.Same thing pretty much happened to Eli Manning in 04. Teams would be looking more towards how he acts rather than how his dad acts.I wonder whats going to happen with Shedeur Sanders. The part of me that loves to watch football disasters is hoping that some desperate team run by idiots will hire Deion and draft his son after firing their coach on Black Monday next year, unfortunately the Bears already got to draft Caleb so they're out of the running even when Eberflus proves he's a lame duck this fall.I wonder whats going to happen with Shedeur Sanders. You can just say the Cowboys. A team that's mysteriously not giving extensions to their HC or QB.some desperate team run by idiots
It's not a mystery. After catching a ton of shit in the late 90's/early 00's, Jerry waits until the last year of a contract before he makes a decision. You can just say the Cowboys. A team that's mysteriously not giving extensions to their HC or QB.
I hadn't heard about this so I looked it up. Holy smokes, the school is hemorhaging players. It's an exodus. They're losing about 30 and bringing in 8.I wonder whats going to happen with Shedeur Sanders. Usually it takes about 4 years for a coach to truly turn theit colleges football program into their own but the new transfer portal and NIL rules have completely obliterated that school of thought. In the coming years were going to start seeing more one year wonder coaches because you can essentially buy a good team.I hadn't heard about this so I looked it up. I knew Sanders was a nut, but I thought he'd be able to run a COMPETENT football program at the very least. And it's only his 2nd year.
If you're going to be a hardass coach, then you have to at least be WINNING. People tolerate your abrasiveness because it's backed up with success. "Primetime" apparently decided to come in there, be a dick and still not succeed.
Some players at Colorado have said that he's basically never there except for game day or if he needs to do something for a photo op. He's more of an absentee coach than a hardass coach. If you're going to be a hardass coach, then you have to at least be WINNING. People tolerate your abrasiveness because it's backed up with success. I read a story in which a player at CU mentioned how they went to a team meeting and Deion didn't show up, and Deion was the one who set the meeting up to begin with. I can't see how this doesn't end in disaster. Some players at Colorado have said that he's basically never there except for game day or if he needs to do something for a photo op. Fire everyone. Sell the team. Been saying it for years. So basically, you're saying that they should have just done everybody a favor and sold the fucking team. Seriously, a lot of this shit should have been apparent before they even bought the land.
As a fan I'd rather build a team first and then try to slot a NEW QB in rather then what the team tried to do with Jones (get the qb first and then fail to build a competent team around him.)The Giants didn't go full retard and draft another QB. I am happy
They also looked at what happened in GB with Jordan Love and in KC with Mahomes and thought "we can do that!" even though both of those came from unique and hard to replicate circumstances. Love was drafted behind 4x (!!!) MVP Rodgers who was consistently throwing for 40+ touchdowns with single digit interceptions. On top of that both of them (Mahomes and Love) had very smart offensively minded coaches who taught them and developed them behind the main starter. Atlanta doesn't have nearly the stability of either of those franchises, nor does it have an offensively minded HC. Why they decided to forgo pass rush (something they've been lacking at for almost 10 years) for a complete gamble is beyond me.They're old guys who still think it's the 1980s and if you sit a guy long enough he'll magically become Steve Young. Dude's name is Penis so he's guaranteed to fail.
