Just a 5th rounder for Deebo Samuel seems crazy cheap to me. How badly did he piss of Kyle Shannahan? Is he THAT big of a diva? Hell the steelers were able to get a 3rd AND a 5th for Antonio Brown. Seems like SF wanted him gone BAD!

There's something behind the scenes here. Maybe Deebo wanted such a large contract that it threw off other teams? Maybe people are just looking at the draft to get a cheaper option? Could be a number of things

Either Shannahan fucking HATES him, or they’re trying to free up a LOT of cap space for Purdy’s first Big Boy Contract.
His numbers have fallen off since his extension and he's wanted out of SF for a while. The 9ers are eating a $31.5M dead cap hit to get rid of him. The fact that they could only get a 5th for him tells you what the rest of the league thinks about where he's at in his career.

I'm betting he's absolute cancer in the locker room.

Motherfucker got to play in 2 Superbowls, got injured at the worst possible times, fought with teamates, and STILL acted like he was the victim? Fuck outta here Doorbell Samuel.

Shanny will somehow use that 5th rounder to get another franchise receiver, because that's what he does.

No doubt. I think teams are starting to realize that WR are like RBs. If they aren't a top 3 in the league, they aren't worth the headache and paying them all that money. At this point, a decent to good WR can just be run into the ground for their rookie contract, and then you could franchise tag them for a year, if they still have a lot left in the tank, and then release them or trade them

Brown had posted over 1k passing yards for the preceding six seasons when Pittsburgh traded him, and only missed a handful of games.
Deebo struggled to post over 1k combined yards the last 3 years, has never played a full season, and his really great 2021 season is looking more and more like an outlier. Plus the dude wants WR2+ money on his next contract, the Niners have to pay Purdy soon, and Deebo's failure to step up once Aiyuk went down last year makes it pretty apparent his current ceiling is being a really good gadget player.

TBH this trade is probably a win-win. McLaurin is more durable than Aiyuk is, he'll draw attention from opposing secondaries more reliably for Deebo to do his thing, and the Niners have been pulling some absolute bullshit with their 5th round picks the last few drafts.

I'm curious to see what path Worthy takes.

Top receivers, and corners for that matter, do seem to be coming out of college NFL ready at higher rates. While Henry and Barkley are certainly special talents, they've shown just how much you can run in the modern NFL. Other guys have flashed as well like Jacobs, Taylor, and Bijan. You have to wonder what they'd do on better teams.

One thing you consistently head from ex-players and team sources is that o line development in college is way down. How much is that contributing to the poor QB play? Rookie qbs are getting thrown to the wolves behind bad lines. It seems like now might be the time to lean on the run and try to get ahead of everyone else.

And the O Line and D line are how you win football games. An average running back can look amazing behind a good O Line and a decent QB can look unreal if given enough time. I think teams are starting to realize that WRs can develop a route if given enough time

Brad Holmes and the Detroit lions knew this. Thats why they started building in the trenches first with Sewell, then took ARSB in the 4th and it worked out perfectly. It probably helped that they had a head start already having Decker and Ragnow but regardless, they were able to make Jared Goff look like an MVP candidate. All without having your stereotypical No.1 6'3" 210 X wide receiver.

Honestly that was the most annoying thing about the early rebuild for me, were all those pundits, talking heads and retards out there comparing how many touchdowns Jamaar Chase had Vs. Penei Sewell in their rookie season where the Bengals went to the SB and lost. Fast forward to now and the Bungals are back to being the bungals and the Lions have set their team up to make super bowl runs for AT LEAST the next 2 or 3 years.

Slay was released. It's a shame, but I never expected him to be around next season. He was coming out of every other game. He's still got the skills, but his body isn't able and we have a crop of young corners on the come up. He was instrumental in the development of the next generation and his family integrated into the city. I hope they land in good situation and Slay can go out gracefully.

I LOVED Big Play Slay when he was in Detroit. When he was traded thats when I officially knew the Lions were fucked under Patricia regime, I always hated how they traded him away for pennies, but Im glad he was able to get a ring. Id be over the moon if the Lions brought him back on a one year deal to mentor the young CBs the lions have and provide depth. Maybe thats too much to hope for but one can dream.

He talked about how he'd like to go back to Detroit if he doesn't stay in Philly on the St. Browns' podcast recently.

Honestly kind of against this because it allows even more fuckery. Sure on paper, refs spotting the ball IS less transparent than there being some neutral digital method to determine where the ball actually should be, the difference is because the refs aren't cold thinking machines (yet), you can't steal a 1st down as reliably when there's near 360 degree coverage of the game and replay assisted challenges.
The only reason to push it is for more league fuckery for rigging games.
Do this guy's videos always descend into politisperging?
Yeah, he left all gas no brakes because he wanted to be a serious journalist, which worked out except for all the sexual assaults he got accused of.

I thought the last day to franchise tag a player and the day free agency starts were in the same week. I was wrong.

Tagging starts March 4, Free Agency on March 12, apparently.

This shit is confusing sometimes.

2k Sa gets a $40M contract extension. Runningbacks league wide rejoice. He gets $36M guarenteed at signing and another $15M in escalators and performance incentives. This was completely unexpected. It appears the Eagles want to reward him for his performance, believe he can stay healthy (we shall see), and are possibly trying to put pressure on the league to pay their RBs and fuck up their cap situations. I will laugh if Taylor sits out another training camp.

How can they do this? Howie is a wizard! It's all going to come do and they're going to end up like the Saints! I'm not contract guru, but a couple things are driving this according to some local insiders and reporters. The first is that they believe in their drafting. They've gotten young and cheap on defense, but that won't last forever. The next is that these are guys who are going to work out and be productive long term. The last reason is a bit more speculative. The new media rights deal is in 2028, right when some current contracts start ballooning into huge cap hits. The estimates are already talking about the cap going up $100M with the new deal.

If not, we're fucked lol. Hurts will be something like a $97M hit alone.

What does Tom Grossi do during the off season?
There is no off season anymore. It goes Super Bowl -> Combine -> Free Agency -> Draft -> OTAs -> break -> Training Camp -> Pres Season - > Opening Kickoff. The NFL wants it to be a year round league. It's why they've turned the draft and combine into spectacles. The independent ecosystems of online content creators need to be one too, so everything is getting covered like never before.
