Yeah the classification "nut" is surprisingly specific. I do kind of wonder why there is that specific protein in hazelnuts. Any time there are these little differences that are enough to trigger a specific allergy it's curious to me, sometimes there doesn't even seem to have been any prior exposure to the allergen.I can eat almonds. Almonds don't give me anaphylactic shock, possibly because they're technically pits from a "drupe" fruit (the same classification of fruit as peaches, plums, and cherries) and not tree nuts per se, though I don't think every tree nut has the same allergy-provoking protein as hazelnuts.

From what I'm reading that would be Castor beans - which are scary as heck because ricin is subsequently scary as heck.

I love all members of the nut family, even the legume pretending to be one.
However all time favorites, roast salted cashews every time, and pine nuts, amazingly tasty.
