The Outer Worlds - Obsidian's new game, like Borderlands meets Fallout: New Vegas

Wait, WHAT!?

This is the first time I've heard of this and I can't find any details online aside from this post.

Well, that's the rumor, anyway. I think it was only brought up on the old SASS forum or the buttes IRC channel.

The story is that while LowT and Emily were engaged and living in Seattle, Emily wanted to fly back home to visit her family, but was held up for a few days in LA. She said it was because she signed some animal rights petition back in college, and somehow ended up on the terrorist watch list. But instead of being detained by the TSA, she was off bangin' Sawyer.

Like I said, it's just a rumor, and I'm probably getting some of the details wrong.

I'm weirdly disappointed with how apathetic I feel towards this game. When it was leaked a while back that Cain and Boyarsky were leading a new project I thought I'd be excited for it once they finally announced it, but so far nothing about it has caught my interest. It looks like every game Obsidian has released since New Vegas: serviceable and underwhelming.

I see after all these years they still make scary faces. It's pretty amazing for a company to produce such consistent level of strange face expressions.

I wonder if the Microsoft Store version is Crossbuy with the Xbox One at least. If so, this might be the first brand new Digital game I've bought in a while.

It might be, if it ends up on this list:

I'm just going to pirate it until it comes out on steam, honestly. Fuck tencent.
I'll admit, I quite enjoy the MS Store since the UWP apps don't run like ass anymore. Although, between the two, until I get a new GPU, the Xbone would be the main way to play for me.

Looks like you won't need to pirate it any more.

Guns and characters look below average for 2019 but acceptable. What's with the background/environment textures though? They're blurry and extremely low resolution, shit looks like a ps2 game.

Also It's hard to tell because the guy is playing it at like 10 fps but the animations look stiff and jerky too.

Pillars of Eternity was good.

White March as a whole was solid but the base game I thought was, well... serviceable and underwhelming.
The main problems were encounter design and itemization, and the encounters were largely fixed with later patches. But I get your point. I just really loved it. Perhaps in part because they simply don't make them like that anymore. Plus I think Thaos was very underrated as a villain, and the whole "defining your character's past life" thing was neat.

The 3.0 update did a lot to make the mechanics good but the script, pacing, and main plot I thought were still pretty mediocre. Thaos and the Watcher stuff had potential but were undercooked and poorly utilized.

Have to agree to disagree then.

Though to bring it back on topic I do think their writing has been steadily going downhill post Mask of the Betrayer and don't have high hopes for this game's script.

Reviews are out and from what I've seen the reviewers are loving it. Personally I don't know, you can't really trust these big review channels as much as you used to with all their back door sponsorships and that whole Epic debacle left a sour taste in my mouth but I'm thinking of trying it using GamePass.

Like I mentioned in the EGS thread, the game's available through the Microsoft game store and via the XBox Game Pass like d12 mentioned. Except Microsoft's webpage is shitting itself right now and won't let me subscribe to the game pass. I imagine I'm somehow not the only person with the idea of paying a dollar to get Outer Worlds for a month.

[Edit: And of course, right after I post this it finally lets me subscribe.]

They gave out a bunch of keys to Twitch streamers and it's been getting live streamed all day. It looks and plays like a New Vegas mod with a HD patch applied.

Your first two companions are race-swapped Kaylee and Book from Firefly.
