Ouija boards are very strange. I didn't buy into the reputation they'd gained from horror movies and whatnot. Many years ago, I started using one with my brother and some friends on various nights. Something I noted is that the room's atmosphere would usually change. Sometimes it would get cold in the room. After using the board, the hand I used to touch the planchette would be freezing. This also happened to my brother and friend (the 2 people I would most often use the board with). Sometimes the planchette would move slowly, but other times it would move so fast we had to pay very close attention otherwise we'd miss what the "spirit" we were talking to was saying.
One notable experience we had was one late November night, a group of us trekked out to a cabin in the woods for a night of drinking and generally just fucking around. My friend had the board with him, so we decided to use it. We ended up speaking to the spirit of a man who claimed he'd been beaten and hanged by a small mob for a crime that he didn't commit (a sexual assault). I don't remember the exact year he said he died in, but it was the late 1800s. He told us he had been buried in an unmarked spot in those woods.
I say this was notable because, as I recall, this was the only time we used the board and spoke with a spirit that actually sounded like a human being. Every other time we used the board, it seemed like whoever we were communicating with was something else.
Anyway, my attitude toward oujia boards changed as a result of actually using one. I haven't used one for many years now and don't plan on using one again. I do believe if users aren't careful, it's possible to invite things into their lives that they really wouldn't want hanging around.
