I love pickles. Any kind of pickled vegetable is good to me. I grow my own pickling cukes and make my own pickles. Not to toot my own horn, but people love my pickles

and some years if I'm short on cash, I'll just make my friends a jar or two for their birthdays.
I hate sweet pickles though and I never use sugar or pickling spice. Just water, vinegar, salt, fresh dill (which I also grow myself) , dill seed, and garlic. My mouth is watering...I'm gonna go have one now.
EDIT: Oh, and Japanese-style pickled vegetables. I could eat those all day. A great way to make yourself a little treat is to slice up some veggies - cucumber, carrot, cauliflower, daikon - and pack them in a mixture of mirin and red miso paste ( or just the miso paste) for a day or two. Make a layer at the bottom of a jar or bowl, stick your veggies in, layer more paste over the top, stick it in the fridge, wait two days, and enjoy. And of course you can still use the miso to make soup, so everybody wins.
While I'm at it, does anyone else like umeboshi?

I think they're the saltiest thing I've ever eaten in my life, but they're oddly addicting and great for hangovers if you're feeling barfy. Something about the super-salty brine will temper nausea. Anyone?
