The Ramen thread, instant noodles and the like

Got a packet of one of these bad boys but I can't have them until like a week later because of wisdom teeth surgery, fml

If I'm making instant ramen at home I usually do the cheapest cup noodles possible, and if I'm feeling fancy I'll get nissin raoh

Top with a soft boiled egg and its pretty alright.

When I visited Japan I fell in love with the cheap chain Ichiran, their food was fucking delicious and hit the spot at 3 am while hammered. Their instant noodles you can buy off amazon are as good as it gets IMO for ramen in the states, no other local places can compare at all. Since Ichiran is pretty expensive to order off amazon I'll only ever make it when I can prepare a couple soft boiled eggs in mirin/soy sauce and cook up some pork belly to top it with. Those two + some minced garlic will elevate it from pretty damn good to absolutely fantastic.

I distinctly remember seeing that brand of ramen in a Don Quixote in Tokyo. They even sell the toppings to go with your ramen.

Laksa is expensive but goated, so is Raoh..

I am in a country known for their spicy noodles.. Shin is the most popular one, but there are so many brands in South Korea that I could spend hours ranting about it. The convenience stores even have a minibar for you to make noodles and you can sit there and eat them, usually inside or on an outdoor patio.

I do like putting kewpie in my noodles, sometimes I like making budae jjigae which is pretty good.

Basically get spam. sausages, ramen (usually shin lol), gochujang, veggies, tteok, or whatever you got in your fridge and throw it in a pot. It's really good, and you can feed a whole family.
My husband likes to boil shin with milk and a few slices of cheese to make it extra cheesy (yuck)

Since moving I haven't found Sapporo chow mein or miso at any stores by me but that Nissin Raoh tonkatsu is goated

I don't eat a lot of ramen because I don't like soup very much, but when I do I usually like to give it a touch of the hoisin.

This stuff gives the dirt cheapest ramen the same delicious sweetness as the teriyaki beef ones that come in the plastic tray.
Lee Kum Kee is goated. If you have the chance, try Japaghetti, seems right up ur alley.

Top Ramen is garbage. Maruchan, and udon are the best. If you plebs haven't went to a Japanese restaurant and ate udon you're missing out. They fucking load it up with tempora, meat, and veggies. 😋
I'm so lucky I don't live somewhere where maruchan is considered "ramen".. don't they use that as a currency in prison?

I'm a degenerate, I just spent more money then I'd like to admit on limited edition Nissin European Cheese and Curry noodles because all the reviews I've seen say they are crazy delicious. They should arrive late tomorrow and I'll post a review.

How was it?

Holy shit, how have I not seen this thread? Lots of good stuff in here and my faves have mostly been already covered. That said, one of my favorite things to add to packaged ramen are these things.

Add a few of those fish cakes into the water as you start boiling and otherwise make it normally. Top with a ramen egg and some sliced serrano and enjoy.

I don't like super spicy food and a jalepeno will practically put me down. That being said, back in 2011 or so my parents used to stock shin ramen and I just decided to try it one day. It was so hot I couldn't eat it and I still think I couldn't even with the better heat tolerance I have today. Fast forward to today, and I tried some of those shin black beef broth cups. It's good, but the heat is noticibly weak now. It feels a little too obvious that they put the kids gloves on this stuff to market it better now that I see it everywhere with a dozen or so different varieties.
It's not just me, right?

I'm a spice pussy too and they absolutely toned down how spicy that shit is.
