What is even the point. Award categories MUST produce new contemporary winners every year. (Ideally, they'd also stay consistent year to year, but depending on what is being awarded it's not always possible. E.g. lolcows are hard, @Hamplanet Fitness keeps fucking with Julays and Null keeps fucking with the forum categories.)

Plus it's openly dickriding corporations and gives them a free award each! It'd make sense to do the opposite, give "Indie X of the year" awards in categories won by corpo slop.

Games awards are easy to design, just break them up by genre (some gerrymandering is possible here, go with what the devs say the game is). No aspects (best story, best music, etc), because in a literal popularity contest like gaymers' awards are supposed to be, the more naturally popular game is going to sweep most if not all of them.

Categories were suggested and then the best ones voted on/picked I think. I agree though. The categories are dumb.

Sidescrollers, GoonerGate and TRGA are proof that everyone looking for alternatives to the mainstream are going to be scammed no matter what. Even if you agree with what these jackasses say about how the mainstream industry is in a shitty state, they've given way too much evidence to prove they aren't the kind of people you should flock towards for advice, let alone finding alternatives.

Possibly. But the entire point (and the reason for the donations) is that these kinds of shows are allegedly expensive to produce. Even E3 back in the day was notoriously expensive. And having a small online stream isn't going to achieve that. Which is the all the more baffling why TRGA is exactly that, a cheap online stream.

However, people like me miss the days of E3. And to make those happen people have to come together. It's one thing to make a game in your bedroom as a solo dev. But if you want connections, conventions, the party E3 of old, at some point you have to come together. I can make a "based" 90s style game, but I can't make E3 come back. I can't turn up at a convention hall by myself. ...I guess I could, but it would be weird.

It's going to be easy to mock as a grift, and don't get me wrong, this show absolutely appears like a grift. But then the nay sayers are going to make fun of it anyway. Even was E3 was good, people on the internet were taking the piss and complaining. So I'm not going to throw money at them, but I'm not going to tear them down either. E3 only appeared because CES kept treating video games like junk, putting gaming booths in leaky tents behind the porn booths.

Like what the fuck is the criteria for "worst bait n' switch" like no one was baited into playing Concord, that game bombed because everyone knew it would be shit. Its also funny how fucking Helldivers 2 is there yet it won an award in this same show for something good.

Same with how FF7 Rebirth is nominated simultaneously for best Action game and best RPG

I do find it funny Razorfist showed up and threw shade at Astrobot than Astrobot + Its team got nominated for multiple awards.

There's also really stupid awards like Best IP for Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony which like how the fuck are Call of Duty and Minecraft Xbox IP's? Sure Microsoft owns them but they didn't start on the Xbox, they couldn't even put Halo or Gears of War?? Also what really is being awarded here. Same with the best Waifu/Husbando, and best Jiggle physics, it feels like a gooner award to just give shit to Stellar Blade.

Speaking of best jiggle physics, you can tell Craig made a woman present it so they don't get seen as sexist, and its funny how she talks about boobies jiggling as a fine art, like just admit it helps gamers wack their dragon easier. Also that lady won best journalist (whatever that means) and didn't even accept it.

A lot of these award categories are stupid and they couldn't be assed to do stuff like best soundtrack nomination, best DLC (they'd easily one up the game awards for this), and best indie game for example.

Will say I don't know most of these people, but god most of these hosts are really cringe, and the ones I do know like Razorfist, Craig, and AVGN are all washed up while Razor is just aggressively retarded. The Halo composer is probably the most normal guy in the show.

I hate to praise the original Game Awards since it has its problems but the fact they let industry professionals decide looks justified given these votes were done by people who wasted money, especially the gooners who spent boat loads of cash to make sure Eve Stellar Blade won best waifu. Its not perfect but there's a reason awards shows tend to not go by fan votes (i.e. also look at Crunchyroll's awards shows where fans of specific anime flood the votes to make sure their favorite thing wins) since it gives an heir of legitimacy rather than make it a popularity contest.

Another thing is this, while it is sometimes cringe for awards shows to have stuff like people performing songs or comedy bits, those at least give it a show, this entire awards show would be no different from looking at the results of a popularity poll since there is very little fanfare, not even having anyone accept their awards or pretending too (the 420 awards are cringe but at least they pretended to give out awards). Like the money used for voting could've at least gone to making cheap trophies, but I feel all the budget was spent on getting Duke Nukem's voice actor and that terrible opening animation where Geoff Keighley just looks like some guy.

For a supposed celebration of making a game awards show for the fans, a significant chunk of awards is spent complaining about games that already bombed which make them have more attention than anything that won.

game journalists aren't "industry professionals", or only in the sense whores are professionals too.
public voting gives you popularity contests, but the "industry awards" like game awards and bafta give you outright obvious shit like inquisition winning best rpg AND goty, with endless wokeshit pushed for brownie points.

Honestly, most of these are deserved, the only ones I can feel are wrong might Husbando of the Year due to Broly (despite it being the less cooler Super version, compared to the OG DBZ one) & Kazuma Kiryu being on there, who utterly mog Barret, & the racing one cause Parking Garage Rally has a better gameplay loop & is just a better game in general (it's also possibly coming to Dreamcast according to the devs), while Nightmare Kart's Bloodborne gimmick novelty falls off quicker.

Selaco, the awards show literally just had an ad for the game, no strings attached since the creators liked the game.

Just a fun fact about Selaco, after this tard-rage, despite being an actually good game, Selaco is having its worst weekend this year. The smallest player peak & they are down to #2407 Top Sellers on the Steam store.

Combat feels bad, but it's serviceable. The pacing is trash though and it's just not as fun to play, and is censored. Apparently the second one is woke too, so they're a disgrace to the original. Still better than most AAA games in recent years but that's a low bar.
