The Ren & Stimpy thread - Separate from the John K. pedo thread

By the way, does anyone know how frequently Nick would air reruns of R&S in the 90s and when exactly they stopped? Because from my memory it was actually somewhat of a rare treat to actually watch R&S, I easily watched Rocko, Rugrats and Doug ten times as much as I ever did watch R&S.

Around the late 90's is when the show was getting phased out of Nick's lineup entirely. Many episodes were cut or banned from the channel after being shown a handful of times as well. The channel did like to show the episode Eat My Cookies often because it had Rosie O'Donnel as a guest voice.

I liked R&S as a kid but at times the show genuinely disturbed me, like when Powdered Toast man flies so fast he actually burns up people riding on his back or Ren's many freakouts, I could tell even as a kid that there was genuine insanity behind the show and sure enough I turned out to be right.
Ren & Stimpy is one of the most disguisting and creepy cartoons. In fact, its creator is an alleged child molestor.

I do however remember watching an episode in 2000 I believe, but yeah, reruns became rarer and rarer by that point, I think that was the very last time I saw it on TV in fact.

Uh yeah, I'm well aware, which is why I said "I turned out to be right "

Great podcast going over John K's terrible work ethic, exposing more of his lies and going over one of the best Games episodes Hermit Ren. Which is a personal favorite of mine.

This scene legit scared me as a kid. I was about 8 or 9 maybe and grew up watching Nightmare on Elm Street and shit and this one scene with his hands melting got to me.

RIP Chris Riccardi.

First time I've ever seen the uncut version of the Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksman song where they don't censor out "hell."

And there's the fucking intestine, which I saw on television.

It makes no sense to me that they wouldn't cut that out. I mean "hell" I understand, but the intestine? Nah, perfectly appropriate for children. Fuck, it's bleeding too, I completely forgot about that.

Oh boy, forgot about that episode.

Yeah, there were some worthwhile Games episodes, one of my favorite episodes as a kid was the travelogue one, which was Games.

It's important to remember how great this show was when it was at it's best, which is why we still talk about it 25+ years later, what a shame John K being a flaming asshole had to spoil a good thing.

I think if John pitched his show to MTV, they probably would've gotten off better.

Honestly, it's weird that it wasn't a MTV show to begin with.

It is kinda interesting how it was kept in at all. Random organs flying around often happened in this series so maybe they didn't think that highly over it despite what was obviously happening.

Not to mention there's clearly a poop flying out of it.

Even weirder, I distinctly remember Clarissa Explains it all saying hell a couple of times.

So it is okay when it is in live action and minors are saying it, but not from a cartoon that features bleeding intestines in the same scene? K.

I remember a lot of early NIckelodeon shows also using the word "crap" too, Ren and Stimpy included.

So there’s a thread like this here and no one told me?

The John K. thread probably would have shown that I’m a big fan of Ren and Stimpy. I’ve got some of the merchandise (the comic book at its best is as good as the show, and the CDs are pretty good too), I have the DVDs - cuts and all - and even a terrific commission of Wilbur Cobb by Bob Camp himself. He had a ton of great stories about the show, but I only heard a few of them when he was at my local con.

Ren and Stimpy managed to get away with it, but Hey Arnold tried it and it got censored. I’m still not sure how they got away with it.

But it was a fairly lax period in Nickelodeon’s history. Things tightened up later. For a while you could not say “dead” in a Nicktoon.

I don't remember Hey Arnold! having the word "crap" censored, though maybe it was probably because I was watching it on The Splat.

Must be nice for you to be able to discuss the show itself and not its shitbag of a creator.
