The Sims

The Starter Pack and other related repos got DMCA'd by EA in Github. I wonder if someone backed up those repos? Sadly I didn't managed to because I used the web installer which downloaded all of the needed files from Github. :(
I have everything downloaded but I'm not sure on the repos itself. I remember it drew from "The Puppets 2" or something.

Oh no, I'll have to do everything manually, one by one, just like the way I've been doing it all these years, the horror... /lolsneed

Looks like I'm gonna have to go trawling again. Been a while, and hopefully I can navigate how to install all those compatibilities.

Ended up grabbing the legacy collection of 1 (from analdius of course) and it worked surprisingly fine and without crashes. Just like in LGR's video, a 2k resolution (2560x1600 in my case) is the best for UI scaling and zooming.

Also, I can't find it now, but when they released the collections I saw an article calling Sims 1 "the Dark Souls of Sims games" :story: FFS not every hard game is Dark Souls, that game wasn't even a thing in the early 2000s!

the best part of sims 4 is making the overly woke “game devs” in their pride clothes and having them burn alive in a raging fire. It didn’t cost a cent That’s all base game!

found it… I also forgot they had a baby named “groom victim” luckily babies don’t die in these games and xhe went on to live a happy life with a better family

Call it xdd consoomer brain or whatever, but to have 100% all of Sims 1 and 2 on steam, 'forever', for that price, is pretty good. I guarantee most of the people complaining about the price is gonna drop $80 on some AAA game and fail to refund it once they realize it's dogshit.

The fact they're actually releasing updates has me considering buying the pack, which isn't even a time-limited thing with a discount, so there's not even a rush to do that. if they release 2-3 big patches that address most issues over the next month, I'll probably get it (and then delete Sims 4 from my library despite the few DLC I own cause fuck that game).
I think the actual atrocious thing is that they used to have modern day computer compatible Sims 1 + 2 for free on origin a few years back. I'd take the inconvenience of having origin over paying $50 for both games on steam.

I own a physical copy of the Sims 1 and 2 and the steam prices are pretty much what I paid for the physical copies, new, in the 00's.

What do you mean used to? Still works even now. EA just gotten some talentless hacks to """port""" this to Steam. They could have taken the exact same files, put it on Steam for $50 and it'd still be better than the buggy turd they put out.

Used to in the sense that it was free on the origin store, but not anymore.
It's more the fact they used to give compatible with modern windows Sims 1 + 2 for free and now they're charging for it. Especially for the 25th anniversary. Not even a sale to start off with to celebrate the anniversary.

If you managed to grab the free version before they took it off the origin store, naturally you'll still have it in your game library.

I don't remember then giving Sims 1 for free (Was it even legally available outside disks back then? I don't think so). I do remember the 2 Ultimate Collection giveaway though, which I missed because I refused to make an Origin account.

Know why Sims 1 is hard? Generational wealth. You're not meant to become rich in one life-time. You can in Sims 4. A few 'years' in fact.

I saw someone make a video poking fun at WoW releasing a hardcore version and how Sims should have one too: Random lawsuits, random bankruptcy, random life-altering/ending misfortune. You know, real life! It'd actually be interesting. The newer the Sims game, the easier and happy it is. There is no cheek or 'evil' to Sims 4. I've read entire reddit posts asking about how to introduce chaos and random misfortune into Sims 4 and it's.. just not possible.

I remember them giving away all of S2 or S3 on Origin. Just, one-off, never again. At this point they could make lite re-releases of all the games on Steam and probably profit from it. I'm still tempted to buy the re-release simply cause it's Sims. I'm not gonna pirate Sims ever again, I like the 'official' of my absolutely barebone Sims 4 more than short-lived pirated software. You know, the reason Steam killed off a lot of piracy: Comfort. €50 for S1 and 2, eventually 3 surely, and then telling myself "Sims is dead and gone. I own all of Sims. Neat".

I've been watching these pretty female coded left-wing UK series and they literally just make me want to play Sims. To sit down in a blanket and watch shit play out. Make fun. Try to architect. Learn to be creative. I know creativity is pasting previous concepts together in new ways but I'd like to become a person who'd enjoy it. I do enjoy being creative in games, though only in multiplayer and for other people's sake. Really sucks.

I'll probably buy it. Cause I can. And I refund everything I buy anyway. I don't recall last I spent more than €20 on a game.

It's about making it understandable for the millennial and zoomer generations, who grew up with games that had hour long tutorials, markers, yellow paint, constant hand-holding, rewind features and hints for everything. the only difficult game these losers know is Dark Souls because nothing else is remotely difficult today or has been in the past 20 years ever since gaming got massively dumbed down and simplified to the point it resembles shigeru miyamoto's big dream of games that play themself so noobs can see the outro.

As for me: Sims 1 Legacy works perfectly fine. Then again, i thankfully still also own a 5:4 screen, so i don't have any scaling issues. all mods from the old days worked, downloaded the entire 7sins website and other shit from archive (even an iso for that's life) and it all works. It's extremely nostalgia and definitely the most challenging Sims game. Getting anything going takes forever

Sims 1 NEVER was on Origin at all. Not free, not for sale, it wasn't there, despite people begging for it. They did give Sims 2 away for the 10th anniversary in July 2014 but even then it was only available for a couple days and only if you knew the redeeming code (i-love-sims), they didn't even advertise it on their store page.

now that its finally patched its works relatively fine for me, I find the needs bar to go down shockingly quick other than that its a solid game, the whole series went downhill after 3 went they went full appeal to retarded leftists and women

>Analdius has the whole games for free (they probably work better than the "legit" versions)
>Other fuller versions have been there for decades now
>"No you see, I HAVE to buy it because... I JUST HAVE TO OKAY? My copies of former abandonware are more legit if I buy them!"

Holy consoomer mentality!

Im autistically annoyed by having all 20 something packs clogging up my add/remove programs list when i install it that way.

I will always have a soft spot for the sims 1 because inviting a girl over to play it was how i lost my v card but sims 2 is the pinnacle of the series and its not even close. Its also the only one that lets you hack together all the neighborhoods into an ultimate uberhood with thousands of sims interacting. Shared downtown shared universities and shared vacation locales. Alexander Goth cucked Romeo and married Juliet in my ongoing uberhood when they met at academie le tour and she moved him back into the capp mansion with her.

Last time i checked i have something like 15gb of mods for the game. I just love dressing up nina caliente that much i guess.

G4TW made a proper repack based on the Origin version, and a proper repack of TS3. There's no need to continue going through that hell.

I keep using the old G4TW repack of 2 because some mods don't play well with the Ultimate Collection. Anygamestarter can't make truly base game only versions and the Scriptorium's installer doesn't work, so saving one hassle just adds another one.

You're, right, my bad. I had to refresh my memory; it was just Sims 2 ultimate collection I was thinking of.

Still, I think Sims 1 & 2 are overpriced on Steam. They're pretty old games. But this is EA we're talking about.
But all the Sims fans are happy to buy it regardless so good for EA I guess. They know their consoomerbase.
