The Skeptic Community - Pseudo-intellectuals ranting on Youtube

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Myles Power, a chemist by profession, has nuked his online existence in the last day or so. His site, YouTube channel, Xitter account, Instagram account, and Facebook account are gone. His Patreon page is still up, funnily enough.
No clue what happened. If I had to guess, either a legal threat or a job offer that required him to cease his public activities.
According to Jeff Holiday he is OK, but wants to remove his presence from the Internet entirely.
Jeff also says he wants to remake some of the debunking videos and that he has gotten permission to do so from Myles.

I was listening to The Skeptics Guide to the Universe end of year wrap up episode. They do a thing each year where they nominate their Skeptical Hereo and Skeptical Jackass of the year. Of course RFK was the jackass. He believes some wacky stuff, I understand the choice but they were talking about how people will now die because of him. Can't comment.

What I found amusing was that none of them could really think of a Hereo of the year. Cara was the same but suggested maybe it was Kamala Harris because of how brilliantly she debunked Trump in real time during the debates. More confirmation people in that tribe just live in a political reality told to them and not one they experience.

Apart from the occasional Skeptoid, I can’t listen to any Skeptic podcasts anymore. The all got super pozzed and suffer from insane Trump Derangement Syndrome.

I kinda miss Emery Emery’s podcasts. He apparently a bit of a con artist but he’d have been funny throughout the last four years. Not sure what happened to him, he kinda disappeared. Maybe he got a decent day job?

I don't think I have listened to Skeptoid since before he went to prison. I didn't even know he still did it. His political beliefs sometimes skewed things but it was good. Looking through it now, "Elephant Graveyards" is interesting enough for me to ad follow.

I rarely listen to any skeptic podcasts either, the Trump years broke it. They were clearly very much in that left-wing echo chamber with a step out of reality when it came to Trump, his supporters and what was going on. There was plenty to criticise him about, but where was the criticism of the insanity and conspiracy theories spread about him? It wasn't balanced or well-informed at all. I seem to recall Cara on the SGU saying Trump was telling people to inject bleach, in a just off-the-cuff way but it exposes the fake reality and ease of, "Orange man bad, am I right" world they live in.

Definitely noticed a shift after listening for a very long time about how they'd discuss things.

It's also why I stopped watching the late night shows, the Trump stuff was a step out of line with reality. Jokes and comments about a fictional Trump. Pushing the fake narratives. Joke and punchline that isn't even based on anything real.

It was something dumb. He was cookie stuffing and making a fortune. It sounds like he was thrown under the bus by Amazon who knew about it.

I think he spoke about it when he was on Joe Rogan.

I remember Rebecca Watson would throw it in his face on Twitter a lot as she’d tried to cancel him a few times.
