I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

Back to the topic at hand here. Cortez's "Green New Deal" is fucking dumb. It sounds like if someone from the Onion could write up a bill for Congress and present it, or something a six year old with down syndrome would come up with unironically. It's also completely insane, it will actually destroy the United States Economy. AOC has no arguments other than moralfagging, and therefor should be completely disregarded and never taken seriously what so ever. Every Congressman and Senator who votes in favor of the Green New Deal should be laughed at and dismissed all together.

That's entire;y dependent on if the New York Democratic party will fall in line with what the establishment wing of the DNC wants, since redistricting is done at the state level. This is something that shouldn't be taken for granted, as, while I'm far from an expert on the dynamics of New York's state legislature, from what I've seen they're pretty cucked.

I don't disagree with your assessment that the "establishment" democrats are probably having very serious case of buyers remorse in picking AOC as their poster child. However, the national party does not have a direct hand in setting the congressional district lines after the census data comes in. That task is handled entirely by the New York state legislature (and if AOC were smart she'd be trying to get pork barrel projects in the districts of the Senate and Assembly members that will be overseeing the process, or failing that, the Democratic Assembly and Senate leadership, but I digress.)

She and her staff are either too inexperienced or too exceptional to finesse this though. The progressives could make a fuss, and start picking out clients that could make a race expensive for an establishment candidate as a form of coercion, but again, I'm going off on a tangent here.

As such, they could very easily end up keeping her district electorally favorable if she plays her cards right. Once they selected the candidate they can apply pressure to the state party to start building them up, as well as telling the major donors/PACs that this is the person they should be backing, and to tell AOC to sit and spin.

Democrats are a different shade of Republican, with just different cocks of rich people down their throats. Its only surface level shit. Democrats are the ones who look like they're throwing you the bone. The Republicans just keep the bone. That's why I find conservatives more honest. They're straight up about wanting to smash a boot in your face forever, while the Democrats say it'll only be about 10-20 years that boot will be mashing your face, when its really forever. AOC is not smart. She's a communist. Also, she's got no political experience and just happened to live in just the right district under just the right circumstances. I highly doubt she knows the minutiae of local politics or would even be interested. Also, the progressive wing of the Democratic party is like, what, fucking 4 people? Nowhere near enough to protect her. Now that Warren is running, don't count on her protection either. So that's like what, 3 bodies to raise a stink? (Also don't be fooled by Democrats who have adopted identity politics. Democrats do this shit ALL the time. As soon as it falls out of fashion they'll drop it like its hot. The true believer progressive wing of the Democratic party is actually very small, thanks to the DNC).

The problem with primarying her is that she's got too much pull from re.tards on the national level. She could get a lot of funding and while she'd more than likely lose, its an expensive proposition and the DNC are cheap cocksuckers as is. The DNC really only parades her around like a whore so she can suck money out of people, whether AOC knows it or not. They're highly unlikely to run a campaign to out her. And what fucking Democrat would want to be the one to do it? That's like killing your career.

Gerrymandering would force her to actually run a real campaign and not an insurgency. It would also allow the Democrat being challenged an out by saying they have 'no choice' to run in the matter. Gerrymandering basically saves the Democrats face, money and removes the risk of someone asking to run against her from her district when she's this popular. They can tear her district apart by a political establishment not happy a fucking communist cucked them, make the Dem running against her shrug their shoulders and force her to run or concede the seat. Gerrymandering is the best way to do it if they wanted, and the least painful. Believe me, if 2020 turns bad they will have no problems using her as a scapegoat after they've whored her out for money. They might not. But for me, its just hard to imagine them wanting to keep her.

I mean, if the DNC wants to keep losing and have a seat that doesn't do shit for 20 years they could confine her to committees where unpopular people go to die. But I just don't imagine they will keep her around. The political compass of the country is changing, even if it doesn't like Trump, it is shifting much faster and farther away from what AOC believes and that is far too much of a liability to ignore, especially when AOC's words have national consequences.
