I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

You know, I'm starting to think that this woman's just flat-out nuts.
Yea I listened to that thing too. She can't pronounce simple words, struggles reading outloud in a way I don't hear outside elementary school, and clearly has no idea of the topic at hand.

She's the definition of the useful idiot.

AOC celebrating that Amazon ditches New York and is taking their potential 25,000 jobs elsewhere.
Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world.

The head of policy communications at Amazon blasts Cortez.
The fallout from Amazon's decision to walk away from its planned headquarters in New York is ratcheting up after a company spokesman publicly blasted Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other lawmakers, saying they had made it a hostile environment to do business.

"If you talk to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it's 'Never Amazon,'" Jodi Seth, the head of policy communications for Amazon, told NBC News in an interview on Thursday. "If you talk to [New York City Councilman Jimmy] Van Bramer, it's unions."

Lots of people blasting her actually, including Andrew Cuomo who had this to say
"[A] small group [of] politicians put their own narrow political interests above their community -- which poll after poll showed overwhelmingly supported bringing Amazon to Long Island City -- the state's economic future and the best interests of the people of this state," Cuomo said in the statement, which did not mention Ocasio-Cortez or other lawmakers by name. "The New York State Senate has done tremendous damage. They should be held accountable for this lost economic opportunity."

In the statement issued by his office, Gov. Cuomo mentioned that Amazon chose the Empire State because it is "the capital of the world and the best place to do business," adding that missing out on Amazon is a lost opportunity to diversify "our economy away from real estate and Wall Street."

Why can't everyone just be handed a free ride through college, plum internships, briefly bartend and then go straight to congress? Why doesn't everyone just do that instead of working those icky Amazon jobs?

OOH shots fired! He's saying you ain't a real socialist Cortez! You know what that means? You gotta GO GREENER!

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez faces questions after her boyfriend gets congressional email account
The decision by tech giant Amazon to pull out of their plan to build a New York City headquarters was a stunning development, especially for those looking forward to the 25,000 new jobs Amazon promised to bring to the area. But now the fallout is ramping up as Amazon executives are blaming New York lawmakers, especially Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for creating a 'hostile environment' in which they did not want to do business.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is facing ethics questions after revelations the freshman lawmaker's office gave her boyfriend a congressional email account.

The democratic socialist waded into the issue in response to a tweet alleging boyfriend Riley Roberts had been put on staff. The tweet included a screenshot of an official House email address. Ocasio-Cortez insisted that he was only given the email account so he could access her calendar.

“Actually this calendar designation is a permission so he can have access to my Google Calendar. Congressional spouses get Gcal access all the time,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote, after political consultant Luke Thompson tweeted the picture showing Roberts having an official account like other staffers on the Hill. "Next time check your facts before you tweet nonsense."

Asked about the arrangement, David O'Boyle, the spokesperson for the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, told Fox News: "From time to time, at the request of members, spouses and partners are provided House email accounts for the purposes of viewing the member’s calendar."

But Jason Chaffetz, former chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said Ocasio-Cortez' claims don’t stack up.

"It’s totally naïve and inappropriate – you wouldn’t allow it in most companies, let alone the House of Representatives. There should be real consequences,” Chaffetz told Fox News.

“When I was in the House, my scheduler would forward my wife my schedule once a week. But you’re not allowed unfettered access. And he isn’t even her spouse,” he added. “... It should be referred to the ethics committee for further investigation.”

Meanwhile, Thompson's tweet touched off a Twitter battle with the congresswoman's staff.

Saikat Chakrabarti, the congresswoman’s chief of staff, insisted that the boyfriend isn’t on the payroll and that he’s not doing any work related to the government.

“He's not paid. We have no volunteers in the office. He's not doing any government work. He can see her calendar just like spouses/partners/family members in other congressional office,” he wrote, adding in another tweet, “Spouses and partners normally get http://mail.house.gov e-mail addresses for the purpose of getting calendar access.”

House IT rules generally prohibit the use of “the House’s electronic mail systems and resources” by unauthorized members, and only “U.S. House of Representative Members, Officers, Employees, Fellows, Interns and Contractors” with appropriate permission can use the system. Still, Boyle cited the practice of sometimes allowing spouses access.

Chaffetz said that Roberts having email access could also create other security issues and the matter should be referred to the Capitol Police for further investigation.

“Being given a password to get into the House computer system has other potentially problematic issues,” he said.

Ocasio-Cortez’s office did not respond to Fox News’ requests for comment.

I like to think she asked someone if this was OK and since they fucking hate her, they assured her that everyone does it knowing she would get raked over the coals for it. A little "welcome to the big leagues, rookie".

My sides would go into orbit if this actually happened.

Bill de Blasio sounds off on the Amazon thing:
"De Blasio rips into AOC’s Amazon opposition: Working people ‘want jobs’"

It’s a progressive civil war.

A hot-under-the-collar Mayor Bill de Blasio tore into Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday as he blistered both the online giant and local politicians who opposed bringing it to Queens.

“As a progressive my entire life — and I ain’t changing — I’ll take on any progressive anywhere that thinks it’s a good idea to lose jobs and revenue because I think that’s out of touch with what working people want,” the mayor said on WNYC radio.

Ocasio Cortez (D-Bronx/Queens) — who lobbed bombs at the $3 billion incentives package offered by city and state leaders — said Thursday that Amazon’s withdrawal from the deal showed that “everyday Americans still have the power to organize and fight for their communities and they can have more say in this country than the richest man in the world.”

The audio clip, played by WNYC host Brian Lehrer as he questioned de Blasio over Amazon’s shocking decision to withdraw, set the mayor on a tear.

“I came up watching the mistakes of progressives of the past, unfortunately what happened in this city when it almost went to bankruptcy in the 1970s,” said a boiling de Blasio. “I saw all the times progressives did not show people effective governance and all the times progressives made the kinds of mistakes that alienated working people.”

“Working people are very smart and very discerning. They want jobs, they want revenue, they want the kinds of things that government can do for them,” he added. “They understand they have to be paid for.”

City and state politicians promised Amazon $2.5 billion in tax credits, a $500 million state construction subsidy and the ability to sidestep the city’s laborious zoning process to bring the company’s promised new campus and its 25,000 jobs to the Long Island waterfront.

The company stunned New York on Thursday when it announced it was pulling out in the face of opposition from local neighborhood groups and some local Queens politicians.

Actually, I'm sure she hated the thought of corporate jobs even more than grunt jobs.

Ahhhh holy shit, I can't believe my prediction that she was hiring staff based on ideological purity rather than competence was giving her too much credit. What the fuck is this timeline? If I were Pelosi I'd be trying to arrange a tragic (((accident))) to befall AOC or be searching for anyone semi-comptent to carpetbag into her district, provided the district isn't nuked in the next redistricting cycle.

If I were Pelosi I'd be trying to arrange a tragic (((accident))
The fact that Clinton's hit squad hasn't been called in to literally string this retard up in central park as a message to democratic socialists like AoC to stop fucking up a good thing suggests to me that the old hag has accepted she will never be president and should go in peace into that dark night. Why do people you hate a few favors on your way out?

:optimistic:For the benefit of your country?:optimistic:

This would be a better post if Amazon wasn't a soulless, shitty job with long hours and garbage management under a nice techie, progressive sheen. Die, Amazon, die.

She represents so much awfulness in this hemisphere, I am grateful for this toothy mongoloid and her childish beliefs. Win or lose, she's a calcified reflection of how shitty and intellectually lazy we are. You don't curse the fever.

AOC is like the gift that keeps on giving. I wonder what other bills or legislation she’ll come up with next? Maybe she’ll have plastic straws and cups taxed and a fee for using them at a restaurant?Maybe a charge of 10¢ per plastic straw?

Socialists always do shit like this. Not really a surprise to me. They give their loyal cronies government positions in return for their loyalty. Chavez did this in Venezuela by firing a bunch of qualified workers and gave the positions to his loyalists.

Well of course, those "qualified" people only cared about facts and numbers, not moral truths!
