I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

That’s incredibly embarrassing, either you practice what you preach or you’re a massive hypocrite.

It's the same story with green politicians all over the world, in a way I think that the more radical their rhetoric is the more detached they are from living under the ridiculous terms that they champion. They also have to up the ante. We're already recycling, most people no longer throw their burger trash out the window of the car, up until recently the ozone hole was shrinking, we have electric cars, many people use public transport, more and more city centers are closed for personal vehicles, ecological, organic, vegetarian and vegan alternatives of almost anything are widespread. To be relevant and stay in the spotlight they have to come up with crazier and crazier demands, like the GND.

But back to my point: whenever journalists decides to do a cursory check on high-ranking green politicians they more often than not don't even try to practice what they preach. When confronted with that the answer seems to be "I don't have to live like that" with the implication that the reason they're not trying is because they're not forced to try even though they themselves are trying to force the change. Essentially, if they can't force themselves to do it why bother?

My favorite answer from an environmental politician came when he was asked why, among other things, he owned three gas-guzzling cars. He responded with "it's better that I own them, I can only drive one at a time! Besides, if I sold one then the person who bought it would probably use it. If I kept it then maybe he would buy an electric bicycle instead."
Answers like that only fly among career greentards, even trust-fund socialists that labels themselves working class tend to become uncomfortable when confronted with the reality of what they are.

why are people so mad at a politician with no power
I'm not mad but she also isn't without power. She has a vote in the House. I think that is concerning but none the less she is doing amazing damage to her party.
lol 68 pages of "not mad"
You seem to not understand amusement and mockery is not being mad. I'm glad she's in office, she is crippling the DNC badly. Having that D by her name and retarded shit being spouted out by her and then her trying to deny it in the day and age of the internet just makes them all look so stupid. She's a god send to the Republicans.

And the beauty of it all is that we live in the age of information. It is literally in the palm of your hands. They can't deny and lie about it anymore. They are caught living in luxury homes while lecturing about inequality (Bernie Sanders), having a larger carbon footprint than a small town while lecturing us about global warming (Al Gore), and telling us about how we need to respect women while their husband is the biggest perv since JFK (Clinton). The hilarious is they can't lie about it like they used to. You'd think only the old geezers would not catch on to this but Ocasio shows we're gonna have another generation of libtards who aren't tech savvy enough to realize the archive always watches and we watch the archive.

But thanks to the magic of US government and the foresight of our founders, she doesn't have all that much power.
The founding fathers didn't even expect the Judicial Branch to become as powerful as it did just in their own lifetimes, there's a lot that could happen.

Let's see what the /r/politics daily circlejerk has to say about her today:

This is just embarrassing trigger the libs cons, own the libs cons tier shit, do they think every Republican that ran their mouth saying stupid shit ascended to Trump status or something? Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin attracted plenty of liberal mockery and hateboners and they're pretty irrelevant now.

If this "generation of leaders" is "half as talented as her", they will have no talent at all.

I'll let you do the math.

I'm just waiting for the gulag themed AOC porn parody.

Well; they're women, so.....
They tend to attract a lot of boners.

Especially hate ragers.

Which usually are wielded by other women, guaranteed if the opposing female is more attractive.

And just like a raging hard-on, there's just no reasoning with 'em once they've got their blood up. They don't stop until the their competition (ideological or otherwise) is removed. The same goes for any who object to their ire.

It doesn't help either that Palin's house is a perpetual reality-show mine fire, and Bachmann has all the energy & charm of a week-old latke. All of that shit got old, quick.

Her puppet master got busted stuffing the dark money cookie jar.

It's nice to see this story getting mainstream attention. We all knew she was going to end up corrupt but it's going to be a fucking circus among :optimistic: progressives if she gets busted for breaking the law from the very beginning. My personal gut feeling is that she was laundering money back to herself through the payments to her boyfriend, but i'm looking forward to a formal investigation revealing the truth. If nothing else, I hope this shakes some of the democrat's uppity attitude around campaign finance laws- it's a bipartisan issue and I'd like to see the parties working together for real reform.

it's a bipartisan issue and I'd like to see the parties working together for real reform
Why would they? The only times the two parties work together is when they expand their own powers and ways of enriching themselves. The establishment is corrupt, the non-establishment is naive, and the voters are useful idiots for the establishment.

Ever notice how when the Republicans were the minority party they were ready and willing to repeal and replace Obamacare, but as soon as they had the House, the Senate, and the presidency there's suddenly a problem in repealing and replacing?

I love how many knots and twists they keep tying themselves into to avoid saying "This person probably dislikes Jews." when if this was a Conservative, they'd have been called Hitler 50 times before they even walked into the room.

"I dont dislike black people... I just dislike detriot because its filled with violent niggers. No money to urban apes of detriot."

If Democrats dont nail Omar and AOC here soon, the problem for them will just get worse and Republicans are just going to enjoy straight wins across the board.
