I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Really so now the fierce advocate for the working class AOC that brave and bold Revolutionary Badass Warrior wants the 1st Amendment abolished because someone gave her a huge compliment she in no way deserved

How many death and bomb threats did the entire population of a catholic school get because you and your ilk shared a deliberately doctored video of a teenager smiling? Where's your concern when things like that happen?

Not as bad as someone who thought Yugoslavia was a nuclear power at my school.
well they were as much a nuclear power as south africa. there were plans, they had the tech pretty much done and they had enough payload for a bomb. but they never build one, the powerplant wasnt ready till the mid 80s and they had to many internal problems to build nukes.

All two people inspired by this will surely be arrested easily, right? It's not like Congresspeople are given more privileges than the rest of us, including 24/7 security even as they desire to disarm the rest of us.

To believe her statement is true, you have to first assume she's the one that reads her own Twitter, which I sincerely doubt.

I think she posts on it herself, but no way in fuck she reads all them shits.

“Someone’s making fun of me. My life is in danger!”

That reaction worked better when Ilhan Omar got called out for saying 9/11 was “that something some people did.”

And even then, that fell flat on its hijab.

Oh look worst attorney in America competator (competing with creepy porn lawyer) Zaid decided to do some AOC white knighting and show off his total lack of legal knowledge.

I don't even know where to go with this train of thought, anymore. How is a stillbirth even remotely ICE's responsibility? If she gave a damn about her kid in the first place maybe she shouldn't have gone hoofing it across the fucking desert. I appreciate how you left out all of the information from the fucking press release concerning how she was cleared by medical staff at a local hospital after two screenings, taken back to the hospital once the baby was born, where he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

It's not like the child was born on a cement floor and just left to die you disingenuous bitch. If that baby was aborted at that age you'd be praising the abortion, don't pretend like you actually fucking care.

Grasping at straws when they are trying to equivalent everything to everything. Kind of sad.

Yep, reminds me of them sperging out over that girl dying in the hospital of dehydration when it turns out they fucking airlifted her to a hospital for treatment. Give it up AOC, migrants at the border aren't going to be housed in five star hotels while awaiting processing.

Conversely, if it's just a clump of cells, ICE officials should be able to have illegal women take a hefty dose of Plan B to insure they won't be having an anchor baby, right?

Because it’s not a white power symbol?
Seeing the chan meme be turned on AOC is funny as fuck to me. Let them sperg, tell them it's racist and also means they hate trannies too. Anything to get these loons to bash their head on the wall out of self-righteous anger.

Maybe they're appropriating it to a "Woke Power" symbol when they use it. Any whities using it will still automatically mean white power.

"POC can't be racist" they sure can be reetarded, case in point.

Political correctness, though loathed, was largely tolerated for the better part of two decades.

But when it made the final mutation into SocJus, and every person on the internet who didn't agree with you was instantly, and unironically, a hybrid hacker/assassin, looking to make you feel bad and ruin your social media profile as a prelude to bloody murder? And they thought that the public, the very same public who deals with the very same lame trolls in their lives every day, would not only BUY this but be completely fine with the resulting clamp down on free expression on the inernet is what killed the movement.

They just couldn't resist invoking even larger and larger demons to be abused by until the mere act of disagreeing in a comment section about a movie was proof that someone was trying to literally kill you.
