I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Always wondered what all these "death threats" people recieve look like. Are people throwing bricks through their windows with notes attached? Intimidating phone calls? Sounds pretty serious if so. Why don't they go to the police about them?

Because the police would laugh at their Twitter feed.

I imagine she's receiving creepy sexual stuff way more than death threats. Any famous woman will attest they get a lot more of that than death threats. Though to be fair, furfags who are into horses will be all over chompers.

My favorite is when I see in the news that a politician is complaining about how they don't feel safe after they got tons of death & rape threats on Twitter, seemingly always after posting something really dumb.

Of course they have their DM's closed/locked like any other public figure so these death threats have to be in their mentions/responses... those are public and readable by all and upon looking there's nothing there, just criticism and jokes, not even a kys or die in fire. Making the claim of getting death threats conveniently deflects any criticism/ridicule from when they fuck up and no journalist is ever going to check if there's any truth to it.

Politicians should absolutely have to live their lives in fear of getting a bullet in the back of the head at any moment.

They should live in fear of the voting plebs cracking jokes about them on the internet when they act dumb. Jokes are not death threats, criticism is not harassment.

Oh look worst attorney in America competator (competing with creepy porn lawyer)

He's also competing with Landau from the Maddox lolsuit.
Seeing the chan meme be turned on AOC is funny as fuck to me. Let them sperg, tell them it's racist and also means they hate trannies too. Anything to get these loons to bash their head on the wall out of self-righteous anger.

I'd really rather not have a regular, ordinary hand gesture be labeled as a hate symbol because a group of idiots fell for a prank and can't admit that they did so out of hysteria.

"The OK nazi symbol wasn't real, but it's been made real now so we're justified" is the most pathetic refusal to admit being had I've ever seen in my life.

Political correctness, though loathed, was largely tolerated for the better part of two decades.

But when it made the final mutation into SocJus, and every person on the internet who didn't agree with you was instantly, and unironically, a hybrid hacker/assassin, looking to make you feel bad and ruin your social media profile as a prelude to bloody murder? And they thought that the public, the very same public who deals with the very same lame trolls in their lives every day, would not only BUY this but be completely fine with the resulting clamp down on free expression on the inernet is what killed the movement.

They just couldn't resist invoking even larger and larger demons to be abused by until the mere act of disagreeing in a comment section about a movie was proof that someone was trying to literally kill you.
If only Hollywood and the Entertainment media would get the memo.

Especially because it's only being done to mock the stupidity of the culture warrior sect, not out of any genuine belief that Hitler was right.....

Of course. But if these stupid fuckers are going to label something racist and fuck with people over it, there is nothing wrong with laughing when it bites them in the ass. It happens every single time.

I look at it as "I didn't want this to happen, but you did so I'm going to sit back and not interfere with you getting what you wanted".

Oh look worst attorney in America competator (competing with creepy porn lawyer) Zaid decided to do some AOC white knighting and show off his total lack of legal knowledge.

Saying someone is richer than they claim to be is defamation now?

D.C. is expensive, but AOC doesn't have children, so she has way more wiggle room than most people in D.C. She also chose a really expensive luxury building to live in.
