I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Was AOC the one who sperged about "muh tornadoes touched down in Maryland this is global warming's fault!!!!!" when the touchdown wasn't even on the fujita scale and is very characteristic of Maryland weather since approximately the beginning of time? Seriously there's always at least one a year but the climate loonies were going bonkers acting like this never happens...
I'm sure that will play well with everyone who's had their home destroyed by tornadoes. Fuck, I almost got ran over by one last week, an EF4, and I was making peace with my gods under the basement stairway. She can go fuck herself.

Maybe she should go after Bernie Sanders as a gesture of good will for having 3 houses and being a millionaire that doesn't give to charity.

I've noticed that the recent push that there's some kind of climate crisis going on has made people too young to remember the last 10-year-flood think that this decade's one is the fault of "climate change" , they're so desperate for "proof" that every thunderstorm that blows through is somehow the fault of "climate change" and not the same kind of thunderstorm you get all the time.... they should remember from their own childhoods that occasionally, you get severe storms among all the benign ones... but suddenly when the wind blows hard enough during a storm to tip over an empty trash can at the end of the driveway.... CLIMATE CHANGE!!!! WE'RE DOOMED!!!!!

“Our guarantee to having a home comes before someone else’s privilege to earn a profit.”

Scary/silly thing, this is the ONLY tack the democratic socialists have, "My right to X comes before your privilege to do Y"

What we want are basic rights, what you want are pampered first-world privileges.

The exact same "argument" is used to defend their desire to gun-grab, after one shooting, a small gaggle of protesters gathered outside the local college gates with signs that said "Our right to live is more important than your hobby"

It's completely logically, ethically, economically and civically bankrupt as an idea, it's just a loudly stated opinion, and not a well-informed one.

New Printing of AOC Comic Takes on DC Comics Directly, Raises Money For Immigrant Legal Services

Last month, Bleeding Cool ran a number of reports after DC Comics sent Devil’s Due and the New York Collector Cave a cease and desist notice, after a cover for their Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: New Party Who Dis? comic depicted AOC as if she was Wonder Woman. As a result copies of the original 250 print run now sell for four figures on eBay.

Second this motion.
This month, Devil’s Due is putting out a second printing of the comic, now with a new variant cover depicting the congresswoman as Supergirl, while reframing the logo in the kettering of parody comic MAD Magazine – which DC Comics also publishes, with cover legends “A parody of a parody! Yet still somehow less of a parody than Washington! Don’t be MAD. This isn’t about any actual DC superheroes.” AOC stands alongside senatorBernie Sanders as the Green Lantern, and congresswoman Ilhan Omar as Batman.

Don’t get MAD, get even… madder.
Dubbed the Cease And DCist cover, it not only claims the cover – and the previous one – as parody, a constututionally protected right, but points out DC Comics’ hypocrisy as the publisher of MAD Magazine, which regularly engages in such parody treatments.

Follow the money.
500 copies of the latest variant cover are being published, with a portion of proceeds going to immigrant legal services provider RaicesTexas.org.

Will Warner Bros lawyers risk causing another Streisand Effect on this one?

Auto Draft

just yuk.

I... don't think that's how parody works.

I can't just make a comic book titled "SuperDuperMan" and have a stand in of myself in Superman's clothes doing superhero shit. That's not parody, that's me trying to use an existing property to help sell my own.

Nothing about this comic is about parody toward superman or dc. It's about dumb fucking political strawmen.

And if DC doesn't sue, then that opens the floodgates for anyone. "Oh, well, they let that AOC comic go, so why can't I have my own SuperCorbinDallas comic where I bravely defeat the enemies of things I believe."

"We're going to antagonize one of the most notoriously litigious companies in America because"

C'mon, guys, don't you know? Declaring that you have good intentions and are fighting the bad guys means that you're completely immune to the rule of law! "They're totally being capitalist Nazis" is absolutely a legal argument you can use in court.

I see they're using the Chandler definition of "parody" here.

If the Lolcow and Lolcow LLP forum taught us anything, it's that you CAN use that argument in court.

You can also punch yourself in the balls, which is at least less expensive.
