I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

There are four very large things to consider when talking about "the state should supply this thing for free":

1. The rights of those who own the thing that is being given away. Is it so important to give a tiny minority of American women free hormone pills that you need to seize a lot of people's property (such as Average Joe and his 401(k) portfolio) and cause a ripple effect in the global market that impacts women in less privileged countries? Or do you prefer the version where the company gets in bed with the government and solidifies a state-enforced monopoly providing a narrowed range of products at a price they now pass on to you, the taxpayer, with kickbacks for the wealthy ruling elite?
2. Apropos of the above, are you prepared to see quality take a nosedive? Because if the state's providing, the state has sovereign immunity, which means you can't sue them if those hormone pills cause half the women taking them to suddenly hemorrhage to death. (Why do you hate women?)
3. If neither of those is a concern to you, ask yourself what valid and pressing purpose the government has in encouraging people to restrict reproduction. Not asking you to put on your robe and tinfoil hat, just asking you to supply a valid state reason for signaling to native citizens that we shouldn't reproduce at replacement rates (because we're barely doing that).
4. Providing me, a woman, with a limited number of BC pills per month gives the state an open door to control over my birth-control choices. My body, my choice?

Side thought: Honestly, I don't understand why SJWs aren't afraid that their precious Coercively Assigned Genders At Birth won't snap up all the hormone pills they can get if they become over-the-counter and free. That's just a recipe for more dead trannies and 'trenders. How transphobic can you get?

I don't like those people either, but I am willing to believe the idea that the media really plays them up as the single dominant pro-life argument when really a lot of pro-lifers are not so for religious reasons. They want a strawman to beat up and having exposed myself to more conservative people in the past few years I've been learning that there are a lot of conservative positions they just don't want to talk about because it's difficult ip dismiss them all as stupid or unreasoned. The people who paint all pro-lifers as ignorant creationist hicks are doing a left-wing version of saying "all muslins are terrorists".

This is an example of one of the most common pro-life arguments. Explaining in detail what the procedures can actually look like and relying on Drs who are former abortionists and former planned parenthood workers like Abby Johnson. The Mainstream media tends to ignore this kind of thing and focus in on religion because its the easiest to argue against.

You can also see this with the March for Life. Vastly smaller protests get far more coverage than something in America that is among the largest of protests held annually since 1974 that draws somewhere in the tens to hundreds of thousands every year. I dont know of anything like it with the same kind of longevity and consistency of numbers. The only reason it even popped up in the news this year was because of Chief Meth Mouth.

I like this video because it shows just how easily the idea that what's inside a woman is just a "clump of cells" can be completely reversed by a simple explanation of the abortion process. It's hard to argue that its a "clump of cells" when you can verbally describe the physical dismemberment of limbs.

print more green paper, ya dummy, that's what

Done, enjoy being unable to purchase even a simple candy bar with it.

Abortion is wrong and the fact that we casually murder so many unborn children is a death nell of our society. As cultures begin to collapse they tend to rely more and more on human sacrifice to appease the spirits, we are doing the same thing except we call the spirits "economic success"

Its even harder to advocate it if you even just watch what an abortion during the second trimester really looks like. The most infuriating thing about AoC and the the woke left that created her is that they argue abortion tax payer funded up to nine months on demand and for any reason, and if you disagree with that you do so because you hate women. They make it impossible to have a conversation and pretend like conservatives like me are actually just lying about our beliefs, when in reality the fact that I've seen with my own eyes what it looks like to pull distinctly human dismembered body parts out of a womb and lay them down on a table, and its as natural for me to say that should be illegal as vivisecting a born infant should be.

Why do you think they were so afraid of the Planned Parenthood videos?

Yes? That's what abstinence is. If you do not want to have children, at the minimum use a condom. If you want a guarantee to never have children, never have sex.

The majority of pro life people are absolutely fine with birth control and condoms, it's just that personal responsibility is a phrase never used by Democrats. Oh, and sex is pushed as an innocent thing that has zero consequences, so have as much of it as you want no matter how old you are, even if you're 10!
Telling people not to have sex is how we ended up with this fucked up bizzaro sex positive zeitgeist of today where depravity like polyamory is a-ok but a hot woman in a movie, comic book or video game is absolutely haram.

I think healthy sex education including talking about the risks is a must for teenagers and TBH I'm not opposed to making birth control easier to access for adult women.

Had a customer at work tell me today that he had to go to a Chinese doctor because "we murdered all of our doctors through abortion". Which one of you was it?

Regarding taxpayer funded birth control pills, I'm not saying I'm for it, but if you tallied up all it would end up saved in not having to provide for the kids that aren't being had? Legit question (and saying "no birth control and no welfare either" is just dodging the question)

We already have free condoms, its not hard to get birth control and it doesnt tend to cost much depending on what you get. I doubt there are that many people who use no form of birth control because of costs. It can be incredibly expensive if you say all birth control is free as well. Essentially, you would get little increase in numbers but would be footing the tax payer bill for people who already get and use it. The dumber its implemented the more expensive it gets.

The Aztecs were at the height of their power in 1521. It ended suddenly with the arrival of Cortez. The Romans, so far as I know, were done with human sacrifice for good after the Second Punic War. Child sacrifice had died out in Carthage long before the first. Norse funerals didn't involve human sacrifice at all anymore by the time the Christians were turning the tide against them.
Some Chinese Emperors were buried with sacrificial victims, but not in desperate times; only the greatest got such a compliment.

Sounds to me like slaughtering these unborn children means the best is yet to come.

The Aztecs were at the height of their power in 1521. It ended suddenly with the arrival of Cortez.

They had alienated every other population around them, who then sold them out to the new strongman in town. Cortez didn't just throw a dart at a corkboard in order to choose a nation to attack; he acted on local intel. Had they not been so eager to murder the helpless in order to (in their minds) maintain their prosperity, things would have gone very differently.

The Romans, so far as I know, were done with human sacrifice for good after the Second Punic War.

But they hadn't stopped the practice of throwing unwanted babies in the garbage in the name of "family stability" and prosperity.

Some Chinese Emperors were buried with sacrificial victims, but not in desperate times; only the greatest got such a compliment.

Well, I guess that makes it not really human sacrifice in a time of imminent collapse?

Saying abstinence is the safest birth control is a bit like saying driving is the safest way to fly.

Abstinence education is an early form of Virtue Signalling from ye olde religious people. You know damn well teens are gonna get up to some hanky panky. But if you tell them no sex ever until marriage, you showed that you think that's wrong and bad, and that's what's important. Who cares that the kids are just having sex anyway, at least you were seen saying the 'right' thing.

Of course "Fuck it, it's no big deal, also requiring HIV positive people to disclose it to sex partners is evil and wrong" isn't producing great results either.

Like most things, the real answer is something to do with personal responsibility and accurately gauging risk vs reward. Thinking for yourself is HARD though...

Abstinence education is the greatest form of mind control

It's like the proud boys or whoever it is who refuse to masturbate because they think they'll make BETTER decisions when they're pent up
