I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Ahahaha the black women are snappin on AOC. Call Whoopi Goldberg a house nigger, do it. Call Behar a dirty kike while you're at it. Do you guys think she's going to shut up before it's too late? Because I think she's going to ride her twitter account right into the ground. God I love political infighting, internal party politics is always so fucking nasty.

I think you have it reversed or something, because that means that their minimum is $5.26 per hour (19 pesos = 1 american dollar). Taking into consideration the cost of living in various areas of the vast country, it's hard for me to imagine how that translates insofar as standard of living, but I wanted to make clear the actual minimum wage in Mexico (assuming the statement that 100 pesos per hour is correct).

Here's the first result when searched
According to your source that is not an hourly minimum wage but a daily minimum wage. $5.10 a day.

Did... He just flat-out admit that they were attempting to use the Green New Deal to implement a centralized, state-run economy? What the fuck?
  • The accomplishments of Mussolini and his Fascist Party were widely admired and was looked upon as having saved Italy from a communist dictatorship of the type that developed in the Russian Empire. An American admirer was Hugh Johnson, the man who managed government policy during World War I. Franklin Roosevelt chose Hugh Johnson to design his program called The New Deal for coping with the problems of the Great Depression. There was not much faith in a purely market economy at the time. Johnson adopted some of the policies of Mussolini for the Roosevelt New Deal. He also adopted programs of other corporatist leaders in Europe such as Miguel Primo de Rivera in Spain. This was the origin of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Thus the modern platform of the Democratic Party had its origin in corporatist programs of Mussolini's Fascist Party in Italy

Yeah they slip up occasionally and admit that "climate change" is just an attempt at a backdoor hack into taking complete control of the economy. That's why they've tried so hard to demonize the opposition, to the point of calling them "climate deniers" specifically to try and create a mental association between that and "holocaust deniers". Thing is they've so effectively controlled the narrative to be about Settled Science versus Ignorant Evil Deniers that they know they can say this shit and it won't matter how often their opponents point it out, it will all just be responded to with "So you want the planet to die, is that it?"

It's also why they've gone bonkers in the last 2 years or so, and scream CLIMATE CHANGE! at every passing cloud. Used to be they'd only shout it at severe inclement weather, like droughts and floods, but now, the natural hurricane season that everyone on the Gulf Coast knows the drill for is being passed off as an oddity science can't explain and even passing afternoon showers make them sound the klaxon. They even blame earthquakes and volcano eruptions on it, which aren't even meteorological phenomenon.

See, they HAVE to keep that panicked mindset alive to push through their plans to nationalize all industry and all consumer aspects of society "for the good of the planet", and, that's proving difficult since when the original green movement as we recognize it today started in the 70's, all the dire warnings about what would happen if the entire socio-economic-political paradigm wasn't immediately knocked down and shifted to a more "democratic socialist" model had projected the environment would become an ashen waste in 20 years at the least and maybe only 50 at the most...

Well, 2020 is that golden anniversary, and while we have problems like deforestation and the great Pacific garbage pile that need a resolution, sooner rather than later, none of the Chicken Little warnings about years without winter and water up to the 10th floor of the Manhattan skyline have come even close to vetting.

The party that sold the lie that Peak Oil had been reached in 2010 and we had only 5 years to switch to driving Teslas or we'd all end up in the world's largest Mad Max LARP now has to explain why the US is a net exporter of energy products and where all these new millionaires who made their fortunes in the fracking biz came from, while at the same time, the average cost for a gallon of fuel has gone down.....

So that's why AOC and company without a hint of humor or hyperbole try to blame a fire at a WWII legacy-era oil refinery they've been trying to close for years as being somehow caused by the current "climate crisis".

Magicians don't reveal thier tricks, mostly to keep the illusion that it might be real that is necessary for the audience to play along...

Wrestlers don't break kayfabe because the willing suspension of belief that the outcome of a bout hasn't already been determined is needed for the audience to be entertained...

And yet this chucklefuck thinks you can mislead people while simultaneously admitting it and drawing attention to it while hoping they ignore it..... that..... only works in a 1984 dystopia where the populace has been psychologically conditioned to unquestioningly accept logical contradictions as valid.

And somehow, they expect to engineer their GND without 4th Gen nuclear plants, even though it's the ONLY way they'd have a hope of having enough power generation to satisfy the needs of the whole country. I'd also love to know how they expect to build a nation-spanning rail system without conscription.

The original Transcontinental Railroad was built by two privately owned rail companies who paid average Joes and migrants to do the construction. And that was at a time when such a thing was technologically on par with the Apollo program.

There isn't a shortage of willing labor for such a project, just a shortage of cash to do it to the degree they want in the time frame they want.

And that's the issue - the companies that did it maintained functional monopolies, in order to recoup their costs, while the feds definitely don't have the money to undertake a civil project of that magnitude, short of making it happen at gunpoint.

Uh, Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads were paid in land grants and government bonds. So was Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad. The only large rail network west of the Mississippi not built with government dosh was Kansas City Southern, and they (recently) bought a bunch of rail line from the Mexican Government.

Feds do have the money, they just waste it on niggers instead

Even if they put the welfare nogs to work, there's no way they've got enough in the budget, without cutting the military budget. To be fair, AoC et al. think that's a reasonable idea. They're also idiots.

They were given billions after billion of dollars to build a high-speed rail in California more than a decade ago and all they did was indefinitely postpone the project and try to keep the money anyways, and wanted a total of $77.3 billion to finish the project by... I don't remember, 2040?

And if memory serves, the 2006 Secure Fence and Border Act promised a shit ton of money to... well, secure the fucking border, and all that money has somehow evaporated.

As much as I rag on Elon Musk, he managed to get closer to the goal of High-Speed rail in California by welding together 1000 yards of sewer pipe at-cost than the billions the CA government has squandered on same over the last 30 years.....

Oh please, she won't visit a Holocaust memorial because of something something right wing, let alone a forum where a white man may disagree with her.
