I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

If, God forbid, Bernie Sanders was to become president, the US would quickly become a police state.
I doubt that, they will try, but they will not find enough people to form a competent police force. The average working class male american will join his force and liberal arts majors arent police material. he will start a very short civil war, ending with his lifeless body dangling from a pole in front of the white house while his supporters go swimming from a helicopter.
Revolutions are fought by hard, factory workers and farmers, not by soy boys,,,

I'm not gonna lie, everybody freaking out about Bernie being some sort of commie despot are no different than the r-tards that think Trump is the next Hitler.

Calm those soy filled tiddies cause ya'll coming across like a bunch of Sargons.

the point is not bernie himself but the people he will inevitably usher in both with his administration and after it. it's the green light for the long march to pick up speed. don't be so naive about the people with "good intentions." history is a checklist of human behavior, not an exception list.

ADL: Tlaib pls stop saying Jews murder children for sport

Tlaib: I'm really TRYING not to! It's so hard!

Perhaps, but anybody that thinks bread lines were a good thing is to never be trusted, and should in all honesty be hung from the nearest streetlight.

Not a commie despot but if he pushes even 1/10 of what he promises he'll bring the entire usa economy down. The cost of GND, free college and free healthcare individually is massive.

Tlaib boos Clinton at Sanders event, says 'haters will shut up on Monday when we win' Iowa

By Brooke Seipel - 01/31/20 10:36 PM EST

Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) booed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a live campaign event for presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Iowa on Friday.

The moment happened toward the end of a panel discussion with Tlaib and Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn) and Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) at Sanders's first "Caucus Concert," which featured a performance by Bon Iver in Clive, Iowa, ahead of Monday's caucus.

All three lawmakers have endorsed Sanders in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary and have spent time campaigning for him. During Friday night's event, the lawmakers mostly spent the time on stage discussing a number of progressive issues, including climate change.

At the end of their discussion, activist Dionna Langford, who was serving as moderator, mentioned Clinton recently saying "nobody likes [Sanders]," eliciting boos from the audience.

Langford sought to quell the booing, saying: "We're not gonna boo, we're not gonna boo. We're classy here."

That was when Tlaib jumped in, laughingly saying: "I'll boo. Boo."

"You all know I can't be quiet," Tlaib added. "The haters will shut up on Monday when we win."

The moment comes as underlying tensions from 2016 appear to be bubbling up in the 2020 election. Sanders supporters have fiercely defended their candidate after a new interview from Clinton criticizing her former opponent.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published last week, Clinton said she stood by past comments of Sanders, saying: "Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done."

She also in the interview refused to confirm whether she would endorse or campaign for Sanders should he win the Democratic nomination this year.

Clinton again hit Sanders on Friday, saying he did not do enough to unify the party behind her White House bid in 2016.

Since launching his campaign, Sanders has continued to poll as a top-tier candidate. Recent polls show him with strong support in both Iowa and New Hampshire in the lead up to the caucuses and primary in the two states.

lol we're 23 trillion dollars in debt, most of it entitlements, and that didn't crash the economy. GND might do it because of the loony ways it restricts private enterprise and outlaws entire industries, but free college/healthcare just means a bigger deficit while politicians continue to pretend everything's fine.

"These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger. Who's the banana republic now?
-Bernie Sanders

Venezuela is every dumb fuck Occupy Democrats idea put into real world practice and destroyed the entire economy in less than 20 years.

It was also a best case for Sanders Socialism because they sit on the largest crude oil reserves in the world. They should all be driving gold plated Ferraris and abusing foreign born maids instead they're eating garbage and getting run over by tanks.

Socialism always ends in eating garbage and getting run over by tanks.

People seem to interpret my previous post as me saying it's good policy - it's not, I just consider the American economy robust enough and our politicians anti-Sanders enough that unless he somehow had 2 houses full of Justice Democrats for a Congress next year President Bernie won't be able to crash the economy single-handed. If pointlessly adding to the deficit was enough to trigger a recession, the boost to the economy after Trump took office wouldn't have happened.

Oh that's adorable. She thinks Bernie's going to win.

Meanwhile, back in reality, there's an ever-growing number of influential, rich and powerful people thinking to themselves "this nigger's getting pretty uppity." Think she's got a spot reserved in the Clinton suicide budget?

Why pay? Once she stops being useful, she'll no longer get a pass for all her whoring and blasphemy and her own will take care of her pretty damn fast.

The US economy couldn't survive the Community Reinvestment Act, AKA giving mortgages to deadbeats with bad credit act.

In 10 years it causes the housing bubble and triggered a recession.

Not to be out done both Obama while in office and Kampaign Kamalla suggested bringing back this dumb fuck idea.

And let's be real, Elizabeth Warren's "plans" aren't any deeper than printing money.

Hey guys why will you spare a few million, but not nearly two trillion???

Some of the shit this woman says is just transcendent. I read statements like this and the sheer inanity of asking why we can't afford to spend trillions when we're already spending millions just sends me to a euphoric place.
