I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Are you allowed to fire someone because you find out they have ADHD, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, yadda? You can fire someone if their mental illness makes them unable to do their job, but why should you be allowed to fire people simply for being mentally ill?

Of course, that's an issue for Congress. The Supreme Court is there to decide how a given law applies, not whether it ought to exist.
That's moving the goalposts a bit, but all right all the same.

This isn't about firing people with mental illnesses (this law covers Sex, Religion, National Origin, and Race). You'll note that the law does not cover sexual orientation or gender identity - but the Supreme Court in essence added that through interpretation rather than having congress update the law - which is hugely problematic from a conservative standpoint (see also - Gay Marriage). It isn't about weather or not these things exist, it's about having the supreme court completely bypass the legislative branch of government by introducing essentially new laws.

If you really can't think of a reason why including "gender identity" is an issue in an employment protection law is a big deal other than "super hating fags" - let me point out a few.

- Gender Identity is not clearly defined, legally. Transgenders come to mind, but what about non-binary, agender, pangender, two-spirit, genderqueer, or some other made up gender? Where, legally, can you draw the line between "acceptable" and "not-acceptable" for your hiring practices? How are you supposed to coach your HR team around this?

- Transgenderism also does not have a legal requirement - meaning that there exists no guidelines on how to actually navigate the larger issue laid out by the law. If you have an employee who transitions - when do they "become" a woman? When they declare the transition, when they have the surgery, when they feel like it starts? Better figure it out, because not doing so puts you in violation of the law.

- Gender Identity also, in essence, removes gendered based protections. Were you looking specifically for a woman to lead a girl scout troop, to be a crisis counselor for women, or any other reason? Tough, now you legally are required to consider transwomen (aka men) for those positions. Does your job offer specific training or resources for women? Not anymore it doesn't, because transwomen cannot be excluded from those resources. Does your job have specific places for women - ex a breastfeeding room or women's bathroom? If you loosely identify as a female in you go.

- "Sex" being interpreted, legally by the Supreme Court of the United States, as malleable and/or a construct for legal purposes - why not race?

It's a terrible interpretation of a law that clearly seeks to incorrectly expand it's reach. It creates more issues than it solves, bypasses the legislative branch, and sets more terrible precedent and that all gets swept under the rug because people interpret coming out against it as "super hating fags".

Theres no real christian (or otherwise) morality system at play for leftists that many republicans subscribe to. Its why republicans cuck out a lot.
This is why church history pre-Reformation needs to be common knowledge.

Some of those old bishops in the Roman Empire weren't above calling for the exile or torture of their opponents, especially when they absolutely believed that they were leading souls straight to Hell with their heresies.

Of course she is.

Why the BBC cares about an American politician being allegedly assaulted is beyond me.

I mean, would Fox News run a front-page story if Zahra Sultana (who's basically Britain's AOC) claimed to have been assaulted?
The BBC mainly reports on racism and sexism nowadays to the exclusion of anything important.

As always, Movieblob chooses the moments where AOC is dealing with what you could argue to be trauma to simp for her in the clumsiest way possible.

If it wouldn't be a magnet for politispergs, I'd argue that she needs a forum simply because of the amount of orbiters she attracts.

Sexual assault could be anything from having those big AOC titties groped to actually being raped. Does she ever specify what exactly happened to her?

It was probably just some homeless dude on the subway staring at her tits while they were falling out of her dress on her way home from a night out a decade ago.

It's probably something as bland as being called SugarTits by a drunk guy she was serving.
Knowing that she was a bartender, it wouldn't surprise me.

That said, I'll apply the same standard to AOC that I apply to other celebrities who trot out rape or sexual assault allegations - I'm sorry you went through that, but I'm not going to join any witch hunts or believe you without reservation until a judge finds in your favour.

I'm supposed to feel sorry for a piece of shit that wants to take my guns away? Yeah go fuck yourself AOC.

So she claims assault, and because of that Cruz and Hawley need to resign and Trump needs to be convicted. There is a logic gap there I don't understand.

She was being called out for doing nothing about wall street, looked stupid in being a bitch to Cruz, so now pull how her yu-gi oh card to retain the upper hand. Maybe one of the 10 RINOs who voted against Trump can walk her to and from votes in solidarity.
