The Square Enix Griefing Thread

@Level99Manchild
DQ4 DS was one-off localised by 8-4. Newer games have some very distinct accents in specific areas.

---

Shloc (a British company) has done localisation for the vast majority of recent DQ main titles and spin-offs for nearly a decade. They've been faithful to the localisation style established early on, even though it isn't faithful to the original JP games.

As a fan of DQ, I can appreciate their consistency over the years with naming returning characters, geographical locations, spells and items; however, I wish they'd have started their work with a faithful localisation because it's jarring to read one thing with the original dub on. E.g. Kamyu/Senya/Roto vs Erik/Serena/Erdrick. Too late to push for change, I guess...

Some info here: https://dragon-quest.org/w/index.ph...top#Current_Square_Enix_localization_policies

Edit: I can't find anything about DQ Tact. I presume it was done in-house. Shloc seem to focus on complete products. Their works include DQ11 and FF16. I'd expect them to lead DQ12's localisation when it's time.

The tranny colors aren't a coincidence, are they.
Subliminal messaging. There's a tiny bit of race mixing in a story, and possibly a race mixed, obese lesbian. Idk how American proms are. Subtle gay gamer shit too.

There's no tranny in the game (yet), but there's a "They" and "Mx." title among 100 other normal titles.

The whole thing is either a mockery of North American culture, or bizarrely thinking this kind of thing is what players are into.

It really sounds like it was designed by someone that thinks Twitter is 100% representative of American culture.

I'm glad it's flopping, hahahaha. I had already forgotten about it. Way to rip off Splatoon a decade late, Square-Enix. 🙄 Looking forward to the announcement of the server closure by the end of the year.

The question is this, will there another shitty triple-A company to purchase Squeenix?

It came for free with PS+, couldn't get past 10 mins. I cant stand modern online culture

I could definitely see a Nintendo buyout. Nintendo would probably whip them into shape and get them to stop fucking around with NFTs and live service bullshit.
That'd be awesome, not only fixing SE but getting access to possibilites like SMRPG2.

gives me more a cotton candy aesthetic personally
I was probably being overly cynical, but apparently there was a bit of tranny shit, so maybe not.

I could only imagine Sony buying them. I figure the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest brands are the only things they have that are worth money.

Yeah but the main character's name is "Soa" so I figure it's supposed to all be, like, soap, and if I eat soap like cotton candy I will die.

Sakaguchi was the life blood of this company. Sure, Spirits Within bombed, but it was this type of risk taking that made Square a household name of gaming in the mid-late 90s.
ironically he was just too early. now we have vtubers being a digital singer/actor/whatever and making money hand over fist.

I don't know how much of Kingdom Hearts they own, but that's probably still pretty profitable too.

I think that movie is fine anyway, it just certainly wasn't Final Fantasy. There was a guy named Cid, that's literally the extent of it. I think if they had made it slightly more traditional then it could've been remembered better.

I honestly can't see it. Sony actually used to own stock in Square Enix, but sold all of it, because both companies were doing so poorly financially, it wasn't helping either of them. Nintendo actually already owns stock in Square Enix.
That's pretty interesting. I do recall that Nintendo handles publishing for them at times, maybe they're closer than I thought.

Nintendo actually owns stock in most of the Japanese video game industry; Bandai Namco, Kadokawa, Koei Tecmo, Square Enix, and Konami. You can see this on page 49 of their Annual Report to their shareholders. The only major companies they don't own stock in are, ironically, Capcom and Sega Sammy.

My comment had more to do with it failing at the box office and almost bankrupting Squaresoft before Sony invested into 50% of their stock to save them at the last second.

I don't think this will be it chief. Sure, during the early-2000s we could've seen that, but no even after Sony managed to merge the two companies together, they still made a lot of shady, questionable decisions.

I think Nintendo would've been a better candidate to purchase Squeenix as they owned a minority stake of it.

I should make a clickbait video titled "Remember when Nintendo OWNED this BLACK PERSON?!?!?!" and it's a picture of Ken Griffey Jr. in the thumbnail, because they owned the Seattle Mariners at one point
