The Square Enix Griefing Thread

I'm saying if another game ever gets made that'll happen

SE isn't the progenitor, the whole western video game industry is sick with it
It's 50/50. But then again, Embracer is already massacring Tomb Raider with Amazon doing its own "shared universe" bullshit and Netflix still working on the anime, which might as well be as good as dead. Plus, Embracer already has Saints Row 2022 and that was a pile of shit.

Its hard to blame anything on Embracer as a whole, because Embracer itself is just a holding company, with multiple publishers under it that essentially work independently of each other. So its hard to know who to blame other than the studio itself or that particular publisher when a game flops.

They've also promised to be more selective and "force every game to justify its existence" after it and some other release flopped this year.

this. I mentioned it over in the saints row thread I think, volition was run under deep silver, and everybody knows how retarded they are. the other subsidiaries have a much more sensible approach and actually dabble in AA stuff, even doing games people have been waiting for ages (another aquanox, even if the writing was meh apparently, and a continuation of fucking BATTLE CHASERS of all things).

apparently the squeenix assets are held under their own subsidiary for now, but depending if and where legacy of kain ends up it's not all doom & gloom @X Prime

tomb raider is already a fucked up IP thanks to the reboot and shadow especially, extracting some money out of that trashheap isn't the most illogical move before letting it rest a few years and then selling it off or rebooting it (again).

No shit, Sherlock. I already implied that to @A-Stump about how the franchise is dead.

it's not if it can still generate money, which was my point. congrats for missing it I guess...
Every franchise is dead. It's companies who will keep milking til they run dry.

Square Enix Shares New Trailer for NFT Project Symbiogenesis; Has 10,000 NFT Characters

Developer and publisher Square Enix has released a brand-new teaser trailer for their upcoming NFT project, Symbiogenesis.

The project was teased back in November of last year. While the trailer is just a 45-second sneak peek showing a small portion of the world, the video description states that the official website for the project will be officially released on March 17, with a “Scheduled Free Mint campaign launch” to be released at that same time, also according to the teaser website’s roadmap.

Furthermore, the description states that Symbiogenesis is narrative-unlocked NFT entertainment, with 10,000 NFT characters sporting unique designs, with various races and professions, and bust-up pictures that can be used as profile pictures, which will be released in six chapters in total.

Much to our chagrin, it seems that even after the president of Square Enix’s recent resignation, they still seem determined to continue this project.

You can watch the full cinematic trailer for Symbiogenesis here:

Well, that'll fail before the end of the year.

Talk about being late to a fad, holy fuck.

The popularity of NFTs collapsed like a month after introduction, and even then most of that 'popularity' was people making fun of it.
The problem with nfts is that I've never seen them even get to the point where they are actually used. Nobody really has had the chance of trying it because nfts Got ran out of the saloon before it could buy a drink.

Now this game? Even without nfts Needs to have a big ass selling point and interesting stuff to make it worth a dam. A vid of trees in the woods is not going to make me care. If they have a shit ton of crossover characters...maybe.

No wonder they fired their CEO. This is one of the worst ideas I've ever seen. It's the kind of thing you come up with whole smoking crack.

Time to start dooming? I know I don't trust modern SE when it comes to new battle systems. I mean just look at the last few SP FF games!

Me smoking crack 20 years ago: "What if instead of paying for the game, you paid for digital gems in the game? And you use those gems to buy uhhh fucking like super gems. And you use those to purchase coins that you can use to spin a slot machine for a chance to win a JPEG of a 14-year-old anime girl."

20 yrs ago you would have been told that shitty korean games already did that. NFts are such a piece of shit idea that they are not really needed even for this

I know Sony is a lost case, but I wish Microsoft would ban NFT games on their storefront. It would be a fucking based move.

Just prohibit this game from your system. Do the right thing.
Have you seen how shit Microsofts luck has been lately? They are gonna be way less principled then Sony when they need the cash.
