The Suicide Squad - unnecessary white male director gets second chance

I have a couple of issues with this movie so far.

1) Bloodsport has the exact same storyline as Deadshot in the first movie in that he wants to be able to return to his daughter as they changed the character that Idris Elba was playing at the last minute so that Will Smith has the option to return.
2) Task Force X are supposed to be doing black ops missions for the U.S. Government, not fighting Justice League level threats like Starro the Conqueror.

The movie could turn out decent, I liked GOTG... but how sad is it that this movie, yet once more, can at best aspire to be a derivative DC version of a Marvel hit?
I loved Deadpool and its comedy, but saying the word "dick" over and over again in what I assume was the writer's idea of "Tarrantino-ing" is just unfiltered raw sewage.

Oh yeah, that joke in the trailer did nothing for me.

Hopefully it was just added in to blatantly advertise that it's "R-rated," and that it's not one of the better jokes of the movie ...

If it is, then y i k e s.

The movie could still be pretty good, as I said, I liked GOTG, so there is some potential, but the trailer didn't sell me on this movie yet.
If this trailer represents the movie, I am not looking forward to it, but maybe it misrepresents the final product and it is actually going to be decent.

Yeah, getting way too many GotG vibes and after the second Guardians movie, I'm not touching this (the movie gave me all the feels). Also kind of sad that WB is trying to use actors who were in MCU movies (just because Heimdall is dead doesn't mean you need Idris Elba).
To be perfectly fair to WB, there have been so many goddamn many actors in bit parts in Marvel movies that you're going to get some crossover at some point.

Yeah, but if you can put Starro in a movie, why not put Starro in a movie?

That said, the "freakin' kaiju" line was pretty weak. The keyboard jockey guy's first react, when King Shark eats that dude, got me thinking that what would be really funny is if keyboard jockey never had any actual lines, just increasingly elaborate and violent spit-takes.

Yeah, there's also been crossover with movies based on Marvel properties as both Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan played The Human Torch in Fantastic Four movies produced by Fox before appearing in the MCU.

Why hasn't the guy that played the Human Torch in the Roger Corman Fantastic Four appeared in the MCU yet?

Why is Harley wearing a long dress
Good luck getting that shit caught on something

Well Deadshot was meant to be in the movie but Will Smith couldn't do it due to filming of King Richard which seems like his latest try to get a best actor Oscar, so the first plan was to recast him with Idris Elba however James Gunn and WB changed their mind in case Will Smith ever came back for another movie, so he picked a pretty unknown Superman villain but one similar to Deadshot in terms of skills called Robert DuBois aka Bloodshot, also what funny is this not a case of race changing a character like Deadshot was, as Robert DuBois the first version of Bloodshot was black. However the fact they cast a daughter for Bloodshot, I expect a lot of similarities between the characters in terms of story.

Also seems like the movie is going to start off with them doing black ops missions in some 3rd world country before it turns out Starro is the big bad going off the trailer but thats just the feeling i get from the trailer and the fact one of the actors is listen as Silvio Luna the dictator of Corto Maltese, however that could also be a intro thing which just sets up the team before the main plot.

For fuck's sake. Exact same thing pissed me off last time they're doing it again. The most terrifying person in the Suicide Squad is Amanda Waller. Just like with Deadshot they're letting Bloodsport get away with far too much when it comes to her. Waller does not get threatened by her tools, she threatens and at times follows through. She does not give "oh wah wah the ends justifies the means" speeches.

And I remain hugely indifferent to Harley Quinn, all the more so with Margot Robbie involved.

Yeah, this looks better than the other film; but still not great. They really do miss the mark on what Waller is all about.

Waller's appearances mostly make me sad. Time and time again DC has series both animated and live as well as films with her in but they keep missing the mark. Her best showing probably remains the BTAS /JLU period

Hell the animated Suicide Squad reboot (yes, they did a reboot of their animated Squad movie too. This has happened once already) they even went with Skinny Waller to keep in line with the comics.

Despite the fact that it is largely irrelevant what Waller looks like all of the bad versions of her seem to fail to understand the simplest thing about her. Waller is terrifying. She's given the job of bringing to heel super powered criminals and she does so well enough that she outlives vast numbers of them. A bog standard human stares down people that takes shots at Superman and informs them that they are now her tools to wield as she sees fit. While she is able and willing to use the carrot as well as the stick ultimately Waller must terrify those villains to ensure the minimal compliance needed for these missions and she does. Not to say that fear is all consuming but very few Squad members think they can get away with fucking with her. In contrast in both of these films the leads mouth off or threaten her and rather than having them immediately incapacitated within seconds of that shit they get away with it.

They make Waller all about the velvet glove when her preferred tool is the iron fist.

Waller was great in the Telltale games. To outsmart her you had to actually play smart, not just select a couple dialogue options, and intimidating her into backing the fuck off was the culmination of an entire series' actions.

Harley is shit, and I hate how much focus she's getting. John Cena looks fun but I can't get over how much of a spineless twat he turned out to be.

Also, putting Superman in the ICU with a kryptonite bullet doesn't seem that impressive. Getting shot is likely to put anyone in the hospital!

Otherwise, eh. I dunno. Want to enjoy this but something is nagging at me that it's trying too hard.

don't ask questions
just consume product
How bout, fuck off and i ask questions and don't consume product. Do those idiots behind this shit ever think of the possibility? That there are people who consider that option?

anyway this looks like it might be fine for a few laughs at how meh it is once the consoomer hype dies down (which it probably will very quickly) also i love how unintentionally based they are having both bloodshot and his daughter being criminals, though if they really wanted to be redpilled Bloodshot shouldn't have cared about his daughter at all.
