People who say there's no hope just come across kinda fucking dull and unimaginative to me. You just have to be kinda dumb to think human beings are static creatures. Chris has changed dramatically due to Idea Guy's tampering, he can obviously change.

Chris can change but right now he's a lot like his dogs where years of not correcting bad behavior has made them irritating nightmares. Chris going to a group space is like taking one of his dogs to the dog park and acting surprised it's not doing so great. He needs routine irl socialization and in a smaller and more personal setting so it's him actually talking to friends instead of sitting there waiting to hear a word he recognizes so he can make TV references. Nobody really seems interested in doing that though and instead people like to be friendly with him for the novelty of interacting with Chris Chan, many of them enabling his bad behavior even more.

She's a pastoral counselor, not a trained psychologist. She's supposed to be counseling kids as they get ready for their confirmation, young couples as they prepare to get married, married couples who are having relationship problems, someone having problems with his/her faith, and shit like that. Dealing with Chris requires someone with a background in special ed, abnormal psychology, or maybe social work. It's a much bigger challenge than she is prepared/capable of handling.

The place where she went wrong was in agreeing to take on the responsibility of working with Chris when she fully knew that she was completely unqualified to do so.

She probably does not give a damn anymore either, which is the destiny of Chris' electron cloud. The truth is, no one in Chris' circle is equipped to deal with him. We may think we're doing the right thing, but it's like a man who keeps trying to put a band-aid over holes in a dam.

A lot of religious nuts tend to do what Chris did with Null, where they inject their religious reasoning into a discussion, and on merit of the fact the other person doesn't try to refute it, they count it as winning. Someone smarter than me probably has a term on hand for this, but it's just another thing that Chris does to dig himself deeper. By Null circumventing addressing it (I don't blame him), it reaffirms Chris's beliefs, no matter what other point he could make.

I'm not terribly hopeful based on recent events, but I'm not being defeatist. I just think really helping Chris would involve someone like Rocky running interference locally and helping to set up what is going to become of Chris after Barb dies. I'm not sure that any more simple and immediate help will do much good in the long run. Chris is unmoored and drifting off to sea and he's incapable of realizing that he may be heading for big trouble. He needs a lifestyle tugboat. I don't know if that's possible long distance.

Doesn't Chris have some kind of shrink? Shouldn't they be informed of what's going on in Chris' life? From what I could see the shrink didn't even know that Chris was being swindled, which means that Chris is telling the shrink little or nothing.

Just by giving the shrink info you'll be helping them in treating Chris.

It seems to me like some kind of care plan is being formed here. IMO a successful one should have Chris getting more care as one of the main goals. The only person we know who is in the position of being able to do that is the shrink.

And about care plans. There's a danger in having 2 different care plans in play, especially when people don't know the other care plan.
