I would assume anyone who knows even the smallest thing about politics already knew Perez was picked via backroom deals. I'm pretty sure every DNC/RNC chairman in the history of this country has been the result of backroom deals.

The way I understand it, almost all of the voters who cast a ballot for candidates other than Ellison and Perez in the first round (~30) switched their votes to Ellison in the second round, so he would have won had the Obama/Perez people not cut deals for the defection of the first round Ellison voters.
