I wish I could be a doctor because it seems pretty easy. Just be like yeah "lol how can a knee kill a nigga? You for real? He had that much fent in him? Shittttt- Pay me now 80k for my expert review or whatever." and sadly it would be more legitimate than a bunch of experts I have seen at this trial so far.

Hell, in fact, I would just be like "Here is my master thesis on why knees are not that dangerous." and legit play blood fist over and over for the Jury.

There is a pipeline from being a failed doctor to being a for-pay witness on hold for various law firms. Of course a successful doctor can start being a paid witness ethically if they simply want to work fewer hours in the latter portions of their career. Its easier and cheaper to hire a person who is full of shit, but they might make your case look like shit. You get what you pay for generally, though not everyone has a good defense attorney or can afford their own expert. The most infuriating example of the problems with this involve cases of "shaken baby syndrome". A whole book was written about the convictions overturned for shaken baby syndrome because the cases seemed to happen disproportionately where there were expert witnesses that gave that kind of testimony out easily (nebraska and utah).

wrt the chauvin case- The pulmonologist's testimony is going to be that it was breathing related, and a cardiologist would probably say heart disease, etc. To a man with a hammer everything looks like a nail. If a surgeon tells you that you need surgery and it isn't an emergency, it is wise to get a 2nd opinion for the exact same reason.

medical examiners are specially trained in autopsy as well as chain of command issues, regular (non-forensic) pathologists spend most of their working hours doing oversight on medical laboratory testing to make sure that the other doctors in the system are getting accurate results.

Note: the Micronite filter was literally made out of asbestos. Not just any asbestos, but the absolutely most toxic and carcinogenic kind, blue asbestos.
