I'm starting to think it has less to do with the subject of the thread itself, and more a general trend I've noticed among threads on divisive topics. The purpose of this site is to laugh at retards being funny, full stop. You can laugh at any side of any argument you want as long as they're being retarded, there are no sacred cows here (literally). There are quite a few refugees from other sites here, though, especially in recent years, that are used to mockery over on the sites they're from (that they should really go back to) working as follows: the site has a generally accepted viewpoint on [x] issue, so anyone on their side is automatically seen as right and anyone on the other side is automatically wrong and therefore retarded, so someone simply disagreeing with them is cause for full-on mockery and laughter even if they make a valid point.
Over here, we laugh at cows because they're funny, but more and more newfags (not that I have much business calling others newfags, I'm not exactly a longtime user here myself) are following their old retarded sites' retarded rule of "if they disagree with us they're retarded and you should laugh", so they're shitting up threads meant to laugh at retards that belong to [x] group with random screencaps anyone who sneezes in the general direction of [x], because to them, someone disagreeing with them has to be a retard because they're always right about everything.
A good example of this would be the Leftist Memes thread (originally made to mock bad leftist memes), which has devolved to everything from posting meta-memes made to mock leftists instead of shitty memes made by leftists, to random leftist political messages that aren't actually memes but somehow wind up in the thread anyways. For fuck's sake, I regularly see people post satire memes clearly made by /pol/, because apparently Joe Biden being drawn as a nazi who's gassing a large-nosed Donald Trump isn't enough to clue them in that the image they're posting wasn't actually made by a democrat.
tl;dr: this site is for laughing at retards, not just anyone who happens to disagree with you.
