The unjustified "hate" over Nintendo's 2DS.

I haven't been in the video game scene in a long while, 2ds? they're going back to 8 bit?

It's a version of Nintendo's 3ds handheld console (a two screen clamshell design with glasses free 3d capabilities) that doesn't fold and doesn't have the 3d effect.
It's essentially an easier to manufacture budget version.

I guess I'm cheap enough so the 2DS finally doesn't seem overpriced for a handheld. Planning to get one!

Might consider to get one, but the 3DS seems to be a better option.

Or perhaps I should go back to PC gaming.

If I can find a few Shin Megami Tensei games, I'll consider picking up a 2DS.

I really want to get Pokemon X but I don't have the money for a 3ds so I might consider getting a 2ds.

Y is going to be better.

Well the reason I thought it was getting bad press is because its so fucking ugly.

I mean it just looks... why? Why couldn't they have kept the flip design? It looks uncomfortable and weird and the button placement looks wrong.

As for it just being a cheap 3DS - I have no complaints with that idea. If it was true. However, I can get a 3DS brand new-VGC for anywhere from £70-£120. According to the Telegraph the RRP for a 2DS is $109. From my quick eBaying skills, it seems 2DSes are going for £125, which is more expensive than the 3DS. I know that used consoles go for less, but about 2 months ago there was a seller on eBay selling brand new 3DSes for £70. Cant seem to find the listing today though.

If this had come out alongside the 3DS then yeah, it'd make sense. But as consoles age they go down in price. To me it seems like a cynical ploy to sell more (in the vein of the DSXL, DSIXL, 3DS XL and all the other million handheld variations). Console becomes old, you revive interest in it by releasing a vatiation. Except this time they tried to come up with some bullshit "its cheaper" marketing.

DS hinges are notorious for breaking easily.

Particularly when sat on by an overweight tomgirl.

Never in my life have I ever met someone who broke a DS's hinge. I'd imagine kids would do it all the time though.
