Easiest way to unmake them and make them normal again is forcing them to get off Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr and forcing them to go out into the real world where reality is.

It might be a kind of anxiety but I'm of the mind that it's a largely artificial form of anxiety. The insidious thing about political fixations in general is that the supposed importance of being politically active or at least politically conscious causes most people to forget that politics are ultimately a kind of bread and circus unto themselves and putting so much effort into being "woke" or "redpilled" when the average person has little to no real influence over national or geopolitics can very easily ruin one's mental health and life in more direct ways. It's a lot like being in a cult in that they're convinced these matters are more personally and directly significant to them than anything in their day to day lives.I'm still convinced its linked to anxiety of some kind. Any SJ-leaning person presents almost identical behavior to hardcore /pol/tards I know: They're polite and reasonable to talk with, up until you touch on whatever topic makes them flip their shit. I dunno if people just need the right meds or something, but generally I've only seen people calm down politically when their lives become easier. Usually if things don't improve their political beliefs just shift from one side of the pen to the other. Eventually if they go far enough off the deep end you get a hobo waving a knife around on the street.
On the flipside, any time I've seen someone become more extreme politically, usually its accompanying some period of stress or misfortune in their lives. In some cases they might just be looking for something to blame, but in general as life gets harder people's minds start to melt into paranoia and savagrey. This is not a new observation either.
Good news is that new arrivals to college are no longer having any of itI think a lot of it will depend on environmental factors, education and personal experience. The long term SJW's tend to be poorly educated and take degrees where the only job you'll ever be able to get is teaching. Most will end up teaching the next generation of leftie students at colleges. I was very left-wing as a college student and took part in various protests for LGBT rights, anti racism and so on but I think it was being part of this crowd that ultimately led to me changing many of my far-left views. I found myself banging my head against the wall so many times because I wanted to talk about real issues and it was just a popularity contest, the popular crowd steered the ship and it always went the direction of the popular buzzwords.
The final straw was probably when I bought up an idea for better disabled support at the college when others wanted to focus on more rights for women of colour, after making my case I was told in a very condescending way that "it's not a competition" and my idea was shot down to get women of colour free laptops instead. I think also the older I got, the more areas of LGBT culture I found didn't fit with my views and I changed to a more centerist view politically and became more conservative about LGBT relationships. My changing views didn't sit well with old friends and I didn't really want to be part of a crowd run by privileged rich minority kids and white people wanting to play "white saviour" for immigrants.
Zoomers will come up with an even dumber fad, I fear.I say give it time. In ten years, SJW's and alt-right are yesterdays news and something else has become trendy in their place, as young people forever seek something to belong to.
That said there are fewer types of people I personally hate more than SJW's. They're hypocrites and liars, often no different or worse than the so called people that they are "fighting against," completely disconnected from reality, often willing to use any means necessary to discredit people in the names of their causes, and are often the most ignorant, oafish and boorish people I have ever met. They deserve any violence they reap upon themselves.
It was a sober wakeup call and was enough to throw a left-leaning person like me in the complete opposite direction
That means you now believe in the opposite of what you did before? Like no rights for gay people etc?
We need to force SJWs and alt-righters to get married and see who converts whom
