I have no doubt the owner of archive.md is based. The trouble is that almost every other link in the chain is pozzed to some degree.

We've already seen this with the Farms: the server is perfectly fine, and runs great when one is lucky enough to be on a decent Tor circuit. It's just the infrastructure linking the server to the end user that's full of cancer.

Be that as it may, even if archive.md is banished to Tor along with the Farms, an onion archive is better than no archive at all.

Internet Archive hasn't been as useful it was before about 2012 or so due to so many java heavy websites - try to use it for It also always sucked for archiving most forums. And while archive.is is pretty nice (except for the stupid feud he had with Brave browser for a couple months), it isn't automatic, and not as comprehensive as Internet Archive.

As you'd be aware if you looked back to the stories about that, those pages were marked 'removed due to robots.txt'.

Should Wayback ignore robots.txt? Yes. Did Reid get special treatment? No.

You're right. It's been years and I misremembered what happened. Her lawyers did ask them to remove it under the claim the posts were "hacked" but it only got taken down after the robots.txt inclusion.

I guess there was nothing they did wrong beyond their overall policy. Seems kind of insane to let someone add robots.txt years after publication and have those archives vanish. Joy Reid still won in the end.

The way back machine will delete archives if all you do is fuck with the current robots.txt.

However, they keep them in their secret offline archives.

As shitty as not having an outward archive I hoped they had done that just from seeing them sperg about archives. When I heard them say “we don’t know what will be important in the future so we archive everything” I was pretty happy with that. this info is pretty early in the New Zealand happening thread, but where archive.org altered the archive of 8chan to remove post made by legit feds. Also, afaik archive.org is the only archive of websites recognized in us court. Hope I’m wrong about that, but something I recall seeing.

About 6 months ago I was seriously considering giving IA some money because they provide a valuable service with the preservation of stuff like vintage electronics books and computer documentation, along with vintage magazines. Since learning that one of IA's big wigs is related to Taylor Lorenz and that the Wayback Machine was purged due to Keffals' personal army screeching at IA, I no longer have the desire to give them any financial support.
